Greetings, everyone. This is "Symphonic Études (Op. 13)", one of the most difficult works by Schumann. It's a spectacular masterpiece starting from heavy and solemn theme, followed by several variations, and ending with forceful and lilting finale. This "1852 version" is the last revision by Schumann; the full version including posthumous variations and original Études will be recorded in a studio. It is also one of the pieces I practiced in the military, and personally this is the most formidable pieces I've ever played. Thank you for listening to my humble performance. 0:01 Theme 1:38 Var.1 2:45 Var.2 5:45 Var.3 6:49 Var.4 8:04 Var.5 8:57 Var.6 10:11 Var.7 12:54 Var.8 14:11 Var.9 16:58 Finale
So happy that you recorded this piece, it sounds great! And for something that is this long and difficult, what a feat it is to record so accurately in one sitting. Many great pianists will not do that, plus the mental energy it takes. I am hoping to see more Schumann in the future! I am trying to learn the Schumann Fantasy myself.
@@seonyonghwang Op.6 to me would be the hardest musically. Kreisleriana is also a massive artistic challenge, both are over 30 minutes and contain so many ideas.
Since it's the 1852 version, it can't be helped that Etude III and Etude IX are omitted, or maybe it's normal, but I didn't want the omission of fisis in Bar 4 in Ver.2 = 3:05 & 3:47

My God! What a luminous finale! I understand now what this piece has a Symphonic adjective in its title. The piano certainly sounds like an orchestra here. It's a pity the piece isn't that well known. I got to admit, I wasn't that much familiar with it, until I've listened to it attentively today, performed by you. Now I'm certain it's one of my favorite pieces of the Romantic period. Thank you.

Well...I gave you a 'like' because this is probably my favorite Schumann piano work and I'd probably enjoy listening to it even if performed by a saxophone quartet, but....I'm afraid I thought this didn't live up to your standards. It sounds just-learned to me, lacking polish in terms of phrasing, dynamics, pedaling, even notes in some spots. This piece done well is MAGIC, but I thought this performance was just good. EDIT: Well I think I have to eat my words. After listening to your other recording of this (with the posthumous variations), It's apparent that much of what I was missing was due to the piano and the recording than to your actual playing. @victorus3160, if you want a recommendation, I highly recommend that recently uploaded version. The cleaner sound (less reverb) and warmer Yamaha sound make all the difference. (And I never thought I'd be using the term "warmer" when writing about a Yamaha!)
Do you have some interpretations to recommand? Because except var 7 I really did like this one (I never listened to Schumann, shame on me). And if you'd like to share other Schumann's piece with your favorite interpretations, I'm all eyes!
@@ArtenixBlack nah, I don’t think it would be good form to suggest one pianist’s performance on another’s video! But I'd understand! There is no problem to judge the performance (but you know, when I see the amount of work behind this kind of video, I just can't write something like "okay, it is good but not well, I heard better by some world-wide known pianist") but when I see many comments only write about how there is better, while my self could never reach his piano skills...
