Thanks for the video and the look at this new jacket. It looked instantly familiar as soon as I saw it. So here we have the replacement for the Waxed Mill Jacket from last year. Don't know for a fact, but at last look they hadn't restocked that coat. Same mechanic's jacket look. Minus the cord collar, nylon lining for easy on and off, a shift away from British Millerain canvas, and a new country of origin, etc. The Mill Jacket had closer to a $300 retail but sold for the same price after discounting. HB needs to be careful, heritage clothes aren't cheap, and arent really in vogue with the just out of college have job have cash now covet me crowd. 20 somethings and many others are just trying to get by right now, thankfully the mid age folks heritage wear calls to are the group with money to spend. The problem with selling top quality "Buy it for life" products is it makes it hard to get buyers to come back the next year to see what the slightly different variant of the thing they already bought for life happens to be... I guess they held a McLaughlin Group at the HB Center for World Domination, and this is part of their retuned lineup. Heavier canvas if I heard right, the trade-off of lower price for foreign made, and the loss of aome details. Arguably it's tangential anyway, the waxed trucker is their baby, everything else is secondary and will likely have a fairly short life expectancy in the interest of keeping their product lineup fresh. RSVP Waxed Milll Jacket. 🔪☠️🪦. You have the distinction of being the first waxed jacket to gett The Chair after spending time on HB Death Row. Im sure our old friend Beavis lost his mind. "The Chair, The Chair! Yeahhhh!" 🪑🔌⚡🤯🔥🔥 We'll see if this replacement can do better in the market. Off the top, the lower price should definitely help. American-made or not that's a really nice jacket for the $150 give or take that it will likely be on sale for... 👍 I will console my own Mill Jacket how about its fate and place in the world now LOL. ☹️
@ I do not think this replaces the waxed mill jacket. That was a completely different style jacket and a made in the USA item. This is closer to the waxed trucker, but with a classier touch of styling to it. I think this is more in regards to people not wanting to spend $300 on the waxed trucker, but still moving the style and look of the jacket. So this brings that in at a lower price point, while still having something that is a bit different.
@@jeffgrantMEDIAYep, couldn't be anything but as one of the handful that own a WMJ. I love it, it's more of a minimalist looking coat compared to the waxed trucker with all the pockets. Obviously not for everyone since it ended up in the proverbial "Chair". 😆 My additional thoughts and yours pretty much line up. That said, it's definitely hard to see all of this American manufacturing happening again, only for the products that were being made here to be shifted overseas so they can be sold less expensively. It really seems to defy what this whole Heritage clothing movement is about at its core. Or perhaps I'm just reading the room wrong... If I remember right Filson has come under fire of late for similar decisions. It's an interesting philosophical question, how important is being a part of the small resurgence in American manufacturing to the Heritage clothing movement? I can't be sure, but it seems like that's a question we may well get an answer to. Hmm...
@@BWM135 again, this is not a replacement for the mill jacket. That was essentially a Carhartt Detroit jacket in a waxed canvas. It has a shorter, has a zip and cord collar. This approach be an entry level version of the waxed trucker, with a few different style points to make it a different jacket. The two biggest comments I get in the waxed trucker are the pockets are inlined ( some of the newer ones are) and it is too expensive. The later corks from people who see the jacket, love it, but don’t understand the cost of heritage goods. Enter the James. Still made forms. Quality fabric, but by making it out of the US ,hey can drop the price to something more tangible to the masses. Get them hooked, then they buy the waxed trucker. And the James can be dressed up more than the Waxed Trucker ( my new series launching tomorrow)

Mine arrived last week. It came out of the bag feeling tacky or a bit wet still. It did pick up some lint, but I didn't mind. I had to return mine, unfortunately, because my shoulders are large measurements and I ordered a medium. I usually get a more fitted look that way but this jacket is right on the nuts for typical medium. Slightly too tight in the shoulders making the sleeves ride. I'm ordering a large now. But I decided to go green instead of black. I chose this over the Filson and Thursday Boot jackets. It's really nice and tough. Very stiff out of the bag. Can't wait for my green one.
@ i would call this a “medium wet” jacket. There are a variety of waxes and fabrics. Basically there is a “wet” feeling wax and a “dry” feeling wax. The James is certainly a “wet” wax, though not as “wet” as some others I’ve had. After wet about a week or two, it will shed some of the wax through wear and feel a little better tot he touch. As far as sizing, this jacket also has a more taper cut. I had actually requested mine in a medium and some shirts in a large, so I was accidentally sent the jacket in a large as well. So it was a happy surprise it fit me well. I feel the large fits me like the waxed trucker medium. I am broad chested and that also ones with wide shoulders. So I would have had the same issue as you if I got the medium
I bought the James in coal and insta-returned it. I didn't like the fit. It felt more boxy and shapeless than the trucker. I guess it's because of the lack of any significant lining. The Bighorn Shirt Jacket fits wayyy better, and I think it looks even more "formal" than this James jacket. But they don't offer the Bighorn in coal. In the end, I'd rather just buy another trucker jacket in coal. By the way, thanks for all your F&T videos! They've been very helpful when deciding what to buy.
@@daniels9877 I’m happy my videos help. I agree on turning the bighorn. It just seems to fit me perfectly. I will be filming that video early next week. I have it on forest, which is a pretty good color. It’s certainly not coal, but it blends well with most color pallets. In the end, nothing will ever beat the flannel lined waxed trucker.
