Love this channel. Really dont agree with the enemy variety comment, though. This is exactly what we needed. No stupid fantasy flashy hit effects and animals flying out Niohs ass. Just a pure Samurai stealth open world game. It is called Rise of the Ronin like...
True, the variety seems to come in the styles of combat and weapons they use. We don't need the Ubisoft version with normal sized enemies and gargantuan enemies, with the "tough" versions of each. Sometimes if there's too much variety put into the mixture it just becomes diluted
Yeah… until you pull out a huge wing contraption out of your arse to glide through the world, light your sword on fire and deflect bullets… I don’t disagree we didn’t need over the top fantasy elements but to suggest it’s pure a samurai ronin adventure just ignores the liberties and fantastical elements they have implemented.
As i’m currently playing Ghost of Tsushima after platinum(ing) all the soulsborne games ending with sekiro, Rise of the Ronin looks like a literal dream to me. i wonder why it’s getting so much hate. i hope the game does well, like really :/

Fans of asian games are eating deliciously now. Getting Rise of the Ronin, Dragon's Dogma 2, Stellar Blade, Wukong, Erdtree DLC, Eiyuden Chronicle 100 heroes, Metaphor: RePhantazio, Visions of Mana. The only problem is when I gonna complete them, still playing FF7 Rebirth and have many things to do there. Man, where is my old days when I had so much free time...
@@mattm7798 Much better definitely, by a mile, and I am 100% completed Remake and DLC. The segmented open world, mechanics, mini-games, characters interactions, dialogues writing, the overall tone and atmosphere is amazing. The only problem is performance mode, so, at least till they patch it, I recommend playing in graphics mode. On my LG OLED it looks awesome. Eagerly waiting what they gonna do in the Part 3. I bought 2 copies and don't regret it (the excitement was too big to skip the launch, living in a distant place where physical copies always arriving 1,5-2+ weeks later -- the deluxe edition is beautiful).
I hope they never release it on PC with how bad they did with Wo Long and then abandoned it, not fixing it at all lol. TN should never release another PC port again
Great video and definitely helped temper my expectations. Not every Team Ninja game will be the masterpiece the first Ninja Gaiden was, but they keep making quality games.

I'll take 60 fps over graphics anyday. Dragons Dogma 2 releases the same day and the framerate will be uncapped. It fluctuates between 24 to 31 FPS on console...yikes. I might be picking this up on launch just because of that

I feel like I'm in a minority. When i played wulong, all the supernatural stuff really took me out of the game. The combat system was great, but constantly fight weird demons took me out of the game real quick. I might be biased since i played a ton of dynasty warriors as a kid.

something is wrong with a color palate and art direction. Looks very bad. Towns and environments look dead. But I am glad it’s not Tsushima because outside of combat every element was bland
Elden Ring looks like early PS4 game tbh and that's not bad at all, gameplay is exactly the same as the previous 5 titles, which is totally fine as well. But when some other company does it, it's dated and mediocre

Nioh 2 is one of my favorite games and i love what i'm seeing in videos of this game. I'm sure i will have a lot of fun with it and i see we can do izuna drop, i wonder what ninja skill we will have and if boss will give secret skill like in Nioh 2.
I want to get both Dragon's Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin. However, I'm disappointed they come out the exact same day. I'll have to pick up Rise of the Ronin later on or on sale
exact opposite for me, im going to get ronin first and DD2 later. DD2 is an offline game with no co-op and wont run away. ronin on the other hand has co-op which is already a big plus for these type of games. im sure its up to preference for everyone, as to why for me ronin is simply the better choice to go first.
Great preview, if i had a ps5 i would definitely pick it up but on the segement of what you didnt like is quite superficial, like you were more concerned on how enemies look than how they play, their attack patterns, defensive movements etc..what differences does it make if all enemies play the same but look different, i would prefer the opposite of that..let the enemies look similar but have different elements to keep encounters interesting. All in all stellar hands-on as usual.
This is actually exactly what i was looking for. I dont need a game with combat AS deep as Nioh - i can just play Nioh. I was looking for a GoT competitor with an interesting open world and i personally think this will scratch my itch. Dragons Dogma 2 better not disappoint tho lol

I'm a huge fan of the Nioh games and I can't wait to play this game. Taking Nioh's combat, injecting some mechanics from Wo Long, and moving to an open world with potentially instanced missions sounds amazing. I do wish the animations and visuals were a bit better. They definitely don't look current gen at all. But for me, Team Ninja's games are all about the combat and this one looks like it's delivering on that. I'll definitely be playing this before Dragon's Dogma 2.
Yeah unfortunately though, team ninja aren't playing to their strengths here. They have streamlined combat for this game making it far easy for the casuals,and the open world will take away from the combat and also the awesome gear hunt nioh did well.
I'm curious about the stealth, are the stealth attacks instakills? Or is it like "oh, this enemy is too strong, you only hurt him a little bit"? Because that always peeved me about stealth attacks in these games. Same with the finishers, in Strangers of Paradise they had the Soul Burst finishers, which were just mad satisfying, where as here they seem to have gone back to the Nioh style finishers, which are cool, but obviously weaker lol
Go watch Joraptor preview. He said that most stealth kills are instakills. You can one shot enemies with a bow headshot for long range or melee for close range.
This game being coop means i will buy the game but since it's pure historical setting without fantasy means ill be getting DD2 first. Im a big fan of Nioh and Wu Long so I'm sure this will be fun
It is NOT co-op. You can't run through the game with your buddies. You can only do co-op during specific missions and once the mission is finished, the co-op buddy is gone.
😂 I was thinking in terms of the building layouts as I watched the game play in to the more modern town. The criminal or punishment system that was mentioned. And even the horse back gallops. Ghost had a similar flow yet not as restrained visually. Give more of the Arthur Morgan tightness in the angled shots. That'd why I said sprinkle tho.
Ah man, thanks for making this. I'm feeling much more positive about it now. I know I can't expect it to be Nioh 3 (which is what I actually want), but hearing that it has enough elements of Nioh but with lots of other stuff mixed in is great. One question I do have though, if you could answer me, is whether skills you unlock are tied to specific weapons like in WoLong, or whether once you unlock a skill/perk, you have access to it from then on. Because that was the one thing that made me fall out of love with WoLong.
It looks fairly intriguing. One thing that seems to stand out in footage is how the typical open world activities have a little more bite to them due to the intrinsically more technical navigation of the game environment. This reminds me of how open world activities in Breath of the Wild were just a bit more interesting due to the nuanced and interactive game world compared to a more generic Assassin's Creed type experience. I do have concerns that the setting is a little too conservative based on what we can see so far. Team Ninja has been really good at creating off-kilter historical fantasy worlds in their other games. I am curious if this game's setting will become a bit more hyperreal and exaggerated later in, if there is a greater narrative focus on setting up that kind of world. Rather than just starting with "okay it's historical japan but everyone has a pokemon and the queen of england is also satan".
Guess I need to wait for full game reviews to get a sense of whether this will be worth it. So far the previews haven't given me enough confidence that I won't just go back to Nioh or Ghost of Tsushima after a few hours.
The lack of enemy variety is exactly what i feared from the start. TeamNinja is absolute god tier combat wise (Ninja gaiden,Nioh,Wo long) but imagine any of those games without fantasy elements. Combat is sick again but this looks like they are going mainstream (open world,difficulty options,ubisoft formula) still gonna buy day1 but yh all human enemies just kills my excitement.

While it seems fun and all, I think we indeed would be better off with a Nioh 3 Open World. Imagine a huge Yokai in an open field. Also, the physics of this game is still like Wo Long, Nioh or even Ninja Gaiden. Feels so smooth yet less impactful for an exploration game

Exactly Nioh Wo Long even Ninja gaiden all had amazing bosses and they were always fantasy/supernatural. I really think this will be the worst team ninja game. No one buys their games for the story or ubisoft style open world. Absolute crazy decision cutting all fantasy elements in their biggest game.
I'll get both Ronin and DD2, but play DD2 first. Rise of the Ronin looks pretty good, and a fun game to play. I'll just need my high fantasy hit first :D

By far the best and most in-depth early impressions I've seen of the game so far. I actually learned some stuff about the core gameplay instead of seeing a youtuber cry about the graphics. Very excited for this game.

I dont might that but like i said there are tons of simillar games and they need to somehow out shine others. I've been playing lotf and lies of p. They both looks really good. I got back to play some sekiro after years of playing it and graphics put me off.
Not everything is about graphics. Gameplay is more important. I’d rather have a game that looks like this and is fun rather than looking gorgeous and is ass. Just my opinion though!

Team Ninja not only gives us outdated graphics like in PS3, but also stone-like movements. Why is it so hard to have some dust on the feet when someone move?
One positive thing about the enemies all being human, is that it makes it a lot easier to actually see when they're swinging at you. Trying to parry/deflect blows from huge monsters and whatnot can be a massive pain in the ass when their bodies are so large and asymmetrical that it becomes difficult to tell what part to focus on - and you end up spamming barrel roll instead 😂

i loved nioh and nioh 2 so I will probably love this. the only thing that looks really rough are some of the player animations, especially when jumping and landing.

Pre-ordered a physical copy of ronin. I need my ghost of Tsushima itch and I think this will do. I like what they are doing so far ronin along with the pr that Sony is giving it so my hopes on this game are pretty high. I look forward to playing this game.
Great video. I was on the fence but I think I'll definitely be getting it now. I never played Dragons Dogma so I'll be sticking with Rise out of the 2. That being said I am intrigued by DD2, I actually just picked up a ps3 and am downloading the demo of the original as I type this to try it out
The inspiration taken from Like a dragon Ishin is so apparent but that’s not a bad thing; From the weapon stances including the sword & pistol, the town reputation system. You can see the inspiration & combination of multiple games that look to mix very well together.
I for one welcome an action rpg with TN combat in a more grounded setting. There are plenty of other games if you want to fight monsters or supernatural enemies, but as someone who enjoys more realistic games when done right im really happy rise of the ronin seems to only feature human enemies
I’m excited for this game. I’m going into DD2 very cautiously. It looks very clunky and awkward/slow. Maybe too realistic. But I haven’t seen much of it other than the griffon
Going Rise of the Ronin as opposed to DD2 honestly, as much as I love the OG DD, team ninja is just been my goto for years now, even though I didn’t love Wo-Long as much as I thought I would, I am actually excited for this one. With that said DD2 will 100% be next in line, just gotta wrap up FF7 Rebirth first, lmao. With that said, people need to chill, all of reddit and youtube comments is just people restating what their favorite youtube said. This game may lack the complexity of Nioh 2, but that doesn’t mean it’s a one button masher because it lacks a dedicated heavy attack button, like chill people, this is Team Ninja, not AC Origins.
Going with the first due to the frame rate issues with dd2 and it’s also a way longer game that will require more taking. So this one it is. Seems more approachable and less demanding of attention. Looking video gamish works for me kinda nice to see all this super realism toned down in trade for other features like bigger boss battles and smoother fighting. This is my day 1 play but I’m buying both
I’m interested in Ronin for sure but life has kept me so busy lately so I’m still working my way through FF Rebirth, then I will play Dragons Dogma 2… so Ronin will have to wait unfortunately!
i think this game was in development so long that it started out on last gen hardware and basically we have an upscalled PS4 game in terms of graphics. But as long as the game play and story are interesting enough to keep me invested I'm not going to compare it to more recent games in terms of looks.

Someone finally brought up the enemy variety. It's what I felt would be a major hole in the combat like with Wo Long and Nioh 1.

something is wrong with a color palate and art direction. Looks very bad. Towns and environments look dead. But I am glad it’s not Tsushima because outside of combat every element was bland

For all the hype around DD2, I don't think the combat system in that looks anywhere near as fun and dynamic as this does.

What I'm getting is this game is like Ghost of Tsushima with Nioh 2 and Sekiro SDT game play mechanics. I like it.
Nioh 2 is one of my favorite games and i love what i'm seeing in videos of this game. I'm sure i will have a lot of fun with it and i see we can do izuna drop, i wonder what ninja skill we will have and if boss will give secret skill like in Nioh 2.

I want to get both Dragon's Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin. However, I'm disappointed they come out the exact same day. I'll have to pick up Rise of the Ronin later on or on sale

exact opposite for me, im going to get ronin first and DD2 later. DD2 is an offline game with no co-op and wont run away. ronin on the other hand has co-op which is already a big plus for these type of games. im sure its up to preference for everyone, as to why for me ronin is simply the better choice to go first.

Great preview, if i had a ps5 i would definitely pick it up but on the segement of what you didnt like is quite superficial, like you were more concerned on how enemies look than how they play, their attack patterns, defensive movements etc..what differences does it make if all enemies play the same but look different, i would prefer the opposite of that..let the enemies look similar but have different elements to keep encounters interesting. All in all stellar hands-on as usual.
This is actually exactly what i was looking for. I dont need a game with combat AS deep as Nioh - i can just play Nioh. I was looking for a GoT competitor with an interesting open world and i personally think this will scratch my itch. Dragons Dogma 2 better not disappoint tho lol

I'm a huge fan of the Nioh games and I can't wait to play this game. Taking Nioh's combat, injecting some mechanics from Wo Long, and moving to an open world with potentially instanced missions sounds amazing.
I do wish the animations and visuals were a bit better. They definitely don't look current gen at all. But for me, Team Ninja's games are all about the combat and this one looks like it's delivering on that.
I'll definitely be playing this before Dragon's Dogma 2.
Yeah unfortunately though, team ninja aren't playing to their strengths here. They have streamlined combat for this game making it far easy for the casuals,and the open world will take away from the combat and also the awesome gear hunt nioh did well.
I'm curious about the stealth, are the stealth attacks instakills? Or is it like "oh, this enemy is too strong, you only hurt him a little bit"? Because that always peeved me about stealth attacks in these games. Same with the finishers, in Strangers of Paradise they had the Soul Burst finishers, which were just mad satisfying, where as here they seem to have gone back to the Nioh style finishers, which are cool, but obviously weaker lol
It's the latter. It was shown in the previews and trailers. It works the same way as past Team Ninja titles.
Go watch Joraptor preview. He said that most stealth kills are instakills. You can one shot enemies with a bow headshot for long range or melee for close range.
This game being coop means i will buy the game but since it's pure historical setting without fantasy means ill be getting DD2 first. Im a big fan of Nioh and Wu Long so I'm sure this will be fun
It is NOT co-op. You can't run through the game with your buddies. You can only do co-op during specific missions and once the mission is finished, the co-op buddy is gone.
This game is a combination of many games. Nioh, Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima, Assassin's Creed all come to mind when I watch this video.

😂 I was thinking in terms of the building layouts as I watched the game play in to the more modern town. The criminal or punishment system that was mentioned. And even the horse back gallops. Ghost had a similar flow yet not as restrained visually. Give more of the Arthur Morgan tightness in the angled shots. That'd why I said sprinkle tho.
Ah man, thanks for making this. I'm feeling much more positive about it now. I know I can't expect it to be Nioh 3 (which is what I actually want), but hearing that it has enough elements of Nioh but with lots of other stuff mixed in is great. One question I do have though, if you could answer me, is whether skills you unlock are tied to specific weapons like in WoLong, or whether once you unlock a skill/perk, you have access to it from then on. Because that was the one thing that made me fall out of love with WoLong.
It looks fairly intriguing. One thing that seems to stand out in footage is how the typical open world activities have a little more bite to them due to the intrinsically more technical navigation of the game environment. This reminds me of how open world activities in Breath of the Wild were just a bit more interesting due to the nuanced and interactive game world compared to a more generic Assassin's Creed type experience.
I do have concerns that the setting is a little too conservative based on what we can see so far. Team Ninja has been really good at creating off-kilter historical fantasy worlds in their other games. I am curious if this game's setting will become a bit more hyperreal and exaggerated later in, if there is a greater narrative focus on setting up that kind of world. Rather than just starting with "okay it's historical japan but everyone has a pokemon and the queen of england is also satan".
Guess I need to wait for full game reviews to get a sense of whether this will be worth it. So far the previews haven't given me enough confidence that I won't just go back to Nioh or Ghost of Tsushima after a few hours.

The lack of enemy variety is exactly what i feared from the start. TeamNinja is absolute god tier combat wise (Ninja gaiden,Nioh,Wo long) but imagine any of those games without fantasy elements. Combat is sick again but this looks like they are going mainstream (open world,difficulty options,ubisoft formula) still gonna buy day1 but yh all human enemies just kills my excitement.

While it seems fun and all, I think we indeed would be better off with a Nioh 3 Open World. Imagine a huge Yokai in an open field. Also, the physics of this game is still like Wo Long, Nioh or even Ninja Gaiden. Feels so smooth yet less impactful for an exploration game

Still looking forward to it, enemy diversity was one of my biggest worries . Something I thought even Wo Long was lacking in but at least thy made up for it in the boss battles. Not sure if that will be the case in ROTR
Exactly Nioh Wo Long even Ninja gaiden all had amazing bosses and they were always fantasy/supernatural. I really think this will be the worst team ninja game. No one buys their games for the story or ubisoft style open world. Absolute crazy decision cutting all fantasy elements in their biggest game.
I'll get both Ronin and DD2, but play DD2 first. Rise of the Ronin looks pretty good, and a fun game to play. I'll just need my high fantasy hit first :D

By far the best and most in-depth early impressions I've seen of the game so far. I actually learned some stuff about the core gameplay instead of seeing a youtuber cry about the graphics. Very excited for this game.

I already bought the deluxe edition of Ronin. On my opinion I like the samurai era more.
I'll be honest. There are tons of game like this nowdays and more on the way. Graphics on this one looks really outdated. I dont might that but like i said there are tons of simillar games and they need to somehow out shine others. I've been playing lotf and lies of p. They both looks really good. I got back to play some sekiro after years of playing it and graphics put me off.
Not everything is about graphics. Gameplay is more important. I’d rather have a game that looks like this and is fun rather than looking gorgeous and is ass. Just my opinion though!
DD2 is going to win for me, really wondering what they were thinking with the release date. Seems like pushing it back to mid spring would work better.

One positive thing about the enemies all being human, is that it makes it a lot easier to actually see when they're swinging at you.
Trying to parry/deflect blows from huge monsters and whatnot can be a massive pain in the ass when their bodies are so large and asymmetrical that it becomes difficult to tell what part to focus on - and you end up spamming barrel roll instead 😂

i loved nioh and nioh 2 so I will probably love this. the only thing that looks really rough are some of the player animations, especially when jumping and landing.

Pre-ordered a physical copy of ronin. I need my ghost of Tsushima itch and I think this will do. I like what they are doing so far ronin along with the pr that Sony is giving it so my hopes on this game are pretty high. I look forward to playing this game.

Great video. I was on the fence but I think I'll definitely be getting it now. I never played Dragons Dogma so I'll be sticking with Rise out of the 2. That being said I am intrigued by DD2, I actually just picked up a ps3 and am downloading the demo of the original as I type this to try it out
The inspiration taken from Like a dragon Ishin is so apparent but that’s not a bad thing; From the weapon stances including the sword & pistol, the town reputation system. You can see the inspiration & combination of multiple games that look to mix very well together.
DD2 for me. That will keep me busy till No Rest and then Elden Ring DLC. Bad timing on this but I'll play it in the fall.

I for one welcome an action rpg with TN combat in a more grounded setting. There are plenty of other games if you want to fight monsters or supernatural enemies, but as someone who enjoys more realistic games when done right im really happy rise of the ronin seems to only feature human enemies

Going Rise of the Ronin as opposed to DD2 honestly, as much as I love the OG DD, team ninja is just been my goto for years now, even though I didn’t love Wo-Long as much as I thought I would, I am actually excited for this one. With that said DD2 will 100% be next in line, just gotta wrap up FF7 Rebirth first, lmao.
With that said, people need to chill, all of reddit and youtube comments is just people restating what their favorite youtube said. This game may lack the complexity of Nioh 2, but that doesn’t mean it’s a one button masher because it lacks a dedicated heavy attack button, like chill people, this is Team Ninja, not AC Origins.
After playing Ghost of Tsushima, it became my standard when it comes to samurai games. Rise of the Ronin didn't met my expectations

Going with the first due to the frame rate issues with dd2 and it’s also a way longer game that will require more taking. So this one it is. Seems more approachable and less demanding of attention. Looking video gamish works for me kinda nice to see all this super realism toned down in trade for other features like bigger boss battles and smoother fighting. This is my day 1 play but I’m buying both
Getting dogma on pc cause of the fps issues and free online, getting this for the ps5 looks good.

i think this game was in development so long that it started out on last gen hardware and basically we have an upscalled PS4 game in terms of graphics.
But as long as the game play and story are interesting enough to keep me invested I'm not going to compare it to more recent games in terms of looks.
