    • @flingonber
      @flingonber 3 месяца назад

      I actually think her lighter sentence was probably fair; if you think about the views of her husband and how they were passed on to the son, she had obviously been under the same kind of domination and control that Summer was trying to escape from, but in her case for like fifty years. That doesn't mean she wasn't responsible for what she did, but fifty years of abuse will really damage a person. I'm completely willing to believe that her husband and son thought up this plan and she felt like she didn't have a choice about going along with it, because she probably felt like she didn't have a choice about pretty much anything in her life. Victims of abuse go along with what's happening, it's a survival strategy.

    • @sternshadowdude2
      @sternshadowdude2 3 месяца назад +3

    • @flingonber
      @flingonber 3 месяца назад

      @@sternshadowdude2 No, actually, I don't. And, I'm guessing unlike you, I have actually worked with survivors of CSA (both adults and children) as a mental health clinician. So the first thing that's wrong with what you're saying is that the whole premise is not really true - victims of abuse IN GENERAL are more likely to commit crimes as adults, but the only sex crime that victims of CSA are significantly more likely to be arrested for is prostitution. Victims of physical abuse, on the other hand, are significantly more likely to be arrested for violent crimes in general, and violent sex crimes in particular. So if your dad beat you, guess what? You're more likely to commit CSA than someone who was a victim of CSA themselves.
      That aside, what I DO think is that only people who aren't very bright want to see the world in black-and-white terms. Pedos didn't choose to be what they are, and you can have compassion for them and the situation that they're in, ESPECIALLY if they were also victims, and still recognize that they are dangerous and that children need to be protected from them. Just like you can recognize that the woman in this case was broken down from years of abuse and domination and also deserves some compassion. Recognizing the causes and conditions that lead to a particular outcome doesn't preclude seeing that outcome as unacceptable. I'm sure that's way too nuanced for you, though, because it sounds like you're still stuck in the five-year-olds idea of "good guys" and "bad guys".

    Those who have a passing understanding of felony murder statutes understand that all three were guilty of murder regardless of intent.
    This leads to some interesting outcomes. For example, if Summer had strangled Will Jr in the back seat, her act would have been in self defense. Yet both parents could have been convicted for first degree murder.
    The reason this is so is because the death of Will would have happened during the commission of a felony, that is, kidnapping.
