@holliesterr out of curiosity, have you tried gouache on tomoe river paper? I love TRP so much and I love gouache but have been too nervous to use gouache on the TRP in case it cracks and falls off😅x
@Andidejager. wow, so sorry I've just noticed this comment today 😆. I'm super late replying, but I've only used watercolor on TRP. I havent tried Gouache. If I attempted gouache on TRP, I'd try acrylic gouache.
Been a Midori fan for years, MD series, blank, love the cream paper, got the vinyl cover/case, light, flexible, a joy to look at , love the minimalism and no distractions. Great vid 🙏
That perforated corner is for you to tear off. Since it's a page per day, they designed it that way to provide "a satisfying end to your entries." It also makes it VERY easy to immediately find what your next page is. It acts like a sort of thumb tab.
I originally didn't like MD paper but I now LOVE it. I have a stash of Midori notebooks - A5, A6 and B6 slim. I do not have the one day per page but I just snagged one of the few remaining from your link for $17 BUCKS. I love a chunky monkey notebook. Thanks for sharing as always!
I really like the form factor of Midori Codex 1D/1P, the size, the pages count etc. perfect for my use situation, but the corner really bugs me (only personal preference). So I went for the Notebook blank/Notebook Journal blank. Thanks for the video, best regards.
Have you ever tried the Apica Premium notebooks? Very smooth paper, but much thicker than Midori and Tomoe River. Very affordable for a Japanese notebook. I love using the A6 for a Planner because I can use my gel pens and rubber stamp ink pads with zero bleed/ghosting. I get mine from Jet Pens or Yoseka.
The corner perforation is to tear off and mark completed pages so you can navigate to your next page quickly and easily. And Midori sells a clear cover for the codex - a plastic/pvc one to protect it. Many of us buy them and use them on other thicker TRP notebooks too because they are very nice.
This was such a great video. I have personally only used moleskin and leuchtturm notebooks, but I might give MD a try. Thank you for sharing and love the hobonichi kitty cover 😍
Someplace along the line I was inspired to get a Midori A5 Square blank notebook. Loving the COTTON paper but wishing there was a cover that made sense for this.
The brand does offer a plastic clear cover for this, if interested - www.jetpens.com/Midori-MD-Notebook-Cover-Clear-A5-For-Codex-1-Day-1-Page-Journal/pd/29902?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlvW2BhDyARIsADnIe-JAs5w5-wtEGnSFoJ374BbviNbVz4mzbZwITTX3R7z9g9jmr1AYFIoaAu2uEALw_wcB
I have to thank you, because I saw your last video and so this one showed up. I got introduce to MD Cotton Sketchbook over 3 years ago and I could not find it anywhere at a reasonable price. I forgot about it and now I finally get to try it out in 2 different sizes and 3 different notebook types. I have order a little cotton one from Japan just to see if the quality is different from the ones in the US.
Midori MD is my favorite paper but Alone Midori doesn’t have any planners I like and I’m not a DIY person but that’s why I use Travelers Company since MD paper and everything is fine for you ❤ with the refills i use if Sterling ink or Hobonichi switched to MD paper is die but I’m still getting Sterling ink this year I’m excited for horizontal layout so I’ll try the New Sanzan paper again but I don’t like it
I fill a lot of sketch-books, mainly with fineliner and ink washes. I use the A5 120 g/m^2 plain journal of Stationery Island. About 11€ for 180 pages. If you're on the search for a budget book you can't go wrong with that. Paper quality was consistent so far (4 books already filled with urban sketches).
Hi, thank you for the information, I like very much journals and for me, it is important that the papers resist the inks. From where is the brown sparkle fountain pen that you use to close the hobonoshi cover? I love it. ❤❤
Thanks for posting. These websites clue in pretty fast. I looked on amazon today and no bueno on finding sale items except for one pocket size moleskine 2024.
Did they change the paper at the moleskin notebook. I had some a few years ago and the weren’t fountain pen friendly at all? Would like to try if this is better now 🤩
I just got from Walmart and I found a great Moleskine dupe from Pen+Gear... same dimensions, pocket and 78gsm dotted paper! for $10 ... so I brought one home and slapped everything on the test pages LOL and I was pleasantly surprised that nothing went through! except my Twsbi Broad nib had some ghosting... I love it... going back to get a couple more 😂 I love your videos!!! Thanks.
Thank you. I enjoyed your video immensely! Do you know, does Midori carry six hole notebook paper? I have a Botega Veneta notebook binder, I cherish (It's 36 years old) I am looking for quality paper to serve as my journal.
I'm kind of leaning towards Midori because I like that they have card stock covers versus PU leather. I really don't like the plastic... And I can apply linen or decoration or whatever.
hey I see you use binders sometimes like the filofax one, I use common planer just like a moleskine, and I wanted to know, how do you deal with the large rings from the binders? It doesn't bother you when you're writing?
I have a Hobonichi a5 and it billed up just a little bit and I can’t close if, so yes, they have their own rubber band, or like you suggested - cut down the size, but that would be kind of sad
I bought them Midori daily last year, but I found the paper to be too scratchy. My fountain pens did not flow easily on it. Did anyone else have this experience?
Hello, I really enjoy your videos, they are so interesting and relaxing. Have you tried the Letts 2425 journal? I saw it when I was browsing the expanded moleskines you recommended. It is a really long book, made from recycled materials, it has a page for every single day, plus pages for goals, to dos, addresses, plans, timetables and calendars. It's really nice.

You are so welcome!
Midori MD is my favorite paper! ❤ I like the thicker paper and it takes gouache well.
It's great paper! Happy to see you enjoy it as well!

The thumbnail is very satisfying.😅

Happy you were able to take advantage of the Amazon deal! Yes, MD paper just holds up well with everything! Love it so much!
Love watching your video❤ I don’t mind a short or long video, just wanna say that your new video is always a JOY for my day😆
Had no idea what those two black pen tabs were for, can’t believe they act as a closure for your notebook! Brilliant! Thanks for sharing!😊
We learn something new every day, right! 🩷☺️

Would this paper work with watercolor/gouache/inktense etc?

yes, exactly!

Glad it was helpful!
Love love your videos! So many great ideas ~ thank you ❤
I bought one to try. I have a bunch of moleskine now 😅 but i couldnt resist to get 1 of these to try too.
After watching your other video I went on Amazon and ordered the Midori A6 ? Blank for $6.99. I needed to try it. 😊
I just got that as well for an food review journal so I can do food illustration ls as well as blurbs

I love all your videos so much! They always cover content that I truly appreciate! Thank you for taking the time to share!!
Thank you so much for the support and watching! Your kind words are truly appreciated! 🩷
I've been wanting the Midori calendar because I time block, but its so much more expensive I think I'm gonna DIY it.
I saw a few of your content videos but now I just see product videos. Thanks for the tips but looking forward to more spread type videos

its a roulette. you can get lucky and find a "good" one. or not.

I just bought a brown notebook from walmart definitely going to decorate it
Midori MD paper is the best :)

I have the same question.
Have you looked at Levenger Circa notebooks?
I love Midori paper but I can’t fans 5mm grids lol
Can't get any more minimalist and distraction-free than Midori with blank paper, which I've been buying for.. years, and year.
I think it’s a common issue because the paper is very textured unlike Tomoe River for example
I'm curious. What size/kinds of nibs do you use?

Thank you. If Midori would only come out with white paper...
I'm looking for some some good "B" size notebooks that are cheap (relatively) and FP friendly. Any suggestions?
The moment I heard Midori, I didn't need to hear any more. They're such a good brand
Great find. Midoris are excellent!!
Yes they are! Very durable paper!
i use moleskine 25 years its the perfection ,if i need note in my notebokk righted 15 years ago , its in perfect state
I love that you’re as obsessed with these as I am… 😂🤣😅
Could you imagine if Moleskine and Midori collabed and we got a Moleskine with Midori paper?! 😂😂 we can dream!! I would literally faint
omg!! Yeeesss!!! I would love this!! 😭🙌🩷
Office Depot will cut it down?
The Midori MD ♥
Great minds. I went looking for the Midori too.
Sad thing is, I can't find THAT around here.
@@ChrisEbbrsen amazon 😉
hon your giving me notebook whiplash
What pen is that? I love it.
It looked like a Benu Euphoria pen.
Polomino Blackwing to write with, on these !!
I love chucky notebooks!
영상 잘보고 갑니다 응원드립니다
계속 좋은 영상기대할게요!!
💚
Bro your notebooks like when they went to Kevin Spacey’s apartment in Se7en.
Buy good paper and make your own from 16x20 sheets
It looked like ghosting to me.
yes! this.
Manorial paper is superior
hdr burns my eyes lol
What a waste of paper
in what way?
Very inspiring! Paper seems to be just as important as nibs and ink for a good result. 😇🩷🙏🙌
