People of Mumbai flock in huge numbers in Lalbaug wholesale spice market during that time as we get good prices as compared to other places around the city.

You have been given correct advice to ho uo Lalbaug. Every 5 years i go home to mumbai anc bring my sgare of spice, even after 5 years it tastes the same. Keep in glass bottle and store in pantry not fridge. If u have a pantry in basement u coulc jeeo there. Buy goda masala, kanda lasoon masala. Go to khamkar masala shop. U can customize to your taste and he can educate you too. Authentic pounding.

You missed famous malvani seafood restaurant Dutta Boarding, 2 minutes walk from lalbaug market and Maharashtrian snacks centre Ladu Samrat. loved it !! you should have said 2-3 words in marathi instead of hindi. since they were all marathi, they would have probably loved it even more if you would have said khoop chaan instead of bahot badhiya. haha. btw my native village is the birthplace of alphonso mangoes and i honestly feel that maaza is one of the most overrated mango drink in india. you should try aamras at any local vendor and ask them for no sugar.
@@chefKeithSarasin I have tried more than 10-12 different types of mangoes, including the Filipino Carabao mangoes which were definitely very sweet but flavor wise Alphonso Mangoes from Devgad are probably the best. Maybe I am biased but I literally don't think the Haapus as we call them has any match. 🤣 You only find them in the summer time though, we usually freeze the pulp for using it over the year. The 100% authentic pulp can only be found in konkani households. You can't find it in restaurants, at least I havent. But whatever you find at local restaurants is still much much better than maaza.
You'd be surprised what spices you get here in the USA especially New Jersey. There is an isle just of Acchaars -- pickles in the Indian grocery store here. In Bombay -- try seafood -- esp Pompfret, Rawas - Indian salmon, prawns and last but not least Bombay Duck -- it's a fish. With the seafood -- gulp down a glass of Sol Kadhi. In fish try both -- fish fried in semolina -- Rawa and fish curry -- coconut based. Go for the traditional rice -- which is parboiled. They might try to offer Basmati. Refuse.
Visit Kerela for spices and Old Delhi too. Not sure if Mumbai is the spice capital or for that matter the food capital. Any Indian food kickoff needs to start from Delhi!
There are some wonderful home made brand names for aachar you will find in most super markets and stores also such as Mother's Recipe, Bedekar pickles, etc ....they come in bottles as well as tetra packs... enjoy!!🫶
