It's cool to have these point in time videos to look back on. Just to prepare you for the shock, this time last year I was paying £70 per month for gas/electric combined. Last month's bill was £245, no change in circumstances between those other than Shell profiteering!
I don't know how big your garden is, but you might be able to dedicate a small area to composting. You could then delete your green waste bill.
My rent in Bangkok for a 50 sq/m one bedroom apartment is 239 quid a month. There's a swimming pool and gym, laundry, hair salon, dentist and a pilates studio in the building.
My electric bill is about 23 quid to 35 quid a month. Fast internet 14 quid a month. Water 1.20 a month.
But what is the 'average' salary there?
£88.25 per annum on home insurance? That seems incredibly cheap...
I like how your discussing bills sitting in 3 jumpers 🤣
Great video Jake! and to the viewer who suggested it
Its absolutely incredible to hear what is happening in your country
I'm certainly jealous when it comes the amount you pay for cellphone and home energy. I live in Canada where we get absolutely gouged for cellphone and internet. I pay the equivalent of £82 for fairly basic cellphone service. A far cry from your £8. You mentioned paying about £80 for electricity and home heating. Last year I spent over £330. My major expense last year was heating. My furnace runs on oil, and before you ask, natural gas/propane is not an option for me. I spent over $5000 CAD for oil last year. That was painful.
You can get Cell phone for $25/month is Canada, there are great cheap programs out here now. Electric and heating is far worse in UK than here. They are talking Monthly, not yearly.
@@smalltownhomesteadAC I don't doubt there are cheaper cellphone plans in Canada. But I think you misunderstood his energy figures. Jake said he averaged 80 UK pounds a month for electricity and heating. That's under $1500 Canadian per year. I paid $5000 Canadian per year for heating alone. Another $1000 for electricity. $6000 is four times as much as $1500.
I guess I didn't win the giveaway.
But you've damn sure given me more value than that, in entertainment, over the years. Keep the channel going, man. Some of us dig it. Love from a rare West Texas Leftist.
I haven't done the draw yet! I'm going to do it this week. It'll be automated so I can't cheat
Set your boiler flow as low as possible, the lower the temp the more the boiler condenses and more the gas is burnt not wasted.
Very fortunate you fixed your energy deal when you did. Mine went up from £99 to £240
Jesus Christ
Just seeing this now! An interesting video! I wonder why you didn't include other expenses like food+petrol or transportation costs?
I thought UK food prices were getting scandalous, until i saw a youtuber do a vid last week, comparing the cost of popular food items in the UK, vs the cost for the equivalent in the USA. Basically, food in the USA is DOUBLE (or more) than it costs in the UK
Yeah it's getting ROUGH over here.
Brit's earn far less. The job I do here, for $125K/year I would get maybe 60K In Pounds. So one needs to consider that.
USA gets higher wages - I guess it makes it all relative when u consider the wage differences.
I use Smarty for £18 a month unlimited data, calls and text. I use it as my home broadband and have no issues at all
Now that I live in Vietnam, I always feel rather smug when people back home talk about the cost of living there, especially as I earn more here than I ever did there,
Blimey, our internet here in France is 45 euros per month. What is interesting is how the tax band of your items is listed on your supermarket receipt.
I am amazed! We live in western Michigan in the USA and our bills for things like utilities, trash, Internet, telephone are double to triple what yours are, and that is even taking into account the difference in exchange rate. My husband and I are very frugal, we live in a small house, we drive a 2004 car with the minimal amount of insurance possible. I had always thought that UK prices were higher than ours, but now I know that I have been wrong.
How much is the average wage in US.? In UK the average is just about £34 k per year. But not too many people earn even that
A leading teacher salary in uk is like 40k, if you r earning 60k, you are very high earner. 40k in uk back in 2010 is like 120k aud in Australia.
In Québec we have the cheapest electricity in the whole world, supposedly, but cable tv and phone services cost more than in Europe.
£362. I’d check that! Plus fuel and shopping, mot and service.
You're very lucky with your fuel, I'm looking at £250-£300 per month now
What is with a TV licence? Isn't basic TV free? I understand paying for Netflix etc but it sounds weird coming from Australia. Most of your bills are comparitive though except for the green waste. Great Video😁
wasn't there a change so ANY over the air TV is now TV licensable
lucky your energy bills are fixed in 2021 was paying £82 then early 2022 went up to £220 and with october rise its now £300 a month for me now
I would suggest UK folks start getting a Bluettie solar system to run your Fridge/Freezer and lights, and get Solar cookers for your food. It would be worth it, with the price of your Bills. This is going to go down anytime soon imo.
My outgoing bills are £1920.00 per month, not including food.
My homeowners insurance is $2900/year & property taxes are $1900/year.
If you get a cheap transit tipper (don't worry about nonsense like insurance and MOTs etc) you can then leave it on your drive and fill it with all the rubbish in your house, perhaps even make a few quid by letting your neighbours pay to dump old mowers and broken fridges in it.
Then, when it's nice and full, simply drive it to a nearby country lane and top the lot in a lay-by. Simple money making and space saving scheme.
LOL

Hey Jake, how much would be your monthly bills if you were renting an apartment?
About the same, but often rent is more expensive than a mortgage
So £80 for power less the £60 odd quid back for the government help basically you pay nothing. And hopefully by 2024 the prices will have come down a bit!! Can I run an extension from your place to mine?
Have you still got your poole pottery pot?.
Did you say your monthly gas AND electricity was £80? wow, impressive!
I wish I only paid your house rates. I get screwed for the sum of £260 for fock all expecte the bins being emptied when they feel like it.
Your bills are WAY CHEAPER than the standard bills in the USA, my average electric bill is $400/month, mobile phone is right at $100 & internet is $58. The cost of living there is LOW.
Your mobile phone data is very low, for what you are paying. Why not look at Tesco's service ? You might need to use your iPhone as a hotspot.
hi only have a tv and computer yeas like you me and bro use the same net tv i did have spotify for a long time
on the old £5 a month bad me did record 1000's of songs with wave lab and i went to the free one later on
water meter is the best thing to have big time
i have a video tape bank the tv cops came over and asked why a put in not to pay the bbc any more
they saw all the tapes and discs he said not nice things he lost out there i think so
i have alot of betacam sp tapes 1000's of them
there are deals out there if you look around
I'm hearing rumblings of absurd energy price increases in both Europe and the US.
Car insurance sounds expensive.
You don’t actually need to pay for a TV license even if you watch BBC live. If you write to the TV licence Authority and request to remove your right to implied access BBC have no power whatsoever. I have friends who haven’t been paying for a licence for 10 years.
This sounds like an urban myth
Can you cite an official reference to the ability to do this ?
This is misleading. All this does is (supposedly) remove the ability for TV Licensing staff to come to your door. If they really wanted to they could still apply for a warrant to enter and request police support and the police will attend with them to assist in the execution of the warrant. It's unlikely they would do that without some existing evidence, but ironically removing their implied right of access works against you in that case since 'the expectation of being refused entry' is one of the possible criteria for a warrant being granted.
The blackbeltbarrister did a couple of videos on that topic and I am afraid that according to him this is incorrect.
@@chavpire this is untrue bud, yes the BBC can get a warrant but the police are NOT there to in-force the warrant they only there to keep the peace. The BBC do not have the power for a forced entry, so open the door and tell them to jog on.
Always great getting something which other have to pay for for free isn't it :-(
Your car insurance seems expensive, unless you've had an accident recently. Your phone deal seems incredibly cheap
I’ve been falling you Chanel and I miss your the fake lago vids
You have to pay for your green bin? I thought everyone got a green bin for free. I have a grey, green, brown & blue bin all free from the council.
I think Jake means he pays for the Green bin contents, to be taken away. Maybe the bin itself, is free?
Bin colour may vary by county. Garden waste goes in a brown bin where I am.
Tv license, wtf? Uk big brother…
Should not admit to sharing your passport, they can prosecute you. True story.
Passport?
@@DrJakesVeryBritishReviews I think he means Netflix
Would very strongly never recommend Talk Talk.
Wow your electricity bill is cheap
For now, yeah!
Are people in the UK blaming Biden for international energy costs like they do in the United States? 😄
No, we’re generally blaming our Government and that Russian bloke with no friends
No, we would blame our prime ministers but they don't seem to hang around very long🤭
Zopa do a easy access savings account at 1.85% which i keep my emergency fund in then they have 'boosted pots' with one paying 2.25% with a 95 day notice which i save my overpayments in, these are variable rates so will go up with boe also have some good fixed rates but i like access to my money. I was overpaying until i found this account now im putting it into savings and will do the same at end of my term
If you’re on Virgin Broadband and have a 12 month SIM only contract with O2, they double your broadband speed and phone data because of a scheme called Volt. I pay £22.99 for broadband, 200 mbps, and have 10GB data on and unlimited calls on O2 for £6. With Virgin, they fight to keep your custom so bartering is quite effective. Their customer care is brilliant and the broadband is zippy, You’re the only person I’ve ever heard who didn’t have a problem with Talk Talk.
Also, you can piggy back of a family member’s Prime account if you don’t mind them knowing what you’re ordering. Having a mortgage really concentrates your mind on getting bargains on the essentials.
We've never had any trouble with TalkTalk.
I wish I had your bills lmao!!
