I'm a recent subscriber, and can I just say, I believe I have found a kindred spirit 😊 I also have no issues with redating planners, love the thrill of upcycling and finding deals, and stick to using what I love. I had the very same idea about turning my Moleskine 12-month daily (which I bought for under $4) into a 5-year journal before you mentioned it. I look forward to all your videos!
Thank you so much for subscribing and for your lovely message!🥰 It’s always great to meet a fellow creative who gets the same joy and understands the passion behind our unique paper/journal interest. I love how we’re on the same wavelength with the 5-year journal idea, too! So excited to have you here, and appreciate you watching!🩷
I use my hobonichi cousin for everything😊 Used hobonichi the past three years. I used it back in 2016-2018, but I wasn't into journaling the same way as I am today. So ended up switching to something else. But now is hobonichi cousin perfect for me 🥰 I'm not much of a planner, so it's mostly for journaling and memory keeping. I do some planning on the weekly pages. Writing to-do lists and housework. I love reading too, so I use every front page of every month like a reading tracker of what I read that month and I document tv and movies I watch. Love your video❤
It was nice to see the Mega in the tie material this year. I didn’t like the patterns this year, but hopefully they sell well so Hobonichi continues to give us more options than just solid colors in the future.
Wow. Awesome video. Just from watching this I jumped on Amazon and bought a 2024 Hobo Cousin for $28. There was only 5 more left. Thank you. I learnt so much from you. Also this year I bought the Yumi Kitagishi Folders in A5 and cut it. The front cover and back cover I put it on my Cover on Cover for my A5 Cousin. It’s worked well and I love it.
This will be my third year with Hobonichi Cousin. And I seem to be one of the few people who use it to actually plan! I write appointments, notes, reminders, birthdays, schedule, etc. Then I go on with my Project Life for memory keeping.
This is my second year of not getting anything Hobonichi. I do feel FOMO sometimes, but throughout the year, I am always thankful I didn’t buy one. Dated dailies are just so hard! And a5 is too big, a6 is too small with the quotes at the bottom. But I DID pick up some notebooks to cut down. I love those notebooks. I do like the dated Moleskines because I just ignore the dates and use the paper as a notebook.
Team Hobonichi all the way! You're going to LOVE the crinkle when you watercolor a page! 2025 will be my fourth year with an A5 Cousin and a Weeks. Mine are all completed and I love looking back on those chunky monkeys. 🥰 And you're right, the new Sanzen paper has a bit more tooth to it. I know exactly what you mean! I've also never ordered from Hobonichi, I get mine from Amazon.
I also purchased the Yumi Kitagishi Cousin cover as well and yes it called out to me "get me get me" LOL It's the cutest thing. I don't even have a cousin LOL. I plan to use the cover with my many MD A5 Notebooks. I also will be using a Weeks as usual and using the cover on cover with the little velcro popper closure thing you shared many years ago. I believe with the Mega Weeks you feature in this video. I LOVE the cover setup video for your mega weeks as well🙃
This Letters cover was just too cute to pass up, right!! Oh, yes- Love the MD notebooks! Great way to use the A5 cover. Appreciate you watching and for being a longtime supporter! 🙌😭🩷
I use Hobonichi for my work and school planning and save the Moleskine for casual journaling. The idea for those velcro dots is brilliant. I immediately one-clicked those!
I’m so glad you showed how the Moleskine would fit with a Hobonichi cover! I was wondering if it would fit and I’m glad it can work out. Thank you for your great videos!
I’m with you! I LOVE the new Sanzen TRP. For me, it gives my fountain pen, a little more friction so I’ve better control over the letters and my handwriting is neater.
I agree with you about the weeks mega not having any pretty colors. They are pretty boring. However, I can make it my own. To me it’s more important to have more pages than fancy covers. I really wish though that they would add pretty covers to mega as well.
I am using the Sterling Ink Common Planner B5 size with horizontal weeks in it. My 2024 planner is the Sterling Ink Common Planner TN size with horizontal weeks in it and I LOVE this format. I bought one of their notebooks last year to try out as a planner journal and I was totally hooked. I also love supporting Catherine, as a US based woman owned small business. I also have their academic planner in A5 with vertical weeks and I use it for school and am really enjoying it.
This year I’ve used a weeks with a liberty fabric cover that I really didn’t like, and a cousin. I made my own zentangle covers and absolutely love them! I like it even more so that they match, albeit different tangles have been drawn.
I love the new sanzen paper because it’s “softer” to write on. Like my ink settles into it easier. The tomoegawa paper was too slick for me personally. I like the textile feel sanzen brings to the table.
I’ve bought a Hobonichi A5 notebook as I prefer the Weeks for EDC planning and scribbling notes, I’ll use the notebook for memory keeping. I’ve used the A6 Avec this year and have loved using it, so I’m thinking of maybe using it for 2025 for a photo a day.
Team Hobonichi all the way :D got my planners and covers all sorted out. Also, I do have the same Hobonichi Hon, with the cats, I got it for 2024 just to try, but i still prefer my regular A5 Cousin. So I use the Hon as callygraphy practice journal, I simply plank out the page date, and voilà :) I how have a good Tomoe River (Sanzen), to write and practice, but with a super cute cover :)
Hi Michelle, the Hobonichi "Hon" has a long "o" sound. For some reason "o" is the only vowel that has a long sound. Like Santa would say, "Ho, ho, ho" and not "ha-ha-ha". So it's "Hoh+n". Just remember it sounds like, "HONolulu" and does not sound like, "Hanalulu". Hope that helps.
I really like the weeks, A6 size and the Moleskine notebooks - and I like everything in a softcover. ( You're responsible for all my Moleskine notebooks that I just purchased on sale, thanks for the tip 😀). But the Hobonichi books have a great feeling when you turn the page or put watercolor on them. I write with a ballpoint or pencils most the time, so the Hobonichi paper doesn't bother me. I have a 2024 Avec I am using for the rest of this year and I haven't noticed any problem if I do use a fountain pen. Thanks for a great video !
The only Hobonichi products I have ever purchased are the blank notebooks, pencil boards, and A6 covers in the Liberty Fabrics. I am just not drawn to the aesthetic (too juvenile and cartoonish,) and I prefer to create my own planners, so I can have exactly what I want. I really like the A6 and Weeks sizes for Planners because they are so portable. I am not a fan of TR paper, though, so I tend to purchase blank notebooks from other brands to use with the covers.
I’m using the cat HON this year in the A6 size for my work planner. For 2025 I might switch to a MD Gradation Diary, and Stalogy 365 for my personal journal.
Sterling ink has a 520 page notebook that I bought with TRP. She also coming out with different sizes and other release dates if you want to take a look!
That's the thing- I'm not typically a big fan of TMR paper. But for some reason, this newer version that Hobonichi used doesn't seem as slick/thin as I would assume other TMR notebooks may be? But I do hope to try one of Catherine's notebooks one day. Knowing me, though, it most likely will sit on the shelf as I would be too afraid to "mess up" the pages..😭😂
Thank you for sharing-I love the HON but didn’t like any of the covers this year-I loved the cats from last year-now I can have both and just re-date! Great idea!
I find the Japanese A5 and A6 books quite easy to use outside of their original years, if you can’t read Japanese. I just write the letter day over the Japanese character on the daily pages.
I’m also trying out the HON (yellow sushi cover for me!) because the feel of the cover got to me! I dunno, that kitty HON plus the adorable cover speak to me too much!
I'm just started using my 2024 daily pocket moleskine as a journal and I fell in love instantly. It's great to have e a place to just jot down my thoughts. I don’t mind redating planners either. I prefer that to waste. Hobonichi is such an experience, I say whiteout the dates and see if you like it. If it's not for you, you can always come back to it later and pick up when you left out. (I saw an $18 USD a6 techo and decided not to it. The struggle is real.)
So happy that the pocket Moleskine is working for you! The struggle is definitely real, especially this year with all these Amazon deals! 😅 Thanks for watching!
You are making me consider a Hobonichi Mega Weeks for my 2025 planner! It is a bit smaller than what I am used to for a planner but it might be nice to have a smaller planner that can fit in my purse and come with me everywhere. I will take a look for the 2025 options! As for the pronunciation, Japanese say hon like "hone" which means "book" :)
Hi Ellen! Yes, the Weeks is such a great "carry around" planner! It's super light while still offering a great planner system layout. If you do decide to use it for the new year, would love to know your thoughts on it. Thank you so much for clarifying the hon pronunciation! Very helpful as now I'll remember! 🩷
This is why I’m getting the take a note planner with 68 gsm TRP again this year. I got hobonichi one year and couldn’t love the paper. If you like feedback the Kokuyo campus notebook at Barnes and noble are a cheaper pick.
Michelle, I stepped into the Hobonichi Weeks this year, and I love it. I just need it for daily jargons, appt reminders, etc. I just got my new weeks on Friday amazingly fast. And the paper is not as thin as 2024. But there is ghosting, for me I could care less. I wrote with a Lamy broad and Imperial purple ink, just in case some were curious. I buy these weeks to fit into my A5 6 ring leather binder and they are so unobtrusive.
Hey, thanks for the chatty video! I used the Cousin for 2024 and I'm itching to get out of it. I was excited for all the space (used Weeks in 2023), but I rarely use the daily pages fully and the blank space makes me feel bad! :( I thought I wanted ONE place to do my journaling and planning, but it turns out I don't feel comfortable carrying around my inner thoughts everywhere, go figure! Plus my kids look in my planner to check dates, so not great for journaling! Anyway, I bought a 2025 Weeks and am going to pair it with a pocket Moleskine daily. :)
I never thought of same way with hobonichi as moleskine clearance on amazon! I wasn't planning to get hobonichi for 2025, but I'm interested in getting hobonichi 2024 and repurpose it. Thank you for the video! 😊
Adorable Kitty Journal! So I used your link and purchased one. I have a black cat, Nola, and a calico, Tikii. Both are November girls. Nola will be 15 and Tikii will be 7. I adopted each from shelters. I love the way the Japanese culture portrays cats with a sort of reverence. So, Michelle, you have (instigated) influenced my first Hobonichi purchase. I was concerned the cover would be hard, but I continued watching (after immediately going to Amazon as soon as you showed the cover) I am relieved it is more flexible. This is what I am thinking: could I layer two clear covers over this? So if I want to add pictures, stickers, what-have-you I could sandwich them between the clear covers and keep the original intact. Hmmm… (Update: 9/10/2024 No, you cannot use two clear covers. However the clear cover fit my Hobonichi to perfection.) I love all the inspiration of your content and I appreciate that you show how you use your journaling tools of choice! ❤
Omg!! Thank you for sharing your kitties with me! They sound lovely🥹 And I really do hope you enjoy the Cat Hobonichi cover version! Your idea with the clear covers sounds interesting! I like it!❤
Love how natural you are on your videos ❤️ I feel pretty much identified in many aspects of them 😅🤓 just a quick thought now, have you ever tried undated notebooks instead of whiting out? (Sorry if you have already shown it! 🙏🏻
Redating the Hobonichi is such a good idea! Thank you for sharing! Also, question: when you ordered the 2024 Hobonichi Hon, did it come with the writing board with pen loop?
I was thinking the same on just using hobonichi 2024 products for 2025 and use stickers to replace the numbers. But I also want Kokuyo Jibun Techo and Midori Slim Pockets too xD
I LOVE the Hobonichi Techo HON A5 [English/A5 Size/January 2024 Start] Bow & Tie: Cats & Me and did purchase it for 50% off. I also purchased the cover on cover HON. It looks beautiful. I love the size and feel of it. I’m so in love with the HON and the weeks. I don’t mind covering the date and using it for the next year. I couldn’t resist and also got the Weekly Monthly Planner/Tall and Slim Size/Apr 2024 Start] Yumi Kitagishi: Take a Look. I love the cat design in the front. ❤. I’m torn- so I use several notebooks for different projects but I do always stick to the Hobonichi for my planning and do not deviate from that. Which beige white out do you buy? Can you provide a link? Thanks!❤
So happy to hear you're enjoying the HON as well! For the white-out tape, I actually prefer the BIC white version. This one here: amzn.to/3AOQURJ But you can find cream colored ones on amazon, I just prefer the white (and lower price point on them)
Hello I was thinking…for the monthly section just change the dates, but for the daily just change the day with a weekday sticker, less to cover up. I have my Botanical Hon a5 from last year that I never used and am so glad I’m keeping it. I really wish they’d made a series of this pattern for this year.
Where do you put all of your appointments and tasks? Do you have a main planner that runs your life? By the way, I have watched you for years and always appreciate your creativity and how adventurous you are with your notebooks I’m always so worried I’m going to make everything look ugly but I am a bit boring 😂
for now, my daily appts and errands on scribbled on a pen & gear spiral pocket notebook from Walmart. Nothing fancy...or aesthetically pleasing. And don't worry about making your notebooks "boring." As long as you enjoy using them and get things accomplished is all that matters! Enjoy the process of it all!
Love that a5 cover! I’m trying to find the red mega on Amazon but the link is for 2025. Do you mind sharing the one you got because I can’t find it. Thanks!
Sadly for 2025 Hobonichi paper is inconsistent. There’s been some major issues just with these initial unboxings. They don’t use 52gsm Sanzen like everyone else - they have 47gsm made and it’s got some issues. The new Sanzen TRP is actually quite nice in the 52gsm. Pens dry faster and there’s less ghosting and shadowing. And you are right it has more feedback.
Inconsistency with the paper? Oh noo!! Just as I was all excited for my 2025 A6 One Piece Hon.😭😭 Okay, thank you for bringing this to my attention. Perhaps I’ll just stick to reusing a 2024 version😅
i think that you can try cousin for 2025. if you wanted to use weeks again i would say 'no weeks just doesn't work for you' but i can hobonichi cousin can work for you. and all this colorful staff too. my gut instincts says you will go back moleskine but at least you can try😅😅
Have you seen kinbor planners? I’ve only seen them on Ali express or maybe taobao, but I just ordered a 2025 A6 for nzd20, I think that’s about usd15. It’s just like the hobo, but they call their paper something else. They originally just had black covers, but now have more options, and more sizes including the weeks size. I’m super poor, and shipping to New Zealand is just crazy...this had free shipping!
I always go back to the Hobonichi weeks. My dates back to 2018 as well. But I skipped 2022 because I was enjoying my spiral MD notebook. Which I still love. But I am trying to have everything in one book and the weeks seems to fit everything I want. Especially since I don’t journal everyday. I use the blank pages in the back for journaling as I go. I’m starting to read again so I have been using The year at the glance page to track the books I have read. And usually the monthly pages for my apts and events. And then the weekly page for my to do list and menu planning. And the right side of the weekly pages I use for my reading notes for the book I’m reading. And so far it has been a successful year in the weeks. I think this will be the longest I have used the weeks in a year because I finally found a format that works for me. I used the Hon for 2024 for my financial book. But abandoning it mid year. lol I just have to give up the fact that I can’t do a physical notebook and I prefer digital means to do my finances. It’s just easier and less work and less computing for my brain lol So 2025 I am just using the Hobonichi weeks for planning and journaling. And everything else as far as notebooks and planners I have accumulated I will repurpose for sketching/art books.
The moleskine's official page has almost all the time -50% or -70% for their old journals. So if amazon doesn't pan out it's also a good place to shop for cheap. And I can relate to liking the new TMR paper more. This was my first Hobonichi year and I really did not enjoy my weeks paper, but when I tried the A6 which had the new paper I liked it more. It had more grip to it and pens seemed to dry faster. Thanks for the long video. This was fun to watch.
The new extra friction is brilliant for me. I love the extra feedback, helps my writing and I just enjoy it more. It’s still lovely and smooth in general. Hobonichi Cousin for the win for me. Fell in love with the Cousin this year. Tfs 😊
Wooow Michelle ! You exactly found what I'm looking for ! It's so hard to find outdated Hobonichi here in France. About the Hobonichi paper, really not my fav' for puting 30€ into. I love tomoe river paper a lot and Take a note and or TRC ones are so so much better !
I wonder if you could find outdated ones through Amazon? Yes, but don't worry. Moleskine is still holding a top place in my heart. I haven't given those up..😉
I am such a creature of habit that if I find something that works for me, I stick with it lol I would keep doing the moleskine if I were you 😅 I’m a moleskine lover
I think its somewhat childish to use a boatload of stickers in /on your journals, especially those with animals, dolls. You are a grown up. I get the odd sticker. 😮😮
I’m sorry that your view of self-expression seems to be confined to a specific age. For many in the journalling community, journaling is a personal and creative outlet. Using stickers -whether of animals, dolls, or anything else-is a reflection of joy and individuality and play. I think being in touch with the full range of experiences across the life span, including those you label as 'childish', makes life much more colourful and rich! Embracing playfulness as adults doesn’t diminish maturity; it increases wellbeing and enhances connection to the world around us 💖
I re date all the time! its soo easy I wonder why more dont do it... When I miss a 5 year entry, those are relegated to the following year outside the 5. With it being soo chunky already, the free spaces make great swatching spots in A5 and adds color. Doesnt faze me: "waste not want not" Wish Amazon sold reasonably older hobos as I loved their TR paper😊 The Hon is amazing, I do hope they release more options as its getting more popular Enjoy your videos! You're OG 🎐

OMG! Yes!!!! Another video! Hobonichi too 😊. We are so blessed with all your videos ❤ I’m an OG…been watching for years! Thanks for sharing!

gosh i always love your moleskine journal im so obsessed
Awww, thank you!! 🩷 Yea, I'm obsessed, too! These notebooks bring me so much joy
Thank you so much for covering these. I love indulging in the notebooks I COULD have. One day I will upgrade from shopping your lovely videos.
Glad you like them! 🩷
I’m so glad you showed how the Moleskine would fit with a Hobonichi cover! I was wondering if it would fit and I’m glad it can work out. Thank you for your great videos!

So the new 2025 version has ghosting?...I guess it's time to stock up on the old 2024 version then😅😭
@@SeaweedKisses it was a Lamy Broad nib, and I just wrote with a Bic gelocity and a1.0mm pentel energel. Same results. I don't know what to say.
HON have their own, non-bulk clear covers because they don't fit the regular covers well. Also, Leuchtturm cones in softcover as well. 😉😉
enjoy your Moleskines!!
Thanks for sharing! Love how redating can be so easy. Would love to see your journal with me or process videos if you ever want to share ❤
Thank you!🩷 I may sprinkle in some from time to time ☺️
I never thought of same way with hobonichi as moleskine clearance on amazon! I wasn't planning to get hobonichi for 2025, but I'm interested in getting hobonichi 2024 and repurpose it. Thank you for the video! 😊
Hope repurposing on works out for you! Yes, try Amazon for great 50% off deals!
However the clear cover fit my Hobonichi to perfection.)
I love all the inspiration of your content and I appreciate that you show how you use your journaling tools of choice! ❤
Omg!! Thank you for sharing your kitties with me! They sound lovely🥹 And I really do hope you enjoy the Cat Hobonichi cover version! Your idea with the clear covers sounds interesting! I like it!❤
I’m sad the cat cover one isn’t available this year. But I’m definitely getting a Hobonichi this time around. I cannot wait 😍😍😍
I really like your bracelet 😚! I purchasing hobonichi a6 for this year🫣. I really like the cousin but is not easy to carry everywhere.
I couldn’t make the old paper work but I love the new paper.
yup, same! Isn't that interesting! Everyone hates the new paper, and here we are happy with it! 🤣
Love how natural you are on your videos ❤️ I feel pretty much identified in many aspects of them 😅🤓 just a quick thought now, have you ever tried undated notebooks instead of whiting out? (Sorry if you have already shown it! 🙏🏻
Oh thank you! As far as undated notebooks? Yes, just my plain blank Moleskine notebooks, and Midori A5 notebooks.
Redating the Hobonichi is such a good idea! Thank you for sharing! Also, question: when you ordered the 2024 Hobonichi Hon, did it come with the writing board with pen loop?
yes, it does come with a writing board with the attached pen loop.
Team Hobonichi :D
I love the hobos
I was thinking the same on just using hobonichi 2024 products for 2025 and use stickers to replace the numbers. But I also want Kokuyo Jibun Techo and Midori Slim Pockets too xD
You would really like sterling ink planners and notebooks.
Thank you for the video. I love this idea of redating! I am reluctant to purchase a hobinichi cuz of the price, but 1/2 off?! I can do that!
Sales certainly help, right! 😅
@@SeaweedKisses totally!
yeah i wish the mega had more colors and better cover designs 😩
Keeping fingers crossed for better designs revealed next year 😅🩷
I LOVE the Hobonichi Techo HON A5 [English/A5 Size/January 2024 Start] Bow & Tie: Cats & Me and did purchase it for 50% off.
This one here: amzn.to/3AOQURJ But you can find cream colored ones on amazon, I just prefer the white (and lower price point on them)
@@SeaweedKisses Thank you 😊
Hello I was thinking…for the monthly section just change the dates, but for the daily just change the day with a weekday sticker, less to cover up.
I have my Botanical Hon a5 from last year that I never used and am so glad I’m keeping it. I really wish they’d made a series of this pattern for this year.
Walmart is where I got my Velcro dots a couple of months ago
I have a cute heat gun near me just to help drying watercolors and wet inks in my hobonichis
Thanks!
it sold out, unfortunately. I tried finding other links/sellers, but no luck😭
@@SeaweedKisses thank you for checking! Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing it somehow 😀
I had that same weeks megas as you from 2021 to current. I don’t like that sneaker weeks. It was my first one.
have you considered sterling ink? i'm in loveeeee with mine
I still have yet to try it. But I hear great things about it!
Thankfully no issues with mine
i think that you can try cousin for 2025. if you wanted to use weeks again i would say 'no weeks just doesn't work for you' but i can hobonichi cousin can work for you. and all this colorful staff too. my gut instincts says you will go back moleskine but at least you can try😅😅
Oh, thanks for sharing! Never heard of that brand. I'll have to check it out.
It’s just easier and less work and less computing for my brain lol
So 2025 I am just using the Hobonichi weeks for planning and journaling.
Thanks for sharing! And I’m glad to see you’re enjoying the new TMR paper as well!🙌❤️
Things didn’t shut down until 2020!! (But 2019 sucked!)
ah, yes. you're right!
I haven't given those up..😉
I am such a creature of habit that if I find something that works for me, I stick with it lol I would keep doing the moleskine if I were you 😅 I’m a moleskine lover
yes!! Team Moleskine here!!

I think its somewhat childish to use a boatload of stickers in /on your journals, especially those with animals, dolls. You are a grown up. I get the odd sticker. 😮😮
Bullying others for how they choose to live their lives is childish. Grow up.
Why share that opinion at all 😂
Um, that’s your problem 😂 no one cares but you, LOL!
Yes, I am grown up, but I'll always be a fun, creative, playful child at heart🥹🩷
Doesnt faze me: "waste not want not"
Wish Amazon sold reasonably older hobos as I loved their TR paper😊
The Hon is amazing, I do hope they release more options as its getting more popular
Enjoy your videos! You're OG 🎐
Thank you so much for watching! 🫶
