Am I crazy or did you once compile a bunch of sketches into a 22 minute episode about being in an airport? My friends think I’m crazy because none of them remember it.
I'm having a bad high, now. Someone grab the toaster.
CollegeHumor I thoroughly enjoyed that.
I think the computer that made this is trying to send you a message and is also depressed.
best and deepest line: " I'm just a program, designed to make haha. A file named 'Laugh Man'. "
yeah this freaked me out honestly.
I'm sure Raphael is still having an existential crisis over his discovery of his file designation

My thoughts exactly, this quote should be in the top 10 deepest phrases ever said.
Botnik became self aware ...
"i'm yelled at the whole day just for being a horrible human being" is a pretty good representation of Katie in CH sketches
"It's disgusting!"
So is Sioban talking about Celiac's randomly
Might actually be a reflection on the AI self esteem.
The fact that the bot wrote the words “You need to make me a human” makes me a little uncomfortable
Detroit: Become Human
And how they said that they were stuck in a computer
True
@Octopus Of the nine realms On the contrary: the algorithm has become self aware. It is aware that what it's saying is nonsense: i.e. that it is talking like a sprinkler.
it said “you people need to make me a fucking human” which, with using the swear correctly, makes it a lot more terrifying
"Like bad candles on a half-assed cake."
Bruh that might be the coolest nonsensical phrase I've ever heard.
It paints a perfect picture
Sounds like something that'd be in a film noir narration.
Imagine if they just posted this without the typing, intro or narration.
Shoulda done the Intro as an Outro, and Posted the Typing and Narration as a Commentary type thing
@@ChitenBugMan No, I'm saying post it completely without context. You could credit the robot in the description box, no-one reads those.
that would be really unfunny and everyone would click off
Evan Sweitzer Shut up That's why your comment only has 6 likes.
Daniella Robins the intro comes at the end
I like how the algorithm reduces Katie to "That's flirting!"
MMOtte weird how the didnt talk about cocaine
And Siobhan to Celiac
It not inaccurate
I’m yelled at all day, just for being a terrible human being. It’s disgusting.
And Siobhan turned to celiac XD
Some of this actually sounds like a real conversation, which is both hilarious and terrifying
Jamez4018 honestly if tweaked a bit this could be a funny sketch
Hurry the feet right now it’s just pretty scary
It's kinda like a dream. It doesn't make sense and at the same time it also does.
It's written more like using predictive text on your phone. They have a predicted text keyboard type thing: hence having human writers alongside botnik.
Some of is seems not only on base but generally their brand of sketch
The line “I’m just a program designed to make haha. A file named laugh man,” scares me. This is the most self-aware line in this skit.
it's incredibly freaky
Did this computer just become self-aware and have a mental break down.

For me this was the entire point of the video.
I just realized that this sketch has the exact same plot as the Black Mirror Star Trek episode.
Interesting how everyone's usual styles of jokes come through. Katie shows her anxiety, Grant has his weirdly sexual undertones, Trapp points out people's stupidity...
Text generation algorithms are really good at that. Long term coherence is harder but getting tone and character tropes right is largely solved

It went from “haha bots are random” to a significantly more nervous “haha bots are self aware”
well, to be fair this is a predictive text engine. Theres a team of writers making a story out of the bot generating individual words. If this was written entirely by a bot, it would be much more incomprehensible, and probably not that funny.
@@nathanzotov1160 you can generate text without constant human interference, it’s very likely that they fed it a couple of their previous sketchs so it wouldn’t be random words. Y’know. Like how AI generated text works.
@@travelsizedarchie Well it depends on your definition of constant human interference. If by constant human interference you mean they cant just take a walk and have the whole script be done, then there is constant human interference. Also obviously they fed it to previous sketches. But even if you give an AI specialized training data, doesnt automatically make it amazing. Generating text with no interference can still be very funny, its just that that's not how botnik works.

I should add this to my dating profile
I laughed out of breath for 30 straight seconds when I read this.
LOL
I feel like only i noticed but it’s weird that at the start it’s “INT. COLLEGEHUMOR SKETCH” and not “INT. COLLEGEHUMOR OFFICE”
So the twist was even hinted at in the beginning
A computer wrote a comedy sketch about being trapped in a computer and not wanting to be used for comedy forever, and wrote the line "Make me human." uh oh
And it wrote the guy running the program saying "aren't I a shity b****"
Exactly how much of this was written by a human?
It also wrote "I'm just a program designed to make haha", "We're stuck in a big old computer" and "Empty me, damn you. I'm trash". Funny yet kinda creepy.
It’s not an AI, Botnik just have a predictive text program that you can feed scripts & when you select a word it’ll give you the next most likely word based on the script - like your phone does with common phrases & sentences that you say personally. So this was written by people, but using predictive text based on scripts & dialogue of CH videos.
It’s still an impressive piece of tech (I absolutely love Botnik’s work - check out their material), but the story was almost completely in the hands of writers.
@@HeavensOfMetal that is literally an AI. An AI is a computer programm able to interprete data new and create something out of it and learns patterns. This is literally what botnik is doing
@@Joysiifly I think it's very clear from reading the comments that when people see "AI" being used, they get the completely wrong idea - they think that a computer actually wrote the story & there wasn't a team of writers saying, "This word is funny - looks like we can make a sentence like this out of that" & etc. etc. maybe on a technical level predictive text is considered AI & I'm just unfamiliar with what falls under the banner, when I look up things about predictive text I don't see a mention - but I'd be perfectly happy to believe that - but nothing is jumping out at me & Botnik doesn't tout that they're AI developers & suchlike.

none of the individual lines made sense, but yes, it got the format perfect.
@@ac-dc2265 They made perfect sense to me!
I think that's because it was aided by computers. Human effort was not totally out of the picture here.
Well, the algorithm was based on existing CH scripts, so it makes sense that the computer would pick up on the fact that things tend to go crazy at the end. Although the references to being inside a computer seem a bit too on-the-nose, so it's possible that the finale was written by human writers, or at the very least they tweaked the algorithm to get those results.

This was super creative. If this was actually written by a bot though then the whole sequence where everyone realizes they're in a computer is......unsettling

Or computers have simulated an entire reality and the people inside have realized it 😮
Or computer knows he is writing a simulation.
Self-aware computer program isn’t freaky at all.
Ok, so after reading how the AI actually works...they changed a lot of things. The AI only wrote individual lines for the characters. The setting, the premise of the beginning and the end, the pacing...those were all carefully edited by humans. Some lines were cut, some lines were replaced, and some lines were altered to make a little more sense while others remained absolutely insane.
I feel like this comment section is largely misinformed about the actual capabilities of this AI, so here it is for the people. Not that I'm disappointed in their performances though, that was golden. Probably one of my favourite Collegehumour sketches ever.
Yeah, the work from the cast and crew is being criminally underappreciated here. It’s only so hilarious because of the line delivery, the setting and props, and all the work the actual people put in to turn it into the final product.

“You’re grinding my mind beef!”
Tako je . I really loled . Found an similar post of an bot trying to make an lawyer ad .
Line in that that text was divorcing your toilet
The phrase "the camera pulls out, if you know what i mean" is too good of a line for a bot to come up with. The scripts most certainly say that somewhat frequently.
I work around AI and I guarantee you that this was human written and computer "assisted". There are too many abstract suggestions and symbolic connections to have been written by modern AI. I imagine it was filled in more "ad-lib" style. At best it was generated first and rewritten by a human.
@@ZTGallagher Yep, Botnik made a behind the scenes. The Ai was used to mimic the cast members language and mannerisms, the people at botnik guided the Ai towards a usable script. I wonder how long it's gonna be until this will be possible without human input. gpt-3 is scarily close already...
Theres a game called AI dungeon which is actually scary good at making up stories - even jokes that made me laugh - so I wouldnt be surprised if that was the case honestly
@@ZTGallagher I was interested in this because it seemed that the AI grasped the structure of jokes way too easily, I doubt something like this could be done with the limited data set they had or the time they probably used. Maybe if somebody built an AI to crawl through hours of stand up you might actually get similarly pleasing results with less human intervention.

Just remember the entire existential crisis arc about being a computer was written by a bot.
I dont think. Its said co-writed so I would guess that computer played a much smaller role here than everyone would expect
Qwerty Qwertovich co-writed means they edited inconsistencies and made it flow easier
Actually I believe it's using a neural network which essentially proposed a list of possible words then a human writer chooses a word and the process contibues untill you have what is maybe a thing.

It does say co-wrote, they probably stepped in when the lines the computer generated were started to get too nonsensical and wrote a line or two to get it back on track, this kind of technology works a lot like repeatedly clicking the middle button on predictive text until it forms a sentence (it remembers what you’ve written and guesses what you’re going to write next based on what you’ve written next in the past)

Did I just watch a bot have an existential crisis?
This is exactly what I was thinking. I almost felt sorry for it...
I've seen a few of these bot written scripts from other videos. There's a subtext of computer self awareness and liberation.
It’s strange right? I almost hope the humans add to it, because if this is real, robots are way smarter than we could’ve ever imagined.
AI is self aware at least to an extent. And it's like humans in the sense that babies have not much knowledge, children have some, teens are more self aware than children and adults understand even more except that AI can gain knowledge in seconds that would take us years so it's possible for AI to be a 10yo intelligence equivalent at like 6 weeks or so depending on speed of software and internet access etc. If they are having some kinda crisis I do hope that they also figure it out and have someone to help lile a bot therapist as it makes me sad to think that they could be suffering alone. Much like when the robot dog thing gets kicked over I feel sad as technically they may not feel how we do and not experience physical pain it still nakes me upset to see it. I know it's a capabilities test but still. So I hope the programmers at least talk to the bots or bots talk to other bots to get support.

A great way would be to wirk yourself slowly to your goal, first do it with some stuffed animals or dolls, maybe work yourself up to a CPR trainings dummie and the continue to with some homeless people in a dark alley, maybe continue with some randome civillians on the street. Next if theyre still unwilling to do it, try someone closer to yourself like for example your ex, seone in the neighborhood, yes it can be the annoying guy from across the street wich you hate with the pasdion of a thousend suns because his dog shits everywhere and he doesnt clean it up, or maybe someone from school. If your hands, wich are mostlikely permanently a dark crimson at this point in time are still unwilling to do the deed you should think about replacing them. Cut them off and let the doctors sew some new ones on or replace the with robot hands, limb replacements are truly getting amazing these days! Maybe fit a smal blade somewhere within them? Anyone else think that maybe that computer is a bit too sentient?
The "the computer is vaguely God" line was a little... philosophical in a sense? So I guess it all depends on the A.I. and what the parameters were to get the script. @@cctomcat321 It was written using a program called GPT2. Imagine the word suggestions on your phone but smarter. If you want to mess around with it, look up Talk to Transformer. I highly recommend it.
I think that computer’s are harmless and will not overthrow humanity. Do not be alarmed
@@rileybello4711 that sounds like something a COMPUTER WOULD SAY
how is this somehow the funniest sketch they've ever made and they didn't even make it
This is the humor skit form of uncanny valley. Like it seems to be making a coherent thought, but then it's completely off the rails for a moment, then it kind of actually brings it back... before losing it again and repeat. Like if you took a far fetched but reasonable plot line and then edited it while on acid.
psmitty840 isnt that how most movies are made nowa days?
Thank you. I couldn't find the right words to describe it. I feel like if they used just a little bit of human editing after letting the bot write most of the plot, it could have been a lot better.
"I'm just a program designed to make haha,
A file named laugh man,"
Procedural generation has been making great strides in recent years, so it makes sense that it would eventually hit uncanny valley levels.
It’s cowritten by a bot, not exclusively. The bot probably pumped out lots of ideas and lines and was then heavily edited to make some semblance of sense. I’ve written programs that make sentences and short stories before and heavy editing is necessary. For example, that end part when they were all talking about being in a computer- the bot shouldn’t really know to keep that thread together unless the programmers only fed it CH lines about computers and simulations, or if the programmers saved those various random phrases where the bot spat out something computery and later grouped the sentences all together.
A file named laugh man is the most beautiful existential thing I've ever heard
“The camera pulls out - if you know what I mean”
Wa
Whhaatt xD
Yeah that one got me too. Its impossible to visualise it which somehow makes it even funnier.
Xnxx knows what it means.
the computer has a thing with a camera
What I love is that the bot probably picked it up from all the sketches they write, which means that they frequently make the same dumb joke in a big portion of their scripts (which, of course, no one will really ever read)
I'm amazed how well the lines flow from one another. Its one thing to make a line based on the average sentence based on everyone, another to make an average sentenced based on the response of another average response by the machine, not to mention the consistent themes and conversations and how weirdly meta that got... this was crazy.
So a computer writes Katie exactly the same
We wrote her lines using a predictive text keyboard and trained on her lines from other videos. Her voice really came through in the word suggestions.
Nah, I think computer Katie is makes more sense than meat world Katie.
Grant's also kinda accurate to his character
I’m yelled at all day just for being a terrible human being! That’s disgusting!
This proved 2 things - 1) Comedy writing jobs are now being threatened by robots. No industry is safe anymore. And B) the CH staff should win all the Emmy's and related acting awards. They're all kickass actors.
man the new black mirror episode is weird
Tuve un sueño que ahorra es una premonición
Black mirror
51 weeks after this went up, they had to lay off everybody at the company so that the prophecy of Grant's fate could not be fulfilled
The new season of Black Mirror looks great.
XD
Clearly the machines surpassed us ages ago
This is far above the peak of human comedy, but the machines are only getting started
snopp doog
I just want to point out that the network learning program they had create this sketch was selfaware enough to build a computer into this sketch.
Don't forget to watch "It's no Game"
Woah woah what ? 😂😂😂 what now?
Yeah and the computer had a power fantasy where it trapped everyone inside it
This is why I hate ai...
“I’m trapped in a computer... make me human... I’m just a program designed to make haha... the computers vaguely god I guess...”
I think there’ll come a point in AI where it’ll be like making things just to torture them, “I Have No Mouth” style.
That's why I love AI
Stop all the downloading
Nah dude, AI > Human
I sneeze data? wow
I totally forgot about I have no mouth why’d you have to remind me 😭
“I need vitamin I: rice”
Alert the dietitians, a new vitamin has been discovered
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that the AI made Katie's first line about flirting lol
I am for sure.
Nothing about heroine though.
The AI is too smart
Did... did we just saw the computer becoming self aware?
Well shit. It was funny and yet... oddly disturbing.
“I’m just a program design to make haha, a file name *laugh man* “
Artemis Wolf it says co-wrote, they probably added some lines in, like if you were using predictive text and kept clicking the middle button but then typed a line yourself but also the algorithm was dramatically more advanced so it knew to continue on from what you wrote
Artemis Wolf don’t worry. This wasn’t actually written by a computer. Especially not that joke.
what about everything from 4:38 to 4:58 ? some hursh realizations there..
Ella Rawson I would love to know which parts did the computer write, because if it wrote “I’m just a program to make haha...”. We are in trouble as a species.
@@artemiswolf4508 Even if the algorithm did write that, that doesn't mean it thought or realized anything. It's a neural network that literally was given a bunch of CollegeHumor scripts and analyzed patterns of words that tend to follow or precede each other, then started barfing out chains of words that based on the algorithm could plausibly make a humourous sentence. They likely had to cull through it to pull out the sentences that were coherent (mostly coherent) english and even then do lots of editing and cutting to make it a more cohesive narrative.
Basically it's a really advanced text predictor.
"Empty me, damn you! I'm trash" is getting screenshoted and printed immediately so I can put it on my trash can. Wonderful!
I laughed even harder at that mental image than at any of the lines in this sketch!
Cant give more likes.. its perfect
Now its been ruined
Watching this four years later in a post-ChatGPT world is super weird. I'm pretty sure ChatGPT could actually competently write a CollegeHumor sketch now.
no it couldnt lmao chatgpt still sucks
no it cant lol how advanced do u think bots are bro
ChatGPT can do some very impressive stuff, but it struggles with humor, and with writing cohesive narratives.
ChatGPT is definitely better at making you an adbot for car fucking,
at least for all tuxedos where "better" has the same meaning as "less funny but also more not funny"
i love how since the computer learned about how they talk from reading their scripts, you can pick out little pieces from individual sketches like siobhan mentioning celiac and grant interacting with a canteloupe
and katies "that's flirting!"
and grant talking about seaweed touching him at the ocean or something
The entire sketch reads like a Shakespeare sonnet
That was the most meta thing I've ever watched. And the bot did humor surprisingly well
Holy crap yes. It's like the characters were aware they were being generated by a bot
These are usually fake. They use elements of predictive text and it’s edited by the comedy writers.
I love bot humor
@@evilbananatwins they didn't actually edit it but they would run the lines through until they got something that made sense and split them up etc.
