    I'm so looking forward to seeing that first morning when you get up (hopefully to a brilliant sunrise) and pull your anchor up after your first night at sea. It's getting closer guys. Take care and happy travels.

    Now you are in my backyard, Palm Beach County, been to the boat show many, many times. Nice place to work & raise my family. We did the opposite, retired, left Florida and moved north. Some of the kids and grandkids even followed us up north. We were raised in snow country but not them. Having to shovel snow to get to work is a real eye opener for them!

    Thanks for the tour!! Love that floating ipad/iphone thing. Great idea with having your own way to fill the air tanks for scuba!

    I had to comment on Sea Bags - I was just at the Surf Expo last month as a future exhibitor (I sell Turkish towels) and came across their booth, which was BEAUTIFUL. As a new business, it was great to see their setup here, 5 years ago in comparison to where they are now. It's difficult to start a business and struggle while seeing successful ones all around you - this was a good gut check for me. And yeah, I've reached the end of your videos so I'm starting from your boat shopping days because I truly enjoy following along your adventures.

    I was curious about that 110' luxury yacht TRISTAN, so I looked it up. First, incredibly, Tristan was built in 1993! Not bad for a nearly quarter century old boat! Secondly Tristan is a bargain at only 1.95 million! Tristan was also built to accommodate up to 8 guests and 6 crew in six cabins, and she has a 12 knot top speed and can cruise 10 knots comfortably on her engine.

    When I was sailing, I spent more time (and money) maintaining & repairing the watermaker than it would have taken to even carry bottled water (when necessary) to fill the tanks. You can carry extra water for longer passages in jugs if you need it. The watermaker was one of the worst investments I made. Even with a watermaker on board, I still ended up carrying jugs of fresh water when the cranky thing wasn't in the mood to cooperate. This was despite the fact that I understood the mechanics and knew how to maintain & repair it. Unless you really enjoy troubleshooting and tinkering with mechanical systems and don't care about how much labor it will require to keep it running, I wouldn't recommend watermaker. (Unless you are planning on getting a boat over 50 tons and expect to need over 100 gallons a day, forget about watermakers)

      enjoy them while you can , the last video will be the day they set sail, never to be heard from again. when your land yacht has trouble, its a walk to the next town, when your sea yacht has trouble, its, how long can you tread water. the people WHO have sea experience and have watched these videos KNOW its not going to end well, trolls their not.

    • @wetolow1444
      @wetolow1444 8 лет назад

      Aaa yes, And a sad SHORT life it will probably be, Its one thing to be negative, Yet another to use common sense and due diligence. Nether these folks have, When you read the other comments, You can tell the one's that truly understand the unforgiving nature of life at sea and the ones who have neary a clue. Seamanship, Good seamanship takes many many years to master, a skill set that is a matter of life and death. Retired i now pilot a sweet little class C motorhome, Before that thirty years as a Master for a large oil tanker company. i have watched all their videos, And i believe i am a fair judge of people and their ability to learn. they are YEARS away from taking on such a responsibility. Talk to any Coast Guardman who has spent anytime at sea, they know the type. these poor souls are way in over their heads.

    • @DutchStar443
      @DutchStar443 8 лет назад

      +we tolow Dude, give it a rest. Enjoy the videos for what they are. These people are not stupid, and you aren't born into having 30 yrs experience. Enjoy the journey.

    • @wetolow1444
      @wetolow1444 8 лет назад

      First off, I am NOT your DUDE. "Born into having 30 years experience "? No, I worked my ASS off , 4 years collage, 6 years line officer USN, The list goes on, Look up what is required to become a ship's Master ( Captain ). I assure you one is NOT born into it. I simply am making an observation, Based on experience. These people are on a fools mission and people like you cheer them on, Sadistic to say the least. If two grown adults want to end their life's at their own expense, So be it. But it seldom is at their OWN expense, It usually involves the lives of good men and women of the Coast Guard or other emergency services and tax payer's dollars in the millions. YOU are in no position to tell me to give ANYTHING a rest, If anything hopefully i can open others eyes foolish enough to try and follow in their foot steps.
      "Until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore, you will not know the terror of being forever lost at sea."

    Maybe so the canopy would act like a staysail in concert with a sea anchor while at the same time keeping the entrance leeward to wind and wave?

    Great video guys, Internet on Boats...... Not been afloat for a while but the satellite option is there but soooooo expensive, most Marinas have it but once again it has to be paid for ....if it is working, up and down the intercostal is on but in then Islands ( Bahamas) it's still sketchy.... Its all about the Journey :-) You know my feelings ........... Have a charter and get the feeling .....for costs and practicality, most sailors write books :-)

    Hi Guys, Saw one of your videos about 2 weeks on one where you just bought your Cat. and now getting caught up. From my understanding the only internet connection you can get while on the ocean is through satellite link. Although this technology has improved, you may still opt for the nearest hotel/internet cafe. Really like your videos. You might consider putting some sort of number on them so new folks can be sure to watch them in the proper order (just a thought). 😉
    ps. It'll be interesting to see if you guys get to check out a Sunreef Sailing Cat...And to get your oppion, but I suspect they might be a little out-of-budget.

    Its probably been said already but I didn't see it but maybe a long range trawler might be worthy of consideration, Kady Krogan or Nordhavn etc and I know cats are spacious ( I have one) but if nothing suitable is showing there really are some fantastic mono's out there which might be adapted more cost efficiently than less than ideal cats.

    Was wondering why your so set on a catamaran? Every boat has draw backs. and I was wondering what your must haves are? monohull is nice in the fact it won't break your bank. cats are fast, roomy and can go in some shallow water but they are expensive to buy and maintain. 2 hulls= twice the cost. really be sure a cat is what you want before you buy one. go sail a nice 40 ft mono and you may be impressed with its performance and high level of comfort.

    If you have a dive compressor by all means make it gas. My 5hp Honda/Stewart Warner unit will fill 3 80cf tanks per hour to 3500# on very little fuel. Now 24 years old it is new again w/ new 5 hp Honda. An electric drive compressor will challenge a 5500 kw Onan at start and fill one tank per hour. Not even a close comparison. Build a steel cage to bolt to deck. These are first things stolen on night raids. chain and cable everything. psst: Go Mono, at least 40ft. Fuel often.

    Don't let people quash your dreams. Just for fun, here is a blog by our good friends, who used to have the slip next to ours in Hawaii. They are realizing their dream. Yes, it's a monohull, and yes they were already fairly experienced sailors and .it started in the rougher waters of the Pacific, but I think you'll find it enjoyable to start at the beginning of their journey and read along as they went from adventure to adventure and continue to do so. They have a FB page also, but this will give you the best diary of their adventures in the Delphinia.This is what you can expect. They are living it. delphinia458.blogspot.com

    You should really consider a smaller catamaran motor yacht than a sail cat. Motored Yachts are a whole lot of less work and maintaining to do on a daily basis...
    For a Suggestion - Keep your motor-home and have the best of both worlds.

    THe wifi solution - is that for in boat or point to point (ship to shore)? As that can depend on several factors, but "in boat" is obviously straight forward. Of of course, the slightly more expensive satellite option www.bestsatelliteproviders.com/satellite-internet-providers/

    At the 6 minute mark the guy told you "a tourniquet you can jury rig", bad advice. Nothing wrong with getting an AED but get a kit that covers a wide range of problems. And get to an advanced first aid course. They still don't like teaching tourniquet use to lowly civilians, but they can be a life saver.

      one, two, ten, doesn't matter, they will soon be lost at sea, starving to death. maybe they should take 100 cats, to eat.

      +Scott Deney With the type of boating they wanna do, yeah it's expensive. Anytime you want something seaworthy to go out in the ocean it's gonna cost big bucks.

      I think they're in for a rude awakening on what it's really gonna take to do it and it's true overall cost. They just need to stick with their RV and get some serious boating experience under their belts before biting off more than they can chew.

      Not sure what your point is with that comment, because airplanes had alot of trial and error with engineers and mechanics to figure out what would work and what wouldn't, and of course all of that took money, from their own pockets or investors.
