Closed Airport Terminal Experience - Zurich Airport Behind The Scenes

- I visited Zurich Airport and explored the airport with 2 public tours. My first tour started at the recently opened observation deck. I went on the bus tour that shows you around the entire Zurich Airport, with a stop at the intersection of the runways for some close-up plane action.
Then I joined the behind-the-scenes airport tour, walking around the ramp with my excellent guide Rene explaining the airport operations in detail. We saw the latest Qatar Airways A350 arriving at its gate. Within minutes, the ramp sprang into action with loading and unloading activities.
Then, we went to an empty mid-field terminal E; this terminal has been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a bizarre experience to walk through the entire terminal in total silence. Next, we went to see the baggage belt system, checking out how the bags are delivered to each airplane. The tour gave a rare insight into the Zurich Airport operation. I was amazed at how open Zurich Airport is with these excellently run public tours.

It's great to see the observation deck has opened again in Zurich and the airport offer many cool behind the scenes tours to the public. ZRH Airport set a great example for many other airports to follow in developing general public's interest in aviation. Hope to see ZRH in better times ahead!

I threw bags for Continental 20 years ago, and yes ...people overpack I would grab a handle and it would come off in my hand.... one night I was emptying a 737, grabbed the handle, it breaks off, I rear back and hit the door and knocked myself out.... overweight bag...

You nailed it. Zurich has the BEST plane-sporting environment…set against snow capped peaks. Awesome.

Scott Roth TXL will be closed in a couple of weeks. Air France sent me an email that they are selling seats for the last flight from TXL to CDG. No idea if this is flying blue exclusive... Actually AF was the first airline to land at TXL in 1960... I would go, but both are now risk areas.
the bus tour and getting to watch planes land and take off at such close range ...wow!...I can imagine the thrill and satisfaction
Meanwhile in Belgrade, Serbia, the airport security or the police will either chase you away or maybe even arrest you and keep you locked in overnight if they see you filming and taking photos of the planes anywhere around the airport. As an aviation enthusiast, that gives me one more reason to stay in love with Zürich.
Sad to see my home base ZRH airport that empty- but happy to see the great Swiss visitor concept & hospitality!

I was on a Swiss flight in 2018 that was delayed 4 hours on top of a planned 3 hour layover. We spent all 7/8 hours in Concourse E on the way from Rome (FCO) to New York (EWR). It was a late flight, but I've never seen that terminal as empty as it was in your video. I miss flying and hope we can travel again soon, I'll never complain about being stuck in Terminal E of Zurich for 7 hours ever again.

Zurich-Kloten is a fantastic airport. Have been through it a few times on the way to east Africa. Would use is as a base arrival and departure point from the U.S. again anytime far superior to the more crowded hubs such as LHR or FRA.
Yes, the Dock E was doing much better when you flew first class to HKG. But things will come back to normal and there will be again 100% action from the observation deck B/D and runway cross 28, famous places @zrh already popular 25 years ago!!! Thanks for your reports!

All these airports are facing a crisis that is scary all because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are all in this together, opening airports and letting the storage planes out. Hats off to all aviation workers working during the pandemic to make flights and the airport in general safe. 🎩
Munich Airport has the bus tour of the aeroport as well. My most memorable was a special bus tour during the new Lufthansa livery tour in February 2018. Never in my life had I seen the 747-8i in its new livery up sooooooo close and heard the four engines rumbling!

Absolutely love the Zurich airport! Never knew there was a bus tour you can take and stand between the runways. Mostly go there and spend time in the Swiss Lounge which also has a beautiful outdoor observation deck.
Thank being said, this is more crowded then I normally see ZRH whenever I land there in the morning from the US.

I was just at the same terminal (Concorse E) in 2017. I didn't had time to check out the Obversation deck because i went outside of the airport to enjoy the rest of my day there. My flight was on borad an Air Canada A330 regestration C-GFAF from Toronto to Zurch. Crazy to see the terminal so empty during a time like this.
The bgm of closed terminal really makes me scared. Just like I was watching a scary movie
