  • The sharks were in so I am posting a quick report of this one. I cut out long periods of reel'ing and kept in the dirty awkward stuff. Landed 3, lost even more. Ran out of bait quick! First cast had one that breached water and shook the hook about 200YDS out! Really cool sight! All were brown sharks and they were bigger then they were the past week. The 14/0 Mustad Circle performed better then the 16/0 and standard J hooks today. The back end of the bunker also seemed to do better then the upper end. I have several other vids if I have time I will post. Catch the latest action at www.fishjonesbeach.com for current reports, tides, moon phase, wind data and weather info for your next outing.

    I live nearby. I never knew there were sharks around. I guess I’ve just assumed that because of how dead our other fish populations are.

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  5 лет назад +2

      Yea there are tons of them! They tend to leave people alone but may be something linking them to other fish populations and movements good point!

      Lastly, what species do you target? Isn’t it illegal to target brown sharks?

      @@randomamerican3287 Thanks much its fun try to keep a reel picture of fishing. I love my penn squidder and old spinfisher blanks. Always try to make a nice picture but get what I can get on the camera and its a ruff production! I fish for about anything that swims in the area fresh and saltwater from fly spin to casting tackle too its all exciting to me! You can shark fish just use inline circle hooks which work better for them anyways! Thanks a bunch Liam!

      Once I hooked one in my boat and i beat its brains out with my wooden club. It was still alive, and I popped his eye out. Legend has it that one eye, the little shit that he is, is still stealing bait.

    Im planning on trying to do some shark fishing from the surf on the south shore soon- just curious when is the shark fishing best, and is it common to catch sharks from the beach at long island (what are the best beaches)? Im considering Smiths Point-- also, did u need a kayak to get the bait out there? Thanks!

    Those mustads have some serious barbs.. I usually crush them down a bit to make unhooking these guys easier.

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  7 лет назад +2

      Thats a good "POINT" lol yea they are very wide barbs I should have made mention of that in the hook video. I usually crush em when I gap em, you are 100% right on the hook set!

    What was the setup used in this vid (rod length, reel size , line) looking to get into surf casting for shark

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  7 лет назад +2

      I would say heavy surf tackle. Rod is 11 foot 2-8 ounce but can handle 10 ounce well. I like the older bait reels that is a 140 squidder penn, but any beachmaster, jigmaster or surfmaster is comparable. Line is braided I used between 50-60 for the sharks normally you can go lighter but i like the heavier lines because it lasts longer. If you have any questions on details let me know I would be more then happy to help! Tight lines Trevor and thanks for watching!

    The weather is getting WARMER!! I hope the water temperature goes up to a solid 60-70 degrees by the end of MAY going into JUNE so I can get out there and target these beasts!!

      Its a late season so far in the area, BUT it is getting warmer and I have to say its a good thing cause I THINK it should be a late bute wil season shopuld get great once it warms!!! Good stuff!!!!

      The water temperature is in the 60s! I've been monitoring the buoys's in the water and they're all showing 60f+ Sandy Hook buoy is @ 67f! currently. Do you think its a good idea to go out and try my luck on Sunday? I am dying to go out.... lol.

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  6 лет назад +1

      May still be early but you will tie into one while fishing for blues or bass with big bait if they are around so I say give it a shot!

      smokster0604 Haha! Yea, something with a longer grip! I keep a set in my bag but its always 10yds away! Yea using bunker chunks. Anything baitfish should work, mackerel is supposed to be the tops but more expensive, if bluefish are around even better and makes a great bait! Thanks as always!

  • @TheJeggs44

    14/0 is a little way too big for these fish

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  9 лет назад +1

      ***** Haha I see your point! Try the Mustad 39965 Circles, they have their own sizes, there 14/0 is more like a 10/0 I should have made mention the model hook (the 12/0 Mustad 39965 would not work at all with chunks thats like a 6/0!) But yea some hook manufacturers make a pretty big 14/0 These are not one. Standard J's I would never go more then 10/0! good point thanks!

    • @FishYourWay

    Great videos man. I'm gonna be fishing there in early October. Can you tell me the rig and bait your using to catch these sharks

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  9 лет назад +1

      +NYfishing Thank you! Hope you subscribe well have more videos soon with recent reports. Was out today and there are small tuna around. I tied into one but it got off in no time. Hoping the bass get here soon with some blues. I use a slide rig but the slide is on about 4-5ft of 130-130lb mono with a 1ft section of 7 strand 90lb wire. Use 14/0-16/0 mustad circles 95% of the time. If you use J hooks 10/0-12/0 would be ample. I double my main line with a spider hitch and coastlock the rig to the main. I will post a vid in the winter of the rig. It lends itself nicely to casting with a heavy setup. Thanks again for your question and hope you subscribe to the channel, FJB

    awesome video! i was wondering if you are using fresh or frozen bunker bc i tried this type of fishing last summer using frozen w no luck so i switched to fresh kingfish and had no luck aswell. So, frozen or fresh?

    • @FishYourWay
      @FishYourWay  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks much! I have used both, the fresh is always best but I will freeze them and use frozen too. I done ok with frozen but you cant beat fresh bunker. I freeze them fresh with some salt they do well like that. Thanks again!

    • @MrXinsizionx
      @MrXinsizionx 7 лет назад

      Trek800z I find that the Sharks usually don't mind frozen, but fresh has that bloody belly meat that is great. When the beach is loaded with blues in late summer, throw a whole or half bunker...

    • @FishYourWay

      I just cast, most the time they cruise pretty close to shore inside 20-30 yds easy. furthest Im casting with large bait will be about 40-50 yds maybe but 20-30yds is normal. Just find a nice piece of water close in! Any questions just ask! Thanks and hope you subscribe to the channel!

      +ProcardcollecterAndGamer Thank you! Not yet, but if any around they will show soon. I have heard of a few being caught but I have not caught any this early fall yet. This beach tends to light up around Halloween a week or so before and after for striper.
