It is one of his late piano works and one of his most experimental ones as it depicts the dazzling meditative quality of the giant water fountains located in the gardens of la Villa d'Este, Switzerland: ruclips.net/video/2mKqwA6J5lE/видео.html (Claudio Arrau was taught by one of Liszt's pupils) This was also the piece that inspired Ravel to compose his own Jeux d'eau and also borrow ideas for his Ondine from Gaspard de la Nuit.
