Foreigner Comparing Grocery Prices in INDIA vs UK 🇮🇳

  • In todays video, I went to Dmart and while shopping I was Comparing Grocery Prices in INDIA vs ENGLAND
My final view (which I did not mention in the video) is that...
In England I would buy less products for the money I spent here, however...
In England avarage's salary is much higher than in India and it is difficult to give a final verdict as one would have to compare everything, not just grocery shopping, such as the cost of accommodation and the cost of energy bills etc and how much a person gets left with a residue income to be able to truly compare these measures.
And also it is very natural for me as a foreigner who has British pounds to spend Not to compare and convert prices of everything
Finally, I was using the estimated conversion rate of 100 INR to GBP which fluctuates daily.

By that comparison, our incomes are much more, because we can buy much more. Salary seedhe seedhe compare nahin hoti. Lakeer ke fakir.

I spent 5 years in Sweden before returning back to India and during my stay over there I felt that the vegetables in the supermarket were very expensive and had no taste. For an instance the tomatoes lacked the sour taste. Then lot of packaged or frozen vegetables. Whatever we took for granted here in India like vegetables and fruits like mangoes etc. were expensive. The only thing that I really enjoyed in Europe was the fresh bakery items.

Most European countries import Biologically modified food items from US companies like the Monsanto.
The process results in food items being almost tasteless, with very less nutrition per ounce and in some cases.. even cancerous (Don't ask me if it is planned or not, the company swears that it is not planned and just happens sometimes "magically", and if you think of suing them legally, especially in the US, they have an army of lawyers who will counter sue you for defamation until you are bankrupt, anything more than this could be considered conspiracy theory, but it is up to you to research more).
The few countries in Europe who are holding back against these massive corrupt companies are probably Spain, Italy or France.. since they have had a long traditional cuisine rich history of their own. If you can, try tasting fruits and food produce from these countries and then compare them to the food from the US or UK.

    1. Maida is all purpose flour for baking cakes.
    2. Tapioca balls are ones u see in boba tea. It's also used when people are fasting in India. It's called sabudhana khichdi.
U soak a cup of it in double times water for 6 hrs. Drain water. Add a teaspoon salt and sugar each. Add crushed coarsely ground peanuts and keep aside.
Heat oil in pan, add cumin seeds, hing (asafoetida), curry leaves, chillies, and boiled cut cub potatoes. Once it's cooked add these tapioca balls mixture and cook till tapioca ball turn transparent. Sprinke chpped corriyander leaves and juice of lemon and mix. It will taste salty, sweet, tangy, chewy, potato and everything at same time.
    3. Some even make tapioca balls kheer. Aka soak in water then all to boiled milk, sugar, cardamon pods, fried nuts and mix. Kheer dessert is ready.
    4. Some even make sabudhana aka tapioca vada which is those soaked balls added with spices and leaves, salt deep fried and eaten with chutney

Been living in India for 5 years, also originally from the UK (married to an Indian woman) and in general, junk food is cheaper in India, vegetables and spices tend to be cheaper in India, but a lot of the basic food stuff can actually be more expensive in India, different wage brackets also so even the stuff that are cheaper it actually works out that we gwt things far cheaper in the UK, for example average wage is considered £300 a month in India, compare that to our average wage in the UK definitely 4 or 5x the average wage in yhe UK most things arent 4 or 5x cheaper in India, but guess what is...? Soda, crisps etc... And yeah things like cabs, buses and trains are cheap here in India, why? Because the employees dont get a fair wage, the watchman of the apartment I live in actually told us his monthly pay is 10,000rs (£100), mine and my wifes mortgage on our apartment is £400 a month and its in a relatively cheap area of Mumbai, there's no chance half these people can afford a mortgage.

Its not right to call it cheap. The price of products in countries are dependent on the cost of living index.
For those like you in US , UK or Germany etc, your hourly wage is fixed like around 10$ per hour.
While in India it's less than 2 dollars per hour.
So cost of production is lesser and hence it's the right price for Indian markets.

u have to take in purchasing power parity of rupees to $ ,its hovers around indian rupees25 to 1 USD.
so a 10 USD priced shampoo bottle in the us would feel to an average indian consumer about Rs 250
(by the reductive method-exchange rate which is 82 rs to USD ,it would be 250/82 =3.04$ and 10 *82=Rs 820) and vice versa.
by all these, I am trying to say that its not "cheap" for Indian consumers.
exchange is about 82 rs to 1 USD ,but that does not say anything about the real situation,
also nations in the 3rd world like India has to comply with these steeper rates bc of markets designed during colonialism and current day imperialism don the imperial peripheral nations(uneven trade between the imperial core and peripheral imperial nations through economic and sometimes direct military coercion as the imperial core nations had a headstart from colonialism and settler colonialism and chattle slavery) USA has a stronghold over global currency and trade relation by the help of the biggest leverage which is their gigantic genocidal imperial military industrial complex.
    for an extra context -
1 British pound sterling to IND rupees -Rs 102
    1 British pound sterling to usd - 1.25 $

. India is top producer of all agricultural and dairy products. Almost 1st, 2nd, 3rd in all foods so prices are low. Even if India has higher standard of living prices won't match UK coz we are producers of goods. And u are comparing a nation that colonised India for 200 yrs and made poor from rich to India which was poor when it got independence and now growing?

Well I think it really doesn’t matter !😅
Coz , the gdp per capita in india is merely 2500 $, whereas , in the UK , it is 47000$ 😅
So , on a short note , we earn less but we also spend less , whereas in the UK , people earn more but also spend more ! So it kinda neutralises the situation !😅

I guess it is a difficult to answer if you take into consideration factors such as salary, cost of living etc. But fruit, veg and sweets are cheaper in India, whereas imported goods are on the similar level if not even pricier (in England you can take advantage of seasonal discounts and bulk offers which would save you some money)
