- How to get the perfect picture from your jailbroken Playstation 2? Do you know that there is a way to play the games on your playstation 2 in 1080? Watch this.
In order to achieve a really clear image you need to use some expensive hardware upscalers, but in this video, I will show you how to upscale the resolution from your PS2 up to 1080 without these expenses. The only thing that you need is a modchip (modbo , matrix ...) or jailbreak ps2.

The games with native 1080i support on PS2 are four, not five. They are: Jackass The Game, Valkyrie Profile Silmeria, Gran Turismo 4 and Tourist Trophy. Every other game that supports progressive scan can do just 480p, including the four games mentioned before. No PS2 game could do 720p natively nor the console itself was built with that feature.
The PS2 can render 720p. There's a homebrew tech demo rendering a spinning teapot in 720p.

There was a page that told that the PS2 can do a maximum output of 1280x1024 but i never saw any single game not even the PS2 bios to run at that res even in interlaced.
I think the only way to force the PS2 to run at more than 640x480 would be via assembly and a not so demanding game like Pacman, lol.

When I tried GSM, just one of 5 games actually worked. The others would have graphical issues or even crash with any GSM resolution enabled. :(
But I got an component cable and this really worked wonders! It took the PS2 from an terrible image that has always been an ugly blurry soup to a new level!

Yeah on the video I cant see diffrence either but when I play in 1080i it looks better than native resolution.
I always use gsm, it usually gives me very good results, usually the games that don't look so good are the first generation ps2 games.
I have a sizable PAL physical collection so GSM 1080i is a no go for me because it forces 60Hz. On the other hand, all my ISOs are NTSC-U exactly so I could process them through GSM without an issue.
There's another option to run opl without a memory card or HDD, for Slim models which is FreeDVDBoot, basically FreeMCBoot but in a disc, and you can put all the programs in a USB and execute them from there

Im pretty sure freedvdboot is so that you can make your own freemcboot memory card
Why would you want to use a drive thats slower and can skip, moving parts means it'll age faster
What is even better, and no one talks about it, is just to use PAL version game wich is 576i. Some of them are upscaled from 48`i, those are garbage, but the rest of them kicks 480i to 1080i upscaling any day!
Still remember The Getaway has the 576i native mode, very amazing.
@pkers07 I have EU/US/JP version of Getaway, and TBH it's gameplay has a lot to be improved, I did beat that game, but it was indeed torturing!

almost all of the ps2 pal games can take the GSM 1080i "upsclae" without any video isues, but still 576p is still the best in any case at PAL
The problem with upscaling 576i games, is game speed. you will get 60hz instead of 50, wich results in a noticeable speed change

The only issue with crt are some darker spots that looks better on modem TV's. Besides that, CRTs way better no doubt.

Well while i agree i only have a crt at my grandparents house (which is 100km+ away :p) plus i can't get one in my country like you could in America everyone here wants to sell them even for $10 i won't buy it plus where would you have room to store a big crt in a already crammed room

I think the PCSX2 is the best option to play the PS2 games in 1080p and for free..
Yeah any tutorial for like anything on ps2 if u go and try to do it it’s just a big headache and doesn’t work

No matter what you did or do, there is no one setup fit all games or one game till the end, all games must suffer from lag, sluggish, and slow motion or blue and green screen.
I did everything I could to make it work normal on SOCOM games but I couldn't succeed.
1080i is bad resolution (the image is flickering and blurry), for better quality use OPL_1047_DB-TA or OPL_1066_DB-TA for 1080p full resolution + PS2 component cable or PS2 to HDMI converter.

Hello, I personally use hdmi converter.
you need Y-Pb-Pr component cables (5x RCA) for 480p and higher - normal composite cables (3x RCA) have the worst quality and can only do 480i/576i
those dongle-type HDMI converters that plug directly into the PS2 AV port also use the Y-Pb-Pr signal
of course you need to set your PS2 to Y-Pb-Pr output as well or you may not get an image

No, there is a cheap hdmi converter thats sold. I dont know why he didnt go over that.

First time I have seen that, its usually the frame rate being increased that causes this problem.
I would prefer the 720o over the 576p ONLY IF it did not stretch the image.. that adds more jagged lines (unnecessary ones) and even my mcable cant properly heal them

same refers to the mclassic adapter - its best and only works in native progressive modes 480p or 527p --> 720p upscale is sometimes ok dependiing on the game, but better go as low as possible BUT always in prgressive scan, otherwise mclassic is absolutely useless
Please can you or some one in the godly comments section hel Me. It works for me untill I use opl to load ps1 games, the logo appears when i load the game but then i get a no signal from my tv. I then unplugged my ps2 to hdmi conector and used the old lead rgb and the game comes on the tv loaded and playing. Please how can I fix this so I dont have to switch leads. Many many thanks, i carnt find a fix for this ANY were?

PS2 only with 720p Settings and widescreen support since 2006, because PS2 attaches CRT TV, 4:3 is the same as before, PS1 mounts old CRT TV before 2003, to full widescreen support for PS2 mounted LED TV since 2006

Does this softmod do anything to better the input lag in HDTVs as a consequence of scaling up the image? Because if this gives you upscaling without the input lag and without the need to use a Framemeister, Retrotink or any other external device fro upscaling, then this is HUGE! RE:MARK do you know anything about this? Does anybody know the answer? Been doing a lot of research but so far nobody talks about input lag when talking about the Graphics Synthesizer Mode selector.

No, it doesn't. For games that support 480p/1080i (or can be forced to 480p via GSM) component cable will reduce input lag. Also switch your TV to game mode, it also might help to reduce input lag.
1080i (interlaced) is like 360p
Even 480p (progressive) looks better
And u didn’t mention only Us versions have 480p support (yes even enabling it with gsm it needs a us version, like san andreas us vs euro
Us version keeps screen normal in 480p, and euro version shrinks the screen and is laggy in 480p)

i have a large TV and when ever i force 1080i or 480P the signal doesn't fill my TV anymore it smaller, but it does fill the screen on native resolution btw I'm not talking about aspect ratio, Any idea how to fill the screen with forced resolution just like native?

It depends on the game,I tried 18 wheeler,Crazy Taxi,RE code veronica they all fit the screen at 720/1080 resolutions,but games like Ico,MGS3,SH3 looked like 4:3 on 720p/1080
Try using your own TV settings which usually are located on your remote and named P.SIZE button or something like that.

I’m having issues with GSM and I don’t get any result that compare to other YT videos get. I have official Sony component cables and no matter what resolution I choose, some of what I see is glitched with flashing pixels, a scrunched up image with black bars on the top and bottom with 720p/1080p, or scrunched up where everything has been pushed from the left and right side of the screen. In some cases, even parts of the screen are missing, so sometimes you’ll see half of what a game is supposed to look like. Any idea what’s going on? I’m using GSM in the latest version of OPL

@@MrMoonRocks7 How many games did you try ? I mean, I haven't played in my ps2 so much, cause it was kinda experiment so, I'm not that exprienced to suggest something. But as I remember some games don't support 1080p or 1080i and there is nothing that you can do with this.
When you turn off the console, the GMS settings remain or does it return to the basic setting of the PS2 ?
it will reset to native resolution of your ps2 - so if a game freezes and you hit rest it just boots up as usual

On pc you do this and you can see 3 to 6 times better graphics. You just gotta know how yo tweak the ps2 emulator and then you gonna get crazy results.

those cheap converters don't upscale
get a sony trinitron and a good RGB cable you will thank me later. You don't need to run it in a high resolution and games like soul calibur 2 at 60Hz are an joy to play with no input lag
