- Video tutorial on how to remove any smells/odors in your vehicle's ventilation system. This is a special solution which is used by dealerships, garages, and car lots that is sprayed directly into your vehicle's heater/air conditioning system that kills any foul smells. This can be used to remove any odors from dust, smoke, manure, smoking, oil, etc. The product can be purchased at any local auto parts supplier. This particular video was done on a 2004 Volkswagen Golf TDI.

Thumbs up if you thought the spray extensions was one of those red circles you find on clickbait thumbnails
@Clint Woo Sometimes it takes a little work trying to get the nozzle inserted. Some snap in easier than others. You may have to remove the vent in order to retrieve that nozzle or you might be able to grab it with needle nose pliers.
Great video.Clear instructions, easy to follow. Thumbs up! Thanks.
Hi. We got a great deal on an 08 Altima. The interior was filthy and it smelled. I appreciate your experience and putting these videos on RUclips.
BTW, I couldnt find a VW TDI. I was either gettinng the Altima for reliability or the TDI for mileage and durability. I drive an 04 Dodge Ram 3500 w/Cummins Turbo Diesel. 32MPG@64MPH highway unloaded. 25MPG@64MPH towing the Altima on a car dolly. Awesome.
@Tom lovelace The production years for the VW MK4 was from the years 1997 to 2004. Now this is dependant on where you are located as well. I have heard between different countries, some vehicle style production dates do vary.
The product is made by Mobilair, it's called Air Repair Evaporator Treatment.
Awesome, got to give this a try. Thanks for sharing I'll let you all know how it worked for me...
Excellent to hear and thank you for the feedback!
Great ! Thanks very much, I wish I had found this years ago.
No problem, glad to help out :)
There are different ways to sanitze the interior on a car. This is one way, you also try different types. I personally use Lysol, I applied Lysol at the bottom of the dash, right where the feet goes and set the A/C on at the minimal speed, flowing at all vents ("air max" on my car) with internal circulated air setting activated.
Excellent presentation . . .
Thank you, don't forget to subscribe!
Most of the smell comes from the evaporator not from the fresh air duct therefore opening the recirculate makes a lot more sense, spraying into the air inlet under the dash is way better as it will find it's way to the evaporator more easily which is where most of the air conditioner smells come from.
Great video! Very clear instructions!
Thanks for sharing this!
@Frank Brown Any auto parts supplier should offer this product.
Sorry for the late reply. Any smell/odor which is stuck in the fabric of the vehicle or ventilation system, the chemical kills all those contaminants. If you open the windows, the chemical is blown out the window and it defeats the purpose.
Febreze does smell nice but it doesn't work unfortunately. I just "out smells" the existing scent and over time it'll comes back. I worked as a detailer at a car lot and we had both this deodorizer I showed in the video and Febreze. We could use a load of Febreze in a car to cover up a smell, park the car back on the lot, not touch it for a week, open it back up and the odor would be back.
Unfortunately no I do not. Just simply go into your local auto parts supplier and look for a a/c evaporator treatment.
Yep it is.
Great! Well done!
Thanks for the upload my dash is all taken apart so I'll be able to get the foam over everything
hey i notice you got a tdi you should look into chipping your car the gains are crazy if your into that sorta thing i recommend unitronic .. keep the videos coming.
I bought a BMW E36 few weeks ago and it has specific smell in it.
Its not bad smell. It feels like smell from these car air freshener trees or things like that.
I tried to wipe any plastic with these wet dashboard (interior) cleaning wipes but smell is still there.
Always, even when no air vents are working.
Were it could be? Inside carpet and seats? When i put my nose on carpet or seats i dont feel the smell.
What product you will recommend?
I have heard that throwing some coffee into car would get rid of the smells but im not sure it helps.
+jw200 Have you replaced the cabin filter? That would be the first place to start. Next remove the back seat and I've found in more than one case any interior smells can be caused by something under the rear seat. After that I would move onto removing the seats (easiest way to get into all tight spaces) and shampoo the carpet.

Thank you for the reply.
I dont know about cabin filter. I mean i dont know if its there or not. I have to look.
When weather temperatures go stable here and it keeps warm i will remove the carpet completely. So that sun will dry out the carpet. I want to put some sound deadening mats there etc. And i will use high pressure water and shampoo to wash the carpet. Because i dont want to do this job twice.
Not a problem, glad to help out! It should have one, otherwise I believe it leaves an open spot in the duct. They're a bit of a hassle to replace, similar design to the E32.
Actually this is from Canada lol. Diesels are somewhat popular here, but it can be a pain to find places to fill up at times from personal experience.
Kilometers ;) It had 460,000km when I sold it over a year ago.
Thanx from Serbija
I used an ozone machine that works pretty well also.
+ne2i Unfortunately not everyone has access to an ozone machine. But good tip, thank you for sharing.
Ozone machines don't actually do anything. It's pseudoscience from the 1800s. I was good friends with a man who owned a company that sold "air purifiers" and he often laughed about how stupid people were for buying them because they don't do anything a normal fan doesn't.
The ozone generators will produce a DIFFERENT smell, but they do not clean, sanitize or deodorize anything. It's gimmick 100%
He actually personally refereed to those machines as "noise and fume generator" rather than purifiers
Thanks for guide.
2004? why you have golf mk4? 2003 starting have golf mkv..
Hmm, you are right , it smells different after you used the spray!
Have you ever tried Fabreeze? It smells amazing.
the red extension tube keeps popping off when i use these compressed air cans. mine actually dropped in the a/c vent. any suggestions?
Greeting to Canada. i`been taking nice couple from Canada on airport here in UK few months ago.they`ve been surprice to hear 75% of all cars sold in europe are diesel.
nice, the air perfume now?
I bought a used Cadillac one year ago and it had no odors for the first 6 months. However, for the last 6 months it smells like horribly stale air mixed with light cigarette smoke. I have asthma and have been reacting poorly when I'm in the car for very long, so I've been freaking out thinking I need to buy a new car. We were "promised" nobody smoked in the car, though I know that's probably a lie. Although I have family members who smoke and the smoke odor in my car is not nearly as potent as it is in other cars, so it was probably just occasional smoking, or they smoked in the garage that the car was kept in. Do you think this method will work for my car? Also, will replacing the air filters help?
Thanks! :)
cdwebb2010 First thing I would recommend is replacing the cabin filter. It is one of the most common problems that will cause an odd smell in your vehicle. If you would like to go with another step, you can get specific types of cabin filters that are intended to kill any smells from the exterior which will enter the interior of the vehicle. If the smell if still there, then I would recommend going ahead with this step.
please the name of the special solution ?
Thanks.
Good video ! I have a 2014 Nissan sentra , The car had no problems at all until I brought it to lube to change the oil , right after they finished , I turned the heat on all I smell is gas when the heat is turned on . Do you think it's a bad filter ? Please help me ! I can't take that gas smell with my kids in car . Thank you !
+myrtho charles Odd there is a fuel related smell after an oil change considering they shouldn't have touched any fuel system components. I would inspect the engine bay for any fresh residue and then check the cabin filter. Do you also smell any fuel around the outside of the car or underneath it?
+4DIYers Thanks for replying ! no , I don't smell the gas from outside only when I turn the heat or the a/c on. Do you think your system would work for something like this ?
No problem, glad to help out. Yes it should work on removing the smell, just as long as there is no source from it.
Take it back to the dealer. If you smell gasoline, you have a dangerous fuel leak
thks bro
+Shanky Singh No problem!
Where would one buy this product? Thanks
If I get smells in the vents on my Honda Element I usually change my cabin air filter.
Robert Knight Unfortunately that always isn't the case. I do recommend changing the cabin filter first and it is required on a maintenance schedule. Other times doors can soak into any material within the duct system or mould can even grow on the ac evaporator.
hat smell is the pollen filter/ cabin filter
Nice video. Just a suggestion...you use the word "actually" a bit much. I would work on that....I stopped counting at 27. It's a bit annoying.
Am I seeing 442533 miles or kilometers?
what does the spray smell like
I just bought my first car and it was previously a smokers car. Will this help alleviate the smell? I of course am going to shampoo and replace headliner
Don't try to scrub down the headliner, you will more than likely destroy it and it is expensive to replace. Just clean the interior with a quality auto fabric and carpet cleaner and get a Meguiars or Turtle wax car bomb odor eliminator to eliminate all odors.
what is the name of the product?
Thank you everyone for the compliments and support!!! Don't forget to like my video and subscribe to my channel. Also please follow me over on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and Pinterest.
whta is the actual product
Do you have the part number?
how about cleaning the evaporate coil inside without opening the dashboard, and doing with some solution using ac vents particularly on honda amaze/mobilio/brio? suggest something !
+Prafful Singh The only way that can be done is if there is some sort of access hatch or a cabin filter is near it's location. Unfortunately I do not have that model of Honda available where I live.
it comes with no cabin filter which is one of cause that the evap coil gets dirty so frequently, dont know where the evap is as told by ASC its under dashboard and whole dashboard is taken off too clean it and they charge alot for it, well it has blower motor under glove box like typical hondas, thus i was hoping if running down some foaming cleaner through the ac vents can solve the purpose or not.
+Prafful Singh If it's getting plugged up with dirt and debris, then the foam will help kill any odours but it still won't solve the plugging issue. You might be able to access it through the blower motor location, it will depend on the design. If not, then you may also be able to remove the windshield cowl where the fresh air intake is and feed a vacuum cleaner hose down to the evap coil. But with that being said, you also need to be extremely careful not to damage the fins.
I know somebody who put a carbon filter over their cabin filter.
hello thre i need some help my car when it rains or i have lot of people in the car the windows get foggy as well the windshiled so i have to tun on the heater, but i have to put it on the one for windshild so it automatically changes to intake air and its smell like smoke coming out of the vents can anybody will this product work do i have to change the cabin filters help please this smell like smoke gives a headache
MrRockaroundtheclock I would replace the cabin filters first, especially if they haven't been changed in a long time. They do have a tendency to give off an odd smell if they're older. If that fails, then you can use this product instead.
RIP this guy who died from inhaling exhaust vapors
Can this damage the blower or something?
+Luis Jose Nunez No it will not.
Centra rims 😲
+franzzocker Haha, thank you :)
e a traducao?
TDI volkswagen in US?i thought americans only use V8 4.5l or bigger cc,and of course it must be petrol aka gas.well well how wrong i was.
what spray is this? does amazon sell it?
I have the product listed in the description. Quite possibly, I purchased this from an automotive parts supplier. Don't forget to subscribe!
Your car sounds rough. Not an insult. Mine sounds the same, just more feminine and yours sounds more masculine :)
whispergirl77 Lol... I believe when this video was taken I had an upgrade urethane dog bone engine mount installed so it made the drivetrain more rigid. At idle it made the whole car shake, definitely not the best feeling lol, but made the car much more responsive to drive.
:)
is this a diesel though? this is rattling like a diesel.
Yes it is a diesel.
Are both your cars going to have a baby?
This doesn't make any sense. You have to get the product onto the evaporator. The vents are quite far away from this!
Lehmann Peters The product vaporizes in the interior of the vehicle, as well as in the vents. When you do activate the recirculate, the product will eventually make it's way through the evaporator and kill any scents or mould.
what car is it ? vw bora?
Close... VW Golf Mk4
Golf 4 2004 tdi how many kw?
King Gott 460,000km when I sold it a few years ago.
4Diyers Horse power? I am interested because i have car like this
100hp, mine was completely stock engine wise.
Manual car in Canada O.O
What's that spray called??
The product is made by Mobilair, it's called Air Repair Evaporator Treatment.
nice bmw's
seems like basic car common sense to me.
am i the only one here who noticed his cars done about 4 million miles?
+Erect Clown 4:47
+Erect Clown I believe its 400,000 miles. The last one doesnt count
+James Wiggs yeah I guess that would make more sense.
+Erect Clown 400,000km... The car had 460,000km when I sold it.
+4DIYers that's very impressive. Have you come across any engine trouble during the 460 k?
You should have mentioned to make sure your car is unlocked before shutting the doors. Some people may not have a spair key. Lol.
Lol sound like a diesel
