She was a horrible actress in all seasons but the last one. By then, she’d finally learned.
She sure didn’t get hired because of her good acting skills. Dan & David fell in love with her looks and smile and had to persuade the HBO-people. They’ve even admitted that in interviews!

Anna A Emilia was *not* horrible, she played Daenerys much in the way the book describes her. She played Daenerys as stoic, refrained, and dignified (which is obviously not Emilia’s personal character), and had to register a lot of emotions through her eyes and face. Haters who think you have to overact to be “acting” just whine she was cast for her looks. Emilia became the Mother of Dragons, and your opinion does nothing to diminish this for millions of other people.

She and her character will be remembered for a long time, when the winners will be long forgotten. The same happened to shows like Buffy whose actors were always snubbed at award shows because of the bias against fantasy.

The problem is that everybody treats the controversy issue as if it's not even an issue, as if it is somewhat rude of the journalist to pose such a question. I mean, of course they loved their job and why wouldn't they, it's the offspring of their effort and passion, of course they would support the choices of Benioff and Weiss, they 're their friends and colleagues. But yet again, the audience was disappointed. And that's a fact. And that didn't happen because their feelings for the show made them want a specific ending, it happened because the story was rushed and at some places odd when it really didn't have to be. All these years the cast and crew supported the positive reaction of the audience and cherished their adoration but when that reaction wasn't that positive anymore they decided to make excuses for no apparent reason. Game of thrones was an amazing show. Season 8 was amazing, compared to mainstream tv. But compared to the show itself, it was a letdown. And while the cast achieved their ultimate acting potential, while the crew managed to pull off the hardest and most demanding of circumstances, the story itself betrayed all of them.

      @Andreas Giannaras I couldn’t agree more!
And I lost interest in rewatching GOT, just because of how the actors and D&D handled the critic afterwords. I kind of lost respect for them.
If only they had been humble and showed that at least they _listened_ to what their devoted fans told them. If only they had expressed some sort of regret, or at least explained how they were thinking and why they made the choices they made. That would have gotten me back on their side again, I think. That would have shown they respect their fans.
But they didn’t. They disqualified the show’s fans’ opinions and emotions by ignoring them completely. Makes me feel ”betrayed”. A let down.

@@travismartin4863 Just, fuck off. Please just fuck off. If you actually thought that this season was good, I truly think you're being paid to type this. Did you hit your head hard against something? Cause don't even TRY to say that this season was on par to the last 7 seasons.
In this season, we have seen characters act out of ways so inconsistent with how they have previously, it's baffling. We saw the Character assassinations of Daenerys Targaryen, Jamie Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Varys, Cersei Lannister and Jon Snow In one swift blow. With the latter two being SIDELINED in their own stories. We have seen the plot get beat and defiled so beyond recognition. The show lost its own plot when they decided to destroy the same being that was supposed be the doom of humanity and destroy everything after thousands of years of trying to get by the wall with a formidable force. And apparently the 'Big Bad' of this show was more important than this magical being that planned to destroy EVERYTHING! And even that route went to SHIT since the big bad ended up dying in her lovers arms under rubble. After 7 seasons of being the biggest BITCH in Westeros, she gets killed with BRICKS! Plot Armor was jacked to bullshiittery even though we literally saw about 15 instances in which characters would've been killed in the first 6 Seasons. We got bullshit comments such as "Dany kinda forgot about the Iron Fleet" even though she was in the air and she would've saw them from a mile away. And no don't even start with the whole foreshadowing thing with Dany because that is BULLSHIT! Stop defending these hacks, they defiled this story so hard that it should be criminal. We didn't lose touch with the story, the SHOW did. It lost touch of its own rules, plots and Character's. This anger doesn't stem from just no where.

      @@travismartin4863 Oh dear...
This wasn't a Biography, it was facts.
If you actually believe that this was how it was all meant to be, I think you've been taken hostage and are being forced to write this. But since you're giving me no choice, I have to do it...
FORESHADOWING IS *NOT* STORYTELLING OR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.
It's a simple fact. You can foreshadow a number of things, but it doesn't equal Character Development in the terms of ANY of the Characters in this show.
Who should I start off with, Dany or Jamie?
I'll just start with Jamie, cause it's easier.
Jamie Lannister, son of Tywin Lannister, and commonly referred to as the Kingslayer because he betrayed his oath to save the Kingdom was fucked over entirely. He starts off as this arrogant sister-fucker that we're all supposed to hate because of his audacity to openly defy 'good' people like Ned Stark and kill children. He was an Antagonist to us. Perhaps the first one in this show other than Viserys in our eyes. And over the Last few seasons, he begins to grow past his entire "Lannister only matter" motto that his Father implanted in his head. It's when he meets people like Brianne that we understand that Jamie truly has a good heart. That he has a sense of Honor and will risk his life and reputation for innocence as evidenced in the hot tub scene in S3 where he Reveals what was really going through his head when he killed the King. It wasn't out of selfishness, or for his family, it was because he couldn't allow more innocence to die at the hands of the King. And after spending years as being Cersei's little puppet, he grows away from her, because each adventure he takes, he meets people and understands them. And does his best to prove them wrong about him being dishonorable. His ENTIRE plot has been about building away from Cersei and take on a new life where he is in control. So all of his Development was FUCKED when he backtracked on all of his ideals to return to a monster like Cersei, after knowing all the monstrous acts she has committed, just because he had to. And to die the world's most flaccid death with his bitch of a sister. Just because he said ONE line in the past doesn't uphold to this. People CHANGE, and when he said this line, he was still under Cersei's grasp, and was still her puppet. He never would've said this line in Season 7 AT ALL after realizing everything she has done. So when he returned to Cersei, it ruined all the character development he once had. He only turned back to his family in the end. And it destroyed the journey he endured in the last 7 Seasons, proving to be the BIGGEST dissappoinment of this season.

@@travismartin4863 And here we go, it's time to deal with Daenerys.
First of all, if you truly believe that this is the Real Dany, then YOU have missed the point of the show.
Dany started off as a piece of meat that was sold to a vicious War Lord in exchange for an Army by her brother. And before that she was practically living on the streets with her abusive brother after their family was murdered and they were kicked out of their home. She got RAPED, and had to resort to seducing her husband with sex to make living bearable because she was on the verge. She eventually found a way to love him, and conceived a son. This was the first time in her life where she was truly happy. She had a family, she had love. But she was too trusting, and in a matter of a few days she lost EVERYTHING. And she resorted to using blood magic as a way to hatch her Dragon eggs, and she successfully did, and arose with the world's first dragons in centuries.
When Dany took the Unsullied and Sacked Astapor to save the slaves, she had the army she needed to invade Westeros. When she was offered riches to buy ships to sail, she REFUSED. Let me remind you, she was offered EVERYTHING she needed to take back the throne, and she DELAYED it all. Why? So she could set all the slaves in chains free. Saving innocence slaves was a goal that proceeded her own intentions to take the throne, and she did so thoughtfully.
Dany is a girl in a Medieval world where the intelligence of Women is underestimated and they are treated like shit. Dany's entire storyline evolved around Asserting her own power, but saving innocent people since no one else cares to look out for the small folk in the slightest. She has a dark side to her and she can be ruthlessness, but up until Season 8 Episode 5, she NEVER killed an innocent person. Every person she killed has always been a direct threat to her or her people. The show definitely set up a ruthless side to Dany, but that doesn't make her mad by any means.
The word 'mad' had been used in this show to define people as horrible killers at this point. But if Dany is called Mad because she killed people in the past, this word needs to be applied to EVERYONE in this show.
Arya killed and baked two sons into a pie, fed them to their father and cut his throat, and almost immediately murdered an entire house as revenge for her family. How is this not mad? Dany has enacted vengeance to Mirri and the Slave Masters for betraying her and gets called mad for taking revenge, yet Arya isn't?
They say that she was mad because she emotionlessly watched her brother die. Ummmm, so did y'all forget how much of an Abusive shit he was to Dany? He beat her and defiled her multiple times, and then he threatens to kill her baby. It's natural, but apparently acting all cold to the death of you're abuser is a BAAAADDD thing. So let's talk about Sansa who walked away SMILING as she listened to Ramsey getting teared to death by his dogs. Why was this not an indicator that Sansa is mad because she enjoys listening to her enemies screams after he raped her, but Dany is mad because she watched her abusive brother die. Holding character to a fucked up double Standard is dumb. You can't call Dany mad and not call everyone else mad.
And don't get me started on the whole, "she was a Targaryen and destined to go mad." Have you ever really looked at the Targaryen liniage? In the 300 years that the Targaryen's have been inbreeding, only five, FIVE Targaryen's are recorded as going full on mad. And the Targaryen family has been through HUNDREDS of generations. The whole "coin toss" saying is so contrived and such a misused analogy about the Targaryen. The Targaryen's rarely had Mad Ruler's. And people always blame the incest for it, but MANY factors play into the madness of these Kings. My best example is of Dany's Father. Aerys Targaryen, or the Mad King. He started off as a good man and gentle hearted man. But he began growing Jealous of Tywin's influence and caused a drift between him and Tywin. It wasn't until after Aerys was captured in Duskendale that he went mad. His Paranoia increased and his fondness in fire gave him great pleasure in burning people. Hell, each time he burned someone, he's brutally Raped his own Queen/Sister.
Dany has lost people in the past, but she NEVER took it out on Innocence. She took it out on her enemies, and when those two dumb hacks you're defending made her go mad, they destroyed what was otherwise one of the most compassionate and moral Ruler's of this show.
Fuck off with the whole "if you think this is gonna be a happy ending, then you haven't been paying attention." The Stark's got a goddamn good happy ending. Arya gets what she wants, Bran is King and Sansa is Queen in the North. By definition, they got a Happy end. Stop trying to defend the writing, cause it isn't working.
And as this interview saw it, George didn't even come up with this. It was ALL D&D. So they fucked it up MAJOR and ruined George's Character's simply for Star Wars.

because it ended poorly. i imagine it's because they were forced to complete the seasons, but they didn't have the source material to continue. that's why the beginning was so good and the ending is so bad. you can't really say they're bad writers or something if they were heavily relying on original material from the writer of the books. that's going to look so good, and the last few seasons are going to be the average tv show quality.

Because they realized they had a gigantic opportunity to make television history and leave it as their legacy on TV before moving onto the big screen with Star Wars, yet they squandered that and possibily ruined their reputation as well because anything with their names on it is gonna remind people what they've done with the biggest phenomenon on television.
Also, HBO might be pissed at them because they planned on making spin offs of the show, prequels sequels and other bunch of shit yet no one cares anymore. They ruined HBO's business plan of milking A Song of Ice and Fire for all it's worth.

Very disrespectful to the millions of fans that they disappointed with a very nonsensical haphazard poorly written final season. Just to clarify, most fans were not disappointed with the 'WHAT happened', story-wise or the actors/crew performances, it was the WAY it happened making no logical sense at all, that really pissed people off. All of those people choosing to name Bran the King at the end, made no sense because most of them had no reason to want him as king. Bran allowing Sansa to be be queen of the North when he is technically the liege lord of every noble in the North, makes no sense! Danearys killing all the civilians in Kings Landing right after the army gave up and she didn't need to, when she had spent the entire show fighting for and saving peasants and slaves, makes no sense! Jon and Dany not immediately deciding to share the throne with Jon allowing Dany to rule, since he has no ambition to rule anyways, makes no sense! All the Dothraki being killed in the first battle then reappearing miraculously TWICE, makes no sense! The unsullied not immediately killing Jon when he was found with Dany, makes no sense! Drogon not immediately killing Jon when he was found with Dany, makes no sense! Maybe some or all of these things actually will happen in the books if they are ever finished, but I guarantee you that the WAY they happen will make a hell of a lot MORE SENSE!

No, I don’t think Game of Thrones should’ve won the Best Drama Award. The award was for this year and this year alone. It wasn’t for all 8 seasons. The last two episodes of the series ruined this whole show which cost around $50 million per year to make. It wasn’t the bad writing or directing. It was the way they turned the show like a Crazy Ivan. They just wanted to give us an ending which we didn’t see coming, just to make themselves feel superior and self-congratulating themselves. So no, the twist ending was not good. The traditional ending would’ve been much much better because the whole series was excellent up to that point. The traditional ending being Danny and Jon getting the throne. There was nothing wrong with that. So they had done a good job for all the seasons and each season did have its surprises, but the stupid ending surprise should not have happened. It ruined 9 years of excellency.
To see DxD healthy and neat was all the more frustrating. I thought they would be too embarrassed to show their face in public for at least a year. It seems that they have surrounded themselves with people who worship them and are in denial. They are congratulating themselves believing they are the best because they are in their own little world. The worst is this show will be nominated again for the Golden Globes!! Not looking forward to that.

I think you are wrong about them wanting to give us a surprise ending. All the foreshadowing from the books seem point to the same ending as the show. The main problem with the last 2 seasons was that the story was too rushed. Emilia turning into an antagonist makes a lot of sense, just not over the course of a couple episodes.

I don't think the controversy was ever about Dany going all mad queen, that was always there.
That's the problem with the media and frankly the cast not getting it. What upset fans was the break neck pace, the lazy writing and the lack of character development or the contradiction in character arches. They deviated so much after they caught up to the books that they took so many of the characters off into different directions and then lazily did last minute 180s or devolved them completely.
Unfortunately Benioff and Weiss or the media will never understand what true fans of the books and the series were upset about. Tyrion and Varys becoming morons. Jaime's character going through this complete Transformation only to go back to season one's jaime.
Pulling Danys character away from that of the mad queen and snap throw her back in the span of a single episode. Spend years building up the Dark night then have it be nothing but a blip on the radar and a relatively inconsequential event.
The writing and the pace did the fans dirty. The Actors as always in their 10 year journey were truly amazing. The crew created a visually stunning spectacle.
But fans will always feel like Benioff and Weiss woke up one morning and decided "We're over this" and just slapped a "The End" graphic on it.
It's like listening to someone read half of the sleeping beauty realizing it's bedtime and saying so she pricks her finger falls asleep prince wakes her with a kiss and everyone lives happily ever after THE END. Oh yeah and there was like a dragon a fight and the evil queen gets killed... good night.

Insane that people think a hard working crew is automatically supposed to make an audience love and appreciate a show or product. That logic never felt right to me. A show has to be satisfying, Kit, it doesn't matter how hard you people worked. Your work is paid for with money, but the product can still fail even with hard work behind it and you gotta just acknowledge that for the sake of future improvement in the field. The current global mindset of normalizing that hard work is all that is needed will be every field's failure. @tulip19710226 I’ve been thinking the same thing. George RR said ”yes” to let them make a series out of his books. He had a responsability to finish the books before the show caught up. He was the only man who could have known if he was up for that task or not. He didn’t know himself well enough, obviously. Too slow of a writer.
      That’s actually not Dan & David’s fault.
What should they have done with season 7 and 8?! Stopped shooting, waiting for George to finish writing? That could have taken years. The actors would have changed their looks, and besides, they couldn’t just let the crew and actors hang around waiting, could they?
It would have limited the crew’s and actors’ possibilities to accept other offers of shows / movies. They would have had to pay them their ”market value price” during that waiting period as well. Impossible of course.
So, George RR Martin is the reason seasons 7 and 8 turned out the way they did. David & Dan have never claimed they are as good writers of Game of Thrones as G RR M. But they can’t talk about all this publically, because of their loyalty to GRRM.

The actors and the characters they portray ARE the show, they deserve awards for the show winning Best Drama just as much as the people behind the scenes. It feels so wrong seeing everyone with the gold but the amazing cast (Peter Dinklage not included).

They were all laughing when they were asked if it was really Aria who’s gonna kill the night king because it’s really not her. They need like 2 more seasons for the entire arc of the Night king and white walkers. I mean come on. The high sparrow was in like 2 seasons and the night king was easily killed after a few appearances on the season finale!

it's like Dan&Dave were afraid of the questions...
waiting for someone to call them out on the shitty writing of the last season and not having an excuse to justify their choices.

Cast, Crew... Literally everyone but D&D awesome job! you deserve ALL the recognition and praise. D&D, buzz off. If I hear you talk about how much you're going to celebrate and get drunk (basically what you did while writing your scripts), Ima lose it! This show will age just about as great as season 8 did the first time. It was trash!!

Why was that the last question?! They should have at least be respectful and professional to the actors. I feel sad for all of them, really. They worked hard for this show, even if it wasn't a good ending for many. 😢
