      I remember when the Rey story hit blogs. I didnt care because during that time Smackdown had a resurgence of some grade A Ruthless Aggression wrestling. Rey and Jericho. did an amazing job revitalizing the Intercontinental championship that doesnt get mentioned often. There was no need to rush with Dolph at that time. Throwing the belt around was what diminished it.

  • @criminalmindsgirl2936

    I can understand why Rey refused to drop the belt. WWE sometimes doesn't have respect for their wrestlers or the titles themselves. Rey wanted to tell a story with his feud with Dolph. And WWE tried to ruin that. I respect wrestlers wanting to tell a good story in the ring.

    I don’t blame Cena for not wanting to put Swagger over. He claimed that Swagger wasnt ready for the main event scene, and looking back at Jack’s lackluster WHC run, he was right.

The Nexus shouldn’t have been run over like that, and Barrett should’ve been not only the first WWE world champion of the 2010 generation of superstars we see today, but the first British born WWE world champion as well. As for Swagger, the man might’ve been a good college wrestler, and might’ve been somewhat okay in the mid card territory later on, but he was nowhere ready for a main event level run at the time.

Hogan may did the job, but he acted like a crybaby after the match, faking a neck injury. Even in WCW, Hogan refused to drop the WCW title to Sting at Starrcade because he doesn't like the way Sting looks, no tan, and no muscles. Yeah, but mistakes were already made. Jwagger shouldn't have won money inthe bank and being put in that place to begin with. IMO if they were still gonna push him, pushing him by defeating Cena would make much more sense as he then would have defeated the top guy in the company. Adding Jericho to this made it more messy and removed focus from the story they actually wanted to tell.
      Also they would always have had the fallback plan of Cena claiming a rematch after losing the title due to being attacked from behind after a match, which they don't really had after Swagger defeated Jericho.

    Bret being number 1 just for that one time with Shawn is kind of a stretch (arguments can be made Bret had a point), Bret has dropped the belt numerous times to Yoko, Bob Backlund, Diesel, even Shawn. Bret is arguably one of the most unselfish wrestlers in the business & the fact he gets a bad rap just for this where circumstances were against him is really silly.

    • @DragoEpyon
      @DragoEpyon 9 месяцев назад +8

      Bret may not have been selfish in the ring, but he has serious main character syndrome and was and still is very self centered. He didn't drop the belt to Diesel by the way. He dropped it to Backlund at Survivor Series 94, who dropped it to Diesel a couple days later, who then dropped it back to Hart at Survivor Series 95. He also didn't willingly drop it to Yoko, he was according to his own words, furious when he found that was the plan and threatened to leave the company over it.

    • @Marvellous132
      @Marvellous132 9 месяцев назад +18

      @@DragoEpyon With respects to Yoko (RIP Rodney), I think Hart was angry that he had to fight so hard to get to the top (Seven years, at the time) and Yoko comes in with an immediate push into the main event because- size iniit? He actually respected Rodney and his ability at first, but said he got arrogant and didn't keep in shape for wrestling. Then there was the Hogan thing, and then the Luger thing. Vince was always trying to push other guys based on their size and appearance, with often goofy gimmicks, rather than focusing on the product. The guy had been pulling out grade A matches for so long (Bulldog, Piper, Scott Hall, Michaels, Hennig....), only to get shunted aside (in his eyes) every time something shiny came along.

    • @FUGP72
      @FUGP72 9 месяцев назад +2

      ZERO arguments can be mad that Bret had a point. He was leaving the company. It was the 3rd biggest event of the year. He HAD to drop the title. And it HAD to be against the guy that they had ALREADY planned on Austin beating 5 months later at Wrestlemania. They are not going to undo MONTHS of prep for their #1 show just because Bret is the biggest mark of all time and for some fucked up reason, actually thought he was a REAL champion.

    • @Marvellous132
      @Marvellous132 9 месяцев назад +11

      @FUGP72 There was more to it than that. The only reason Bret was leaving is because Vince reneged on a contract, he begged Hart to sign after turning down more money and a lighter schedule at WCW. Bret wanted to stay and Vince, once again, showed that loyalty is a one way street by not keeping his word. Michaels, on the other hand, showed absolutely no respect to Hart after getting put over. It wasn't about character, it was about him being a drug addled, insecure twat. Michaels has been candid about it. Hart definitely took himself too seriously but he did have a lot respect for others and didn't go out of his way to crush others.

    Sable’s antics are why I say she still is the undisputed “Diva” of women’s wrestling.
    Sunny may have coined the image and career, even had the attitude of a diva. But Sable 100% had the backstage political acumen to keep her image alive as long as she could.
    She didn’t bump, refused to drop titles and tried to negotiate her contracts with Playboy outside of WWE, still coming back in ‘03 after her infamous lawsuit.
    Trish, Ronda, Becky, and Charlotte may be trailblazers and wrestling icons for women’s wrestling, but nobody ever had a place in the company like Sable.
    She’ll never need nor want a Hall of Fame induction because she made a name for herself in the 90’s that went further than wrestling.

  • @michaelhamilton7602

    Sable was never supposed to drop the belt to Luna. She was supposed to face Luna, with Tori in her corner, at Wrestlemania (not St. Valentine's Day Massacre) but Luna got suspended, hence the last minute match between Tori and Sable. However, Sable was supposed to drop the belt to Ivory after Backlash but she refused to drop it on television and would only agree to drop it at a house show. That caused them to do the controversial title switch with Debra since Debra wasn't seen as a credible wrestler and was popular enough with fans. She then dropped it to Ivory a month later, who was always meant to win it.
    The Chyna tidbit is inaccurate too. She never refused to drop the title. She was taken off of television and ultimately let go because she found about about Steph/HHH.

  • @forced4motorsports
    @forced4motorsports 9 месяцев назад +8

    Bret Hart's refusal was NOT selfishness. If you know the real story, you know that is a fact. Bret would have simply vacated the title when he left for WCW. Not like it hadn't happened before. The reason Bret did not want to put Shawn over was because Shawn was a world class dickhead.

    • @Sevicify
      @Sevicify 9 месяцев назад +1

      And the reason they screwed him over is they really could not wait for him to drop the title after Survivor Series. While Bret had weeks left on his contract during which he could drop the title the confidentiality agreement that prevented WCW from publicly announcing his signing expired on the day of SS, this meant they could (and did) announce it on Nitro the following night which started airing 1 hour before RAW.
      If Vince waited until after SS to take the title off Bret this would have allowed WCW to say they have signed the current WWF champion, this is a bigger deal that undermines WWF more compared to only being able to say a top WWF star or former champion. So in Vince's eyes it was either forcibly take the title of Bret at SS or risk WCW making them look like fools by announcing they have signed their current top champion possibly turning eyes away from them with nothing to really gain, Vince obviously chose to screw Bret over which itself carried a bunch of risks but at least gave them something they could work into their favour and do that they sure did.

    Bizarre that you have Jarrett here for "refusing" to drop the championship, when he did drop it, exactly as asked. He wasn't under contract, so of course he wanted to be paid for working.
    According to Jarrett, this didn't break his relationship with Vince at all, and indeed Jarrett was granted stock in the WWE IPO which happened shortly afterwards. Had Vince been mad, this would have been cancelled. WWE's poor relationship with him was much more to do with his walk-out at In Your House 2.

      Honestly, Honky NOT losing to Macho Man was the right call. Honky Tonk Man getting the upper hand over Macho Man and attacking Elizabeth is the "cherry on top" that made his intercontinental reign legendary, along with the fact that his reign got extended into a record breaking number of days because he didn't lose to Macho Man. It was the right call and it did NOT hurt Macho Man. Losing to Macho would have hurt Honky AND Macho (if Macho had won back that intercontinental title there is a high chance Vince would have left Macho in that intercontinental championship position and would NOT have given him the world title, which happened only 6 months later). In the end, I feel Honky Tonk Man's decision helped BOTH Honky and Macho Man.

      I gave you the names of the people Charlotte put over. Name ANY woman in the WWE that has put as many people over as Charlotte has. And even recently. She has lost against Iyo Sky members and Wom Tag team Matches with Shotzi by letting Shotzi get the pin. That is also a way of putting someone over. And of course CHarlotte has to win matches.
