What’s with mediocre movies always trying to push everything interesting to a sequel that might never happen. And just jangling the keys to bait my interest? It’s what the MCU basically does now and Power Rangers did too. And I roll my eyes every time someone wants a sequel to that crap. Or anything like it.
They all forget the reason why people loved the MCU. The filmmakers early on actually shown what people wanted. And they were self contained and could be enjoyed on their own.
This is why I dropped most of these franchises. I don’t like being baited and have my time wasted.

@@edmann1820 Just because it takes someone 40+ hours to read it, doesn't mean there is that much content to make a show the same length. Some authors like to spend pages and pages with lavish descriptions of things that takes ages to read and when its in a visual medium takes 5 seconds to show you everything relevant and we almost always lose any internal monologue for characters too, so it cuts down the run time and plus the original mini series was about the same length

I was stationed in Japan in the 70s when Clavell's novel came out, and really got into the real vs. not-real aspects. The book is fiction of course, but based on real history. There is a statue of "Blackthorn" in Yokosuka, who was a real guy. I even went down to Osaka castle where the "NIghtingale" floors still work as a security device, as mentioned in the novel. I was also an "Anjin" being a navy pilot there on the Midway aircraft carrier. I'm really enjoying this latest series, and Ozzy's review is hilarious! Keep it up mate! Thanks, Burkee

@@motttta If you're into this style of show then definitely watch it. It's genuinely really interesting. Has a lot of real Japanese history in it. Some things have been embellished and changed and of course names have been changed as well (Tokagawa Ieyasu to Toranaga and such) so names are quite hard to remember but the main cast is easy enough to remember, especially with the subtitles on since Japan uses name a lot instead of just saying "sir" or "ma'am" or "My Lord/Lady" and stuff!
A lot does happen in each episode though, many moving parts but it's super well shot and the acting is genuinely very good. Everyone is believable in their roles and the conversations are always engaging because you genuinely don't know how it's going to turn out in the end. They've already thrown a few curve balls at you from episode 1 (no spoilers of course) so I say if you like shows that don't treat you like dumb idiot moron and like the drama and action and political intrigue, it's a definite recommendation from me, a random on the internet!

There's no break or editing to convey that even though what you're hearing is English what they're speaking is Portuguese. The only indication is that he's first speaking to his crew, who speak English, and then to a Portuguese guy, who speaks Portuguese, so because we're not stupid we can work it out, but it's handled clumsily.

I saw the original tv show when i was a kid and then read the book. When I was older, i re-read the book and rewatched the old tv show. This remake is like a kid's dream come through in 4k and new actors that play their roles splendidly. 10/10. The worst part of the story is watching Mariko die. Deep inside you're hoping she and John will live happily ever after but it's never meant to be. That's not the story. Anyways, thank you for the review!

The book is highly readable. I recommend it only be careful, you'll want to read Clavell's other novels about China after you finish "Shogun." The miniseries seems to be following the book, though there are some things in it that I don't remember from the novel. I'm not going to give away the ending, but if it continues to follow the book closely it will stay interesting right to the closing credits.
