That mulch layer is so important when it comes to avocado trees. The quickest way to kill an avocado tree is to have bare ground under it. If you can find it near you, check out the Blue Ocean Seabird Guano. Smells like hell but it makes my Bacon avocado tree produce fruit like a super champ.

Thank you for that video; I hope the Mexicola Grande is thriving. Can you give us an update?
I live near Jacksonville, FL and have been experimenting with Mexicola Grande, Brogdon, James Bacon, Fuerte, Lila, and some Hass varieties, and am have concluded that it is really important to protect my trees in the winter using plant cloth over a PVC hoop structure with some incandescent lights underneath. I recommend checking out The Millennial Gardner’s videos on this. I believe he lives in coastal North Carolina and, like us, gets some occasional hard freezes on the wintertime.

    Nice! Very healthy tree!
@ 1:40 In one of his videos, Gary Matsuoka of Laguna Hills Nursery mentions NOT to put avocado tree near any citrus trees. The reason is that citrus flower honey is sweeter than that of avocado flowers, so bees flock to citrus trees to the detriment of pollination of avocado flowers.
