You should look into giving to homeless shelters in your area for women. Instead of good will or the Salvation Army that’s what I always do.

BTW I don't feel that your hard decisions to donate to others for free should be gone through by the workers of Salvation army or Goodwill b4 they put out the rest to be sold to people who can't barely afford it. You went through something on the video tonight to part with your items and that giving spirit should in my opinion be carried out to "give" to a special place that will "GIVE" to its final destination for " Free". Otherwise you could have sold it for a profit yourself for your needs around that beautiful new place you've been working so hard on making a home. 🙌 and ✌🏽 to you.

So proud of you! I struggle with clutter as well! It's a generational thing. Before I relocated and purchased my 🏠 in a different state I donated 120 bags of clothing, shoes, purses, hats etc to Purple Heart because I felt the exact same way about Good Will and Salvation Armory. If you have a Plato' s Closet in your area they will pay you cash for your clothing and shoes if they're in good condition. I also donated 10 bags to a women's shelter and just donated 20 more to a thrift store. It was like losing 20 lbs blessing someone else. Check Amazon for a closet system you can install or pay someone to do it.

Girllll....wow just wow. You did that and yes you should feel amazing that was a huge project. Letting go of clutter is hard especially when there are memories attached to it. Once you corral all the stuff you have in one area it lets you see how much you really have and helps to process letting the unnecessary stuff go. Great video!!!

I think it would be interesting if you could take down that separating wall in your master closet. It would really open the space up even more & allow the window to light the entire space & maybe you could put a sort of island in the middle with drawers for more storage for clothes, accessories etc. Or even put a nice large tufted seating piece in the middle or elsewhere in there for putting on shoes? Just a thought! You did a truly amazing job decluttering all of the clothes, shoes & other items! That was quite a feat & very inspiring!! I bet it feel amazing!

Glad you kept the emotional parts in! Decluttering is really emotional sometimes and at least you had a good reason. It’s important to make space in our lives, but do it in a way that feels good. If you have to make a small exception do it. I have a sweater that I used to steal from my grandmother every time I visited her, and then I would wash it and bring it back. And the last time that I stole it was the actual last time I would get to steal it, and I’m so glad I have it. It smells like her in the best way. I’ll never wash it or get rid of it. You’re doing the work and it’s not always easy, so congratulate yourself!

I am so happy you donated to the shelter as it was going to be my suggestion. I am very proud of you and even though the things associated with the past are gone, you still have the memories (for the ones worth remembering). Live free, be in the moment and when the time permits you will make new memories. BTW the closets look great. Just as the clutter WAS a representation of your inner struggles and clutter...take a look at you now. Go back and look at yourself after you dropped off the donations...you look lifted. You have inspired me and I am grateful. Be blessed Sis.

I'm only 8 minutes in but good for you for giving up the Christmas onesie. It was wonderful to see you work through your thought process and realize you were not saying goodbye to those memories or your loved ones by letting it go. It's so hard to have that kind of clarity when emotions are taking over. I've been on a decluttering journey for a year now and have let go of easily 75% or so of what I owned. Go easy on yourself and take your time. I can't wait to watch you progress through this process.

Ma’am you are not alone. Soooo many of us get emotionally attached to stuff. 🙋🏽‍♀️ My mother gave me a set of cheap blue glass dishes, nothing special. I never used them and kept them in a box in a closet. 🤦🏾‍♀️ She came to my house and saw the box and was upset I still had them at this point in my life. I kept those dishes in a box for about 10 years and never used them. When I placed that box in my donate pile I was literally holding back tears.WHY??🤷🏽‍♀️ Mind you I get rid of stuff ALL the time. It’s a running joke in my household regarding my purging obsession.

Girl we all have to declutter!!! I’m always in the decluttering stage, lol. When I’m depressed it’s totally out of control. Like you said it’s deeper than surface. We get attached to memories associated with things. Crying is normal💕💕. You’re not by yourself in that. Keep maybe one something. I love your closet to death. I need that space. It would help with my lack of seasonal storage. Books and papers accumulated quickly, books especially if you like to hold them. I donate to our apartment library. I am going through the same downsizing process. I did step 1 when I moved to a new city. Now, I am doing this seasonally. This process can be years to get to a place where you actually wear everything you own. Give yourself time and a break. You are doing great! A few tips I learned from others. Turn your hangers backwards. When you wear an item in a given season, turn it forward. You will see what was not worn. I add another step, forcing myself to wear the item, in season of course. I assess how I feel in it. Does it look good on me? Do I have multiple things to wear it with. Do I love other things more that I prefer. There is a reason you are not wearing something. Maybe it is no longer your style, even if it looks good on you. It should be easier to let it go. Good luck!

I’m in the process of decluttering my home too. In Charlotte, NC we have an organization called Crisis Assistance Ministry. They provide various services free of charge so I like to donate to their free store. This allows families to shop clothes, household items and furniture free. You should be able to contact the department of social services in your area to advise on if they can refer you to a similar organization. Battered women shelter was an amazing choice! Homeless shelters are also a great choice especially for clothes needed for work environments.

You did an amazing job!!! Good for you. It was sweet to see u hug your items like you said goodbye.
I’m glad you gave to the battered women shelter. I was going to recommend this place in Atlanta- hope house for domestic violence.
This was a beautiful process and now you have some peace!❤️

When you donate you are not giving away your memory you are giving to someone else who Doesn’t HAVE. Your memories are in your HEARTS AND MIND they will always be with YOU. Great JOB. Donate to a Shelter, orphanage or church.

I'm proud of you. I call it material memories. I love decluttering. I love the feeling of releasing. It not hard for me to get rid of things. I remind myself to keep some of my material memories.

Oh Sweetheart. Keep what makes you happy. I know that memories are in your heart and mind but after losing my Son over two years ago when he was only 22, I wish I'd saved more. You are awesome and you can do whatever you want to do. Stay Beautiful

Wow! I’m crying already and the video just started ~ I’m a super sensitive girl ~ watching you hold and embrace those items you needed to let go of really had me in my feelings ~ I am extremely proud of you for taking those difficult steps to de clutter ~ I too need to part ways with the things that no longer serve me and it will be a big part of my healing journey as well ~ I’m ready to focus on self love these days ~ Peace and Blessings ~ Love and Light 🦋 PS it is hard to let go of sentimental things ~ trust I know ~ just remember you’re not getting rid of your memories and or your family and friends ~ just the stuff ~ guess I better pick up some trash bags from the store to begin my purge of things 😉

I was actually going to suggest a battered women's shelter. I purge every 4 to 6 months or so. I actually just did a huge purge because l'm selling my home, (actually under contract) downsizing and moving across country. Awesome job Shanda!

Toss the yearbooks! I let mine go about 2 years ago and I wish I had done it sooner. I graduated in ‘04 and those books made many moves and a cross country journey and I never looked at them!

Girl it's been a while for me, I'm trying to catch up. Finally bought my house through NACA in December!!! But I'm a legging hoarder myself trying to patch them up until I cannot anymore, but they cannot come with me to the new house. My renovations are snail slow and I'm praying for a finish that makes it all worth it. Thank you for being such an inspiration because I now believe in myself to do some DIY projects, being grateful for you and all you share❤🦋

Bay BAY!!!! I thought it was just me! It’s not enough that I dominate all closets, but my master looks like yours and my guest bed looks similar to your laundry room. Clean & dried clothes piled high on the bed
    I think it’s a living single syndrome, BUT…
YOU GOT THIS & Thanks for the motivation ❤️

I use the Elfa system from the container store. They are modular and come in different finishes, and budget friendly. You can add as you go which is what I love about them.
