    14:28 “animation enhances our suspension of disbelief”
    I couldn’t have said it better myself. Out of context, anime can be silly and ridiculous. But when truly starting and watching a show, you get immersed and your suspension of disbelief is magnified; you’ll go along with whatever the story throws at you. A lot of people don’t seem to realize this

    • @aliendxde
      @aliendxde Год назад

      it's also why people find live action anime adaptations cringey, the way they talk seems cool animated but once there's a real person there your suspension of disbelief is kinda ruined

    I think I've watched this video essay about 5 times now; you're very articulate and I enjoy the way you've tied the different experiences of your life into your changing perception of animation. Though I never went through a phase of believing it was only for children (since I grew up on anime and frankly, I am the exact opposite in a way that I think everything would work better in animation haha!), it's really cool to hear the love and admiration as you speak about such a beautiful art form!

    Dude, this was seriously addicting and you were amazing! I was never big into anime and I honestly thought attack on titan was a movie. Now I need to find where to stream. Wonderful video. All your points were spot on, the editing was amazing. Like many others here in the comments I thought this was a video essay with millions of views but I was surprised when it only has 5k. The amount of smaller channels on this website that create content of the highest quality is astounding. I hope this video and your channel continue to increase in its recognition. In a time where a lot of people associate anime with cheap fanservice and pervy characters, its nice seeing someone talk about how anime can tell truly engaging stories through its writing and animation. Hopefully one day more people will understand this outlook and be able to appreciate the wonderful storytelling of anime.

    One more thing to note:
    Anime is the ideal medium to adapt a book to. established tropes like that of time slowing down as you hear someone’s internal monologue is completely fine in an anime because the suspension of disbelief is much higher than in live action.

    • @CView
      @CView  2 года назад

      Good point. It also is way cheaper and easier to make a large scale remake in animation vs. live action. Thanks for watching!

    It also helps that animation depicts human expressions and emotions in various forms, in a much more believable and relateable way when live action could hardly pull that off.
    What you said during the AoT section of the video was a very good depiction of action setpieces done in animation, but it's even better in the works animated by ufotable, in particular regarding their adaptations of the fate series, also what you referred in the your name section, can also be very well applied to the works made by the Kyoto Animation studio.
    I'm thankful for Japanese animation companies to elevate the benchmark laid by the likes of disney, and evolve the medium tremendously, in particular the aforementioned Ufotable and Kyoto Animation studios.

    • @CView
      @CView  3 года назад

      Haven’t seen Fate yet! Definitely have to give it a shot.
      Ufotable’s Demon Slayer would’ve been a great anime to focus on for action set pieces, I agree. Really so many anime from the East could’ve fit in either section, but just wanted to focus on 2 for my first foray into animation! Thanks for the recommendation tho! Will 100% be checking out Kyoto Animation :)

    • @FlameSkull95
      @FlameSkull95 3 года назад

      @@CView
      Here's my personal best recommendation to get into fate, but if you don't wanna read the wall of text, ignore the rest of the comment so apologies in advance.
      The most optimal and spoiler free way of doing so is by watching the definitive edition fan edit of the 2006 fate/stay night starting with episode 1 (episode 0 is the start of it's sequel route), as it cuts the stuff studio deen included from the other routes for the sake of runtime and due to them being unsure of future adaptations, even though the way it cuts it is jarring to say the least, it's the only way, you'll have to download the episodes one by one and then switch the audio track to Japanese and then the subtitle track to english, unless you're fine with English dubs, with that said, this is the deciding factor whether you like the series and want to proceed with it, as this is the first fate adaptation by studio deen
      Link: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aviwmFX5qdEiHAXAWr3SQzspXhvM5b2N
      After that, proceed with the ufotable adaptations, starting with unlimited blade works, then the heaven's feel movies and lastly fate/zero, either in between movies 2 and 3 or after the last movie, and the reason I suggest Zero last because it was made assuming the viewer knew about the events of the 3 routes of stay night (in particular in the case of the heaven's feel route).
      After that it's free sailings as far as the franchise goes.

    havent watched the video yet ut the reason I like anime is because recently I've been feeling like American shows have been feeling a bit cringey lately. And it's not just the quality of the show but I think it also has to do with the language barrier. For example, if a show like Vivy: Flourite Eye's Song was in English, I'd probably drop the show 1st episode, it's literally a show of a robot who wants to sing to save the world from an invasion while trying to learn how "to put your heart into something". But since it is in Japanese and I have no idea what they are saying, it doesn't bother me at all since I can imagine the conversations as I like and not get disturbed by how stupid everything sounds. (Vivy is a very good show though you should try it). Also I Really loved the video definitely deserves millions of views.

    Subtitles being bad is one of the biggest reasons I learned English. In Romania almost nothing gets dubbed so you get to read subtitles, after a mediocre level of English it's better to drop them completely since the translations are not that good in some cases.

    With Attack on Titan especially, it's surreal how much an animated adaptation can dwarf the original manga art in terms of beauty.

    This video almost make me cry! I always been called as a kidult or child because I get emotional with animation! A movie doesnt touch me as an animation does! When I like a movie or series, I wondering how it could be if was an animation. Pixar and Dreamworks were my references, but after Arcane, I started to watch reviews that introduced me to Animes. Please make more videos! Your timing is perfect! Could you please make a review from Spider man Multiverse? Thank you!

    That piano piece while you were talking about that anime "Your Name" was beautiful. I take it that its from the anime?
    Also, I have to say that unfortunately subtitles aren't always better than dubs even if you give them a chance. I restarted AoT watching with subs and I didn't even make it 3 episodes in because of how many errors were made. They completely botch names and contradict previous sentences, I'm assuming due to poor translation. I realize the dubs have those moments as well but they don't stick out for me as much.

    • @CView
      @CView  3 года назад +1

      Yes that piece is from the film (Definitely recommend if you haven’t seen it)!
      Regarding subs vs dubs, I think it depends on how each person starts watching anime/animation. There are some fantastic dubs, like deathnote for example, I just find it hard to lose myself in the medium when it’s spoken in English, a language that the original material was not designed for.
      Good point about errors tho… you’re right they are surprisingly frequent for how popular the shows are. Hope these studios are given larger budgets and even better localization teams.

      @epn8459 2 года назад

      As a hardcore anime watcher, I watch entirely subs, and yes there are errors here and there and funny sentences but it's never enough to take me out of the story or make me get lost or confused, it's never that big of a deal to make one not know what's happening. I'm not even aware of the errors unless they're really glaring in the majority of the episodes which is rare. Lol I couldn't imagine watching AoT in dub. I guess there's just a really huge divide between the subs and dubs preference and it's really hard to get people on either side to cross.

    No camera man can shoot a AOT live action following the animation frame by frame
    And let's be honest, animated fights could be so dynamic it surpass human limit and simply cannot be replicate by actors despite the technologies. So many bone breaking movements it'd be dangerous for the actors

    I always thought anime was childish and made fun of some people I knew that watched it from time to time. That was until Attack on Titan season 4 came around and I saw so many posts, memes etc. about it that I couldn't ignore it. It peaked my interest and I checked it out. I immediately got hooked and binge watched it. After that I watched Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, HxH and then moved onto different genres of anime and checked out Your Name, A Silent Voice, Bunny Girl Senpai and even trash like Domestic Girlfriend that I just couldn't get my eyes off cos it was so bad but good at the same time hahah. I fell in love with the artform and I'm now even commited to watching One Piece and am currently rewatching my favorite show ever, Attack on Titan, before the release of the final part. Goes to show that in life u just gotta give things a chance.

    • @CView
      @CView  2 года назад +1

      Exactly. Gotta try things and be open minded. There is good and there is bad in anime just as in any other style... AOT, Demon Slayer, and more are well worth diving into the medium for. Thanks for watching and sharing your story ❤️
