    couple comments:
    - the RTLS runway is the closest runway to the launch pad among the OPS3 options. Since there is in theory only one runway at either KSC or Vandenberg, OPS1 gives the runway as a forced parameter to OPS3 bc there's no time to fiddle with the gui
    - The RTLS terminal pitchdown happened way too late, there has to be a bug somewhere
    - The gliding portion of this RTLS abort looks strange to me, I'd like to know what your payload was if you had any. I noticed guidance sticking to the g-limiting logic far too long and as a result you were monstrously high on energy during TAEM. Another bug to fix

      The payload was a tank of 12 tons of AvGas in the rear of the bay to try and make sure it was as close to the center of mass as possible since the Shuttle can, in theory, return with 12 tons. In the next video I can try without that, if you'd like.

      @giuliodondi 2 месяца назад +1

      @@RaizSpace I was kind of hoping it was way heavier than 12 tons, but no matter. I'll try to recreate your scenario (original RS-25, 12tons to 28°, failure at T+03) and push some fixes.
      Also bear in mind that 2EO or 3EO contingencies are planned for but not implemented yet

    • @RaizSpace
      @RaizSpace  2 месяца назад

      Ah, those aren't implemented. Well, I might see what happens just out of curiosity and also try out what happens with RTLS without payload.

      @@RaizSpace all you're going to get is a placeholder message and an infinite loop lol.
      That aside, 2eo situations which do not result in a contingency (late in rtls, tal or ato) are implemented and you can try those out. watch out fo the gui messages informing you of abort availability

      Hello everyone, you know my script has not improved at all, I keep putting run shuttle or run ops1 but nothing happens

    Quite late for me to comment but worth noting, as you wondered at 15:36, the names for the contingency aborts such as (2EO Blue, 2EO Yellow, Green, etc.) don't actually mean anything and are just labels, although almost all contingency aborts did involve water ditching and crew bailout.

    RTLS is always a nail-biter with STS.
    This has me wondering. Astronauts usually know their spacecraft hardware in and out. But do they also learn the software behind it? Would it even help in their job?

    The exclamation mark automatically shuts off an engine at the time you put into it. For example, if I put T+00:43s or something like that, the program will shut one engine down at T+43 seconds

      Ah, okay - it's to initiate a failure.

    Wish I was able to do stuff like this in RSS, I recently started rp-1 for the first time and got stuck in 1975 with no science. Tried a Falcon 9 mod from peak but for some reason it was wanky as anything, as if it was meant for a different game. All I want is a plug and play real rocket pack for RSS to mess around like this video.

    • @RaizSpace
      @RaizSpace  2 месяца назад

      Well, the install process for this Shuttle is linked in the video description. Altogether, it depends on what rockets you would like to run - some are easier to get plug-and-play versions of than others. For Falcon 9, PEKKA's mod (github.com/PEKKA-Space/PEKKAsMods/releases) has that and Starship, as well as craft files and kOS launch scripts, so that's as plug-and-play as it gets.

      @@RaizSpace Maybe my game settings are weird as when I tried to launch pekkas falcon 9 it required to put avionics on I thought the craft file would have avionics, plus it lauched weird, kept flipping over

    OMS normally light after SRB sep, but yea for balance it makes sense to RTLS.

    • @RaizSpace
      @RaizSpace  2 месяца назад

      On a normal launch, no, the OMS doesn't normally light after SRB sep except in this RTLS scenario. OMS only lights during launch for certain payloads and trajectories, but only later in the launch.

      There were 2 types of orbital insertion used: Standard insertion and Direct Insertion. Standard insertion did not use the OMS until after MECO, Direct insertion activated the OMS for a period during second stage flight.

      @darrenorange2982 I was addressing the statement "OMS normally light after SRB sep" - I'm aware there are cases where they do including abort, but I didn't think it was the normal case.

    have ChatGPT or similar analyze the kos program to try and determine where the landing is to take place - you'd be surprised how effectively it can analyze kos scripts

    • @RaizSpace
      @RaizSpace  2 месяца назад

      I mean, Giulio Dondi himself is in the comments, and already clarified the situation. I'll keep that in mind about ChatGPT, though the only time I asked it for some programming help (with Python), it gave a good suggestion but bad code.

      Is it possible you put the wrong rudder parts on? I think, for some reason, there were other parts that could also be rudder pieces, but those are the wrong one.
