Kai Tak is one cool airport but the coolest thing about it is that it's a very rare Convair 990 with those wild rear fan J-79 engines.
Ah I was right, when I saw those engines from the window, that was a Convair. Indeed an impressive approach.
@@Ztbmrc1 Yes, very unique inlets!
Thank you so much for posting this video. Fantastic.
This is awesome. Thanks for posting.
Lion Rock boards...what an approach!
Made that landing many times as far back as 78.. we used to say in the right turn you could see kojaks face on the apartment tvs..
30 seconds before landing I did also see people's TV at home, and some were doing their laundry at the open roof top of their residential building!
The last bit looked like flying an X-wing over the Death Star.
Enjoyed this. Not much need to catch a taxi 'downtown' from there!
I like the musical accompaniment too
hands on flying like no other
I think that their are a lot of pilots who started making nightmares once they saw Kai Tak on their rosters. 😮
Ding, when was that ? before 1970' ?
Looks like a Convair 990.
What an approach and landing!
Turn right at the billboard!
To help pilots for their landing approach, did the checker board exist at this time?
2:51 its on the left side of the captains wind screen
@@ogc90 I didn't see it...

CV 990 Convair
Douglas DC-8, I guessed that cockpit is similar to DC-9
EL WRONGO Convair 990
@@ogc90correct 😊
SR DC 8 .
I think it was one of their CV990 Coronados 🤔
Yes, these fat engine nacelles are what the CV990 has.
CV990?
Yep!😊
Fabelhaft
What is the crap poor taste noise. Watchable with sound off
taste evolve with time. This video is about 60 years old.
Most hand-held movie cameras came with a full orchestra.
