In the 40 K universe its not about skin color. its about the fact that Death Corp were treated in a similar fashion. sent out to fight and treated in the same fashion. If they were killed or succeeded they like the rest of the Imperial Guards men they would not be treated as equals to Space Marines. Discrimination in the 40K universe is color blind.

It could be seen both ways though, so I can see you half way. Now Proven units like Cadians might have been a better comparison to the Hellfighters.
