Many actresses who played cleopatra but elizabeth taylor is iconic of all.
And Richard Burton is one of the most handsome men I know
@@user-og2hz1nr2e I always felt he overacted, but he was good in this role
Agreed. Despite the fact that she disliked this film, she was superb
❤❤❤❤
The cinematography, costume designs, building structures, acting, dialogue and the story makes Cleopatra a cinematic masterpiece. It's in my Top 100 Favorite Movies of all time.
Yes, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton deserve special praise. For me so much of the film is carried on their shoulders. It helps ground the drama too so we don't get lost in all the elaborate sets. You have to be reminded its not a fantasy, this really happened.
The Netflix Cleopatra reminded me of this movie. It's 4 hours long and I wasn't bored for a minute. I don't know how historically accurate it is, but at least its makers never called it a documentary.
It’s pretty historically accurate. Cleopatra was Southeast European, so white, and Elizabeth Taylor is a Jewish/American actress, also white, and she could pass as Greek.
@@Angel_Auraa lol no, it is way more accurate than the netflix thing, but it is far from accurate. some of those constumes, the way cleopatra has her hair,... etc
@@Angel_Auraa Cleopatra was Macedonian-Greek.
It's pretty accurate I think, though we have Shakespeare to thank for making this story so well known.
Richard Burton was terrific in this, I loved him in Becket too.
When was it made?
Mom loved this movie. She was 29 when it came out. I was still five years away. We watched it every year when it came on TV. I think it was a Sunday event. The whole house stopped and watched it with mom.
Classic! Golden Age of movies.
I am going to watch this entire movie instead of the crap Netflix made
Bless your heart 😂
It's great. See Ben-Hur and Spartacus too if you haven't already.
White is better anyways
Believe you 😂❤
I would say that I guess the 1963 one looks better than the new Netflix one.
At the time when the movies were made with real extras and big sets
its crazy how much money was spent on this movie that it almost bankrupted 25th century fox.
@@ArtofLunatik with today money at least 350 to 400 million$ 💵💵😵😵
Moondog thats insane
@@ArtofLunatik buddy i made a research a couple months ago and the result was from 350 to 400 million $ of today
@@edenatlas7440 right back then was a huge deal
This classic masterpiece is properly advertised as an Epic Romantic Drama.... there's no pretense of it as documentary.
It was played by three acting legends.
Came here after Netflix trailer Cleopatra ☺️
Me too,
Me too 😂
This movie is more accurate than Netflix documental
Elizabeth Taylor could pass as Greek lady. Not sure why Egypt banned this movie. Doesn’t matter now, because they’re more angry at blackwashed Cleopatra. 😂
They made her looking like a joke cleopatra
This is how movies were made
By big heart and grand budget
Not
By cheap controversy
Disney should understand
you mean netflix
After I watched this movie I become obsessed with the story. As much as I’m curious about cleopatra and antony’s tomb, I hope they’ll never found it tho, let both of them rest in peace, their kids being paraded in gold chains by octavian was horrible enough.
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton deserve special praise. For me so much of the film is carried on their shoulders. It helps ground the drama too so we don't get lost in all the elaborate sets. You have to be reminded its not a fantasy, this really happened.
RIP Sir Rex Harrison (March 5, 1908 - June 2, 1990), aged 82
RIP Richard Burton (November 10, 1925 - August 5, 1984), aged 58
RIP Dame Elizabeth Taylor (February 27, 1932 - March 23, 2011), aged 79
You will be remembered as legends.
Taylor will never be forgotten. All the tiktok videos, with just her, will be why.
Movie star rex harrison
Pure movie stars 3 of them ❤
3 movie stars made Hollywood ❤
I realise that its just a short snippet but the chemistry between Rex Harrison and Elizabeth was much more natural than that between her and burton
Richard Burton was so annoying in the movie!
Burton's screen performances were always uneven, especially his early roles where he so overacted to the point of near hysteria that he was often exhausting to watch.
He was better later in his career, and his last movie role in Orwell's _1984_ was his best.
Taylor disliked _Cleopatra_ describing it as vulgar.
Disagree, I thought he was brilliant as a once proud man driven mad self-destructive love, the bit where he charges the roman cavalry is great.
@@splinterbyrdhave you seen him in Becket? He's superb in that movie..
i remember my mother made me sit throught this.all i cared about was to see the 20th century fox logo which i thought was random yet epic.then i went to sleep and woke up finding out there was still 2 hours and 20 minutes left
This movie was so expensive that, even though it was the highest grossing film of 1963, it still lost money. I heard that, if the budget were adjusted for inflation, it would still rank among the most expensive movies of all time.
$421 million in 2022 US dollars probably more in 2023.
Was gonna watch this whole thing til I realized the run time is over 5 hours lol
The one I found was 3 hour 40 mins

It's completely worth it! Even if you have to split it into two viewings, you must watch
There is a movie Cleopatra 1999 which is super underrated but if you ask me is better than this one it’s 2 hours
The initial version was way over 5 hours and it was supposed to be split in 2 movies. First one focusing on Cleopatra and Cesar and the second one on her and Antony. But the producers were afraid that Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton would separate by the time the second movie was in the theaters and affect its popularity since their love affair was the main thing that was attracting the public.
The movie director and the actors were appalled by this decision because they thought it absolutely downgraded the quality of the movie. E. Taylor said she went out and threw up when she saw the final cut at the premiere.
I liked the movie though. Give it a try.
Both Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton are fantastic in this film. That combined with the enermous production values make this extremely enjoyable viewing. Excellent film.
I’m so happy this is on Disney Plus now with their new star update
That's all great. But the shame is how people need to see it in a theater the way it was meant to be seen.
I have on dvd for all time
I first watched this when I was 11, my mom walked in and couldn’t believe I was watching voluntarily!
The most memorable film
A very important film in the history of the world.
Time and perspective has shown this film outlasted the critics and was an epic moment in cinema. The scale and talent is epic.
Cleopatra lived closer to the moon landing than to the construction of the pyramids.
When Cleopatra was born in 69 B.C., the pyramids which were constructed in 2560 B.C. had already been around for 2491 years.
The moon landing in 1969 happened just 2038 years after Cleopatra was born.
@@anthonycbrown1952yes this period had some great epics, Ben Hur, Quo Vadis?, Lawrence of Arabia, Helen of Troy, Cleopatra, The Vikings. It all just got too expensive though I think, the big studio systems collapsed by it allowed new younger film-makers to emerge like Martin Scorses, George Lucas, Steven Speilberg.
My All time favorite movie wonderful superb great. Elizabeth Taylor
Any link?
Cleopatra was in love with one of Europe's greatest warriors
Yes Ceasar
@@SoloTravelerOffTheBeatenPath You do know Kleopatra lived more than two and a half centuries after Alexander? And that they weren’t related?

Because white people are best. 😁

But not related 🤦
Happy 60th Anniversary, Cleopatra.
She's beauuuutiful❤❤

Netflix must despise this movie 😅
😂
I wonder if those actors kiss the same way in real life or why on earth would they kiss like that on camera
yes, probably they kiss in RL in the same way. But in the movies they do it mechanically, without any feeling more than make sure this is a credible kiss for the romantic scene. It´s part of their play, all fake.
Its a romantic movie scene, obviously it's exaggerated, like other movies🙄🙄.
They kissed this way because during the time they made this film the "Movie Ratings" were done differently. Unlike today where everything is oversexualized, they didn't allow it on films then.
Thinking back, this was around the time of "Leave it to beaver & Lucy" days, they didn't even air television shows with a man and woman in the same bed, it was 2 separate beds on film.
Right? I love old movies, hate old movie kisses lmao
@@TerryJayTV this is the right answer. I don't know what the others are.
The most Magnificent Feast for the eyes ! No computerized BS. REAL SETS and EXTRAS. TAYLOR at her most beautiful. Real romance on the real screen. A Masterpiece of a music score. Holds up even today as a true EPIC MASTERPIECE ! Could you tell I liked it ? Many say CLEOPATRA was black (fact IS she was GREEK). Some say CLEOPATRA DIDN'T look like her. CLEOPATRA had a reputation of being the most beautiful, seductive woman at that time. If you're doing a film of her, you get THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, SEDUCTIVE ACTRESS to portray her. Get it ? Richard Burton was nominated in 1954 for BEST ACTOR in "THE ROBE". He is far superior in this film and should have received an Oscar Nomination for Best Actor.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💙💙💙💙
Netflix no la vio no? jajajaja Hacen una Cleopatra NEGRA!!!!!
Epic trailer!!!!
I needed that for my biography project at school ❤❤❤❤❤
If it hadn't won so many awards and hadn't been such a box-office smash, "Cleopatra" would have definitely gone down in history as the film that drove 20th-Century Fox into the ground. It nearly happened, due to so many added expenses, production delays, uncooperative weather, and not the least, the Taylor-Burton affair. But to see Liz's triumphal entrance into Rome, you forget about all that. It's magnificent.
I have seen this movie 34,563 times.
I wish they'd find the other parts of the movie 😔, I don't care if I have to sit 8 hours if I can watch the best film out there.
Roddy McDowell spent years trying to find it and never succeeded.
Its first release on TV about 195 mins in the 70s...and a new cut with many deleted scenes for mini series on TV in the 90s....very interesting but hard to find anywhere.
Love Cleopatra. Love Egypt
This trailer seems as long as the actual flick. If seeing Liz in all of her draped or undraped glory is an interest, this is your movie.
The time when the orchestra was exhausted more than anyone
HA 😂
You imagine editing this film 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂 funny as hell
Luv it!
This year I feel like watching the old movies and I found this. Omg when I saw it was 4 hours I almost stopped 😆 but I finished it
And was lt whort it (honesty)?
I think is so different to the real Cleopatra that l'm not sure yet l really wanna spend that long...
I apreciated an advice 😃

fantastic movie 10/10
Good movie good picture I like it and free Basically I learn Cleopatra historie.
Netflix ?????😭😭😭😭
Classic
Elizabeth Taylor is the only actress who played Cleopatra as a Queen. All the others played her as a princess. That's why she's so everlasting. Another one who might have played her as a queen migth've been Theda Bara. To give you an idea of how big Elizabeth Taylor was at that time: she and Marilyn Monroe were both at Fox Studios at the same time. Marilyn was filming her last film as ELizabeth was filming Cleopatra. Marilyn got 100k for the movie, while Taylor got USD 1.000.000 for Cleo. Monroe died in a very tragic and marketeable way. Elizabeth didn't.
This was very disrespectful to the memory of Marilyn Monroe who was very abused by the men the industry and to this day the media. She might not have been a great actress as Taylor but she's surely an iconic figure
great movie
Cleopatra before blackwadhing. LoL
It Look More Realistic than Any other movie!!
Esto si que es una reina.vaya mujer y reina irrepetible para la historia.y su amor hasta la muerte por Marco Antonio.
Hoyes tines Mucha razon.
One of the last great movies from an era when every penny of the budget was on the screen for all to see...
damn you netflix you had one job

I'm Egyptian, A COPTIC CHRISTIAN EGYPTIAN, I shout that out loud because we are the most pure blooded Egyptians out there and that's not only my opinion that's what Egyptologists, Historians and Scientists also agreed on , and I tell you that every word that Bassem Youssef said is right and I totally agree with him.
Yes Egypt had lots of mixed cultures throughout its history like for example: Greeks, Romans and Arabs, but the Egyptian blood didn't mix and change that much and that's because for centuries we Egyptians had a golden tradition rule to marry our cousins, and that tradition is still present until now especially in Upper Egypt(from Assiut to Aswan), Although that tradition seems silly and bad from a scientific biological point of view, but that doesn't matter, silly or not we kept that tradition of marrying our cousins for centuries and that helped us to preserve our pure Egyptian blood not mixed as long as we could, and the result is what you see now and that is Modern Egyptians looks typical to their Ancient Egyptian Ancestors, just look at my skin color and Bassem Youssef's skin color we are almost the same although he is a Muslim who was born and lived in Cairo and I am a Coptic Christian who was born and lived in Luxor and there is almost a 1000 km distance between us, doesn't that tell you a thing or two about who Ancient Egyptians were and what they looked like?
With all due respect for all the Black people and all the other ethnicities out there, but we Egyptians are special very special, WE ARE NOT Black or White or Yellow, Not Europeans or Africans or Asians, Not Assyrians or Persians or Israelites or Nubians or Greeks or Romans or Arabs or French or Italians or Germans or British or Turkish or Ukrainians, Not Middle Easterners or Caucasians or Mediterraneans or Levants or Amazigh or Berbers or even North Africans.
WE ARE
EGYPTIANS,
WE ARE
VERY UNIQUE!
Ok

Wasn't Bercelluci born in 1964, a year after this film was released?
They also had to stop Marilyn from working 😊
It can't be worse than the Netflx disaster. Rewriting history is only fun if you do it in style.
