The Nazi's did do meth but it was an over the counter pill that they restricted and regulated to minimize the side effects on the men. We know this because observations of the men taking it were recorded to an extent. They also ate chocolate (which is still being made!) called Scho-ka-kola but that was only given to jet pilots to keep them awake because that was the most practical way to give them caffiene. Giving them the meth pills would in practice give them too much and they'd be tempted to take them all at once so it makes sense why these practices, done for the same purpose (curing the need for sleep) would be done seperately. The Nazi meth chocolate is just a misconception of those two facts people parrot because it sounds funny and cool.
