- London Contemporary Voices choir performs Hunger by Florence + The Machine at the Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall. Arranged by LCV's Knut Olav Rygnestad and conducted by LCV's Leanne Sedin. Rehearsed by Paul Burke and David Corck-Adelman.
The show explored themes of mental health, identity, consciousness and ageing and included performances from guests Orlando Weeks (The Maccabees) and RINNGS.

What a stunning cover! I adore "Hunger" so much, not only because I'm a young woman and have struggled with body image, but also because I believe that everyone does have a certain hunger in them. It's quite an experience to see this masterpiece sung by so many people. Thank you so much for creating and sharing this. Perhaps it's something else, but I do almost teared up at this cover. That was beautiful. Thank you.

This is gorgeous and I hope they keep singing Florence songs! I do wonder why there aren't more non-white faces in the choir (not to erase the few people of color that are there and not to cause too big of a stir, ha.) I really like the increased tempo!

Don't get me wrong and I know that I'm of the most minor side of the opinion spectrum but I didn't enjoy this at all.
I thoroughly admire orchestral versions of great songs if replica-ed or experimented on. Usually atleast.
But something seemed very off for the most port, especially the higher pitched female voices and the pacing.
Maybe I'm just too big of a fan of Florence atM to enjoy another approach at this song.

A main singer and the choir as background
I know what you mean. I’m not trying to diminish their abilities, but I prefer choirs that use layers and more control. This seemed like 200+ people using full voice for almost the entirety of the song. I don’t necessarily think it needed a soloist and a backup choir (since we’ve already been given that from the F+M), but I feel like it could’ve been arranged differently to feature various sections. All that being said, I’m still going to listen multiple times because I appreciate anyone trying to pay tribute to a band I love.
i think some more deeper voices would have shaped the general outcome a bit more, give it it a bit more of an edge.
M C not at all, I totally get your point and I agree with you. I’ve been singing in a choir for 15 years (I’m 21) and despite all I can tell you they’re not in synchro while singing (you can hear individual voices stand out), moreover high notes and males’ ones aren’t precise at all...females are shouting and this doesn’t help them to reach a clear note .. this melody requires a “rounder” vocal technique ... All these imprecisions could be due to being emotional during certain performances, or perhaps it was their firs performance of this piece. I strongly believe that by working hard and passionately, they will achieve a greater level, they just need to spend a bit more time on the practice of the script and melody! Good results need hard work! ;)
