Thanks Steve and Brandon for introducing me to some great music that I should have known since back in the day but slipped by me somehow! I went searching for the Man Of Miracles CD but it seems to be out of print but, on Amazon I found a reissue of all of their first 4 albums on a double disc called "Complete Wooden Nickel Recordings" and it's only $14. 🥳

Glad you loved them John!. I would have loved to get the original albums on CD, but I have them on vinyl and the Wooden Nickel set on CD is well worth it. I guess my least favorite album from the early years was The Serpent is Rising, but some of the songs in there might have been their hardest. The first album isn't that bad for a debut! Movement for the Common Man is great!

I’ve been subscribed to your channel for quite a while and always happy when I see you reacting to Styx. What a bonus to get so many songs in one shot. Great reaction, as usual!!

I just saw Styx last night at the Venetian in Vegas. They performed the whole "Grand Illusion" album first-to-last song, and then did like 12-14 more songs - awesome show! I got to hear "Castle Walls" live again for the 2nd time.
Also, "Man In The Wilderness" as on the album (I've seen Tommy do that one mostly acoustic) - he even went to a small table at the stage wings to strike the match sound to start the song.
I've seen them a lot, and the setlist was definitely a switch-up.
The stage was fairly clean without their usual amps & ramps - just Lawrence's keyboard and a brand new drumset for Todd. The whole backdrop was a screen, and so it was the sets of the stage. It showed the playing of the "Grand Illusion" vinyl by the teenager in his 70's bedroom along with videos for the songs.

Hi CastleW! Styx + Vegas? How cool is that?!! Based on your screen name, I bet you lost it a bit when they played CW 😊 So happy that you had an awesome night!

Great smorgasbord of early Styx gems!!. I think all these songs never charted, but to me, they are so underrated! Glad you loved them Brandon!. Thanks for all your hard work as always!. When i was in HS Marching band, we did Clair De Lune and loved how he used that song as a prelude to Ballerina.

For a long drive I start at their first album and listen to them all in order - lots of good stuff in the Wooden Nickel years that were not promoted, and so much on A&M albums they could only promote some.
"Young Man" by James "JY" Young and "Best Thing" by Dennis, JC, and JY all trading off lead are some more early stuff to check out; or "Man Of Miracles", "The Serpent Is Rising", and "The Grove Of Eglantine".

I second this, especially The Grove Of Eglantine,.

I must admit, I don’t really know the real early, deep cut Styx stuff, even though I have most of their albums! I really love Dennis’ vocals.

A song that should have been included on this road trip you are on is a song that never made it to an album but was a fan favorite in early Styx shows. “Unfinished song” is unbelievable and shows where Styx was headed with their style!

If I were a male, i think i would want his voice. It's truly FANTASTIC!!

Forgot that John C could sing...usually Dennis DeYoung and James Young split the vocals nearly 50/50 before Tommy Shaw replaced John C

The first four albums are good with some good songs but are inconsistent. John C's songs are definitely a level below DDY's songs. You can understand why they took a huge leap when Tommy joined. Tommy had a better feel for melody than John had. Claire de Lune. Ballerina is one of the very best of their deep cuts.
