The making of Godfather is a great story in its own right. It was a coming of age story of a young man going up against the suits with the Gucci shoes and holding his own.
Such a mensch. I love how his friend reminded him to use a formula that had already worked for him. And Coppola listened. Sophia is a very lucky woman to have had him as a mentor AND a father.
Never realized how funny and interesting FFC was until I heard this. Great storyteller with a memory for detail. love his imitation of Marlon Brando. That was unexpected. So was the comment that Talia was "too beautiful for the part". Oh. Was she? According to producer Robert Evans, the editor, production manager and assistant director tried to sabotage the movie to get rid of Coppola. They wanted the editor to direct the movie instead thinking it would be easy to remove FFC because he was new and had no clout. They cooked up a plan to tell the studio that Coppola was ruining the movie and it was a mess. After Evans ordered some dailies to watch himself, he fired the dishonest mutineers and kept Coppola. ( As Evans tells it anyway ;). What FFC says at 1:46:10 seems to reiterate the point that Evans wanted the movie as is, too long or not.
Sounds more like a therapy session for Coppola (not that that's a bad thing)..still processing the hell he went through with Bob Evans and the studio in making this movie and knowing now, as with the rest of us, that he is more than vindicated
One of the best commentaries ever over a movie. But I'm a GF freak, so I'm biased. You learn so much from Francis as you watch the movie.
I agree completely plus he's such a nice man. He likes himself and people you can tell.
Finally explained to some maniacs..... " This is not the case of a prince speaking......"
@tonyd7601
According to Nathan Forrest Winters, he's not "such a nice man".

Coppola is a treasure.
2:46:10 wouldn't have to of taken out in the first place, because of him. Francis knew what he was doing.
I DID NOT CARE FOR THE GODFATHER - Peter

Biased opinion when it comes to Talia, maybe?
IF YOU WANT MORE PEOPLE TO WATCH THIS AND TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY THEN SPELL THE NAME OF THE FILM CORRECTLY, "GODFATHER," IN THE TITLE
Amazing - it makes me really love Copolla - I honestly had him down as a Orson Welles, or Kubrick arrogance. He's nothing of the sort.
2:37:18 That adorable

Thanks for posting. Any chance of getting part ii?
It should show the actual footages to match what Francis explained
It would be taken down.
I have the DVD set of all 3 films and the commentaries are in it.
