No way I thought right away that I recognized the Rig. We met the couple almost two years ago in whitehorse. They told us that they are about done traveling after seven years and will be going home. Man the overland world is small. greets from Germany.
@@BoundForNowhere Yes I mean what are the chances me following you over a year before we quit our jobs to travel through northamerica and Mexico for a year meeting them in whitehorse missing you by a hairs breadth in AZ and then seeing their Rig on your channel bought by a friend of you :-D
Really a small world. We met the couple last year in May in Bryce NP. They told us that they sold the car and are about to leave back to Swiss. Best regards from Germany as well
These types of "hot box" hinged top, cabin/camper overland rigs are the ground zero g spot magic fountain of overland passion. Just like something you'd see in a National Geographic magazine article in the 1980's about Morrocco.
Thanks guys. Awesome rig. You are so fortunate to have purchased from original owners with them dialing it in for world travel. And, 1500 mile fuel tank that is crazy big.
My parents have owned 19 Toyota/Lexus vehicles in the last four decades. They love'em. We continue the tradition, purchasing a Toyota Sequoia for our new home's garage. And despite what people think...they're made right in the USA.
Wild, we ran into them about 6 months before we left on our big trip. Saw them over near the town of Clifton, AZ offroading with another couple in a tan 70 series in 2017.
yea as a 29 year veteran VW Westfalia owner, this is cooler and more robust. You just can't beat Toyota reliability world wide. I actually can't think of anyone more suited to this truck. Your photography skills are excellent. cheers.
They are landing mats, used in WWII. The US Forest Service also use them at some of their lookout towers when the roads are steep so the can deliver supplies and not have the road wash out. They also get VERY slick when wet. Great rig.
What an amazing rig! It's clear that it doesn't yet feel at home to him but hes getting there. That seems realistic. Nice tour; including the pros and cons makes it more real because even rigs you design for yourself can have those awkward things that need a hack, work around or rebuild.
Back in the 1970's we called them "landing mats", used them a lot off roading in Florida. The manual locking hubs are fool proof strongest option, you turn them when you leave the pavement, they are ready when you need them, the in cab options are prone to not working, from years of experience as a land surveyor, 40 hours a week off roading no trails, made our own.
As a former VW Westfalia owner, I took notice when you said this Landcruiser might be "cooler." Alright, I might have gotten a little defensive. I've owned Jeeps, trucks, motorcycles, and vans but my '71 VW camper van was the coolest vehicle I've ever owned. It was under powered with no A/C and a bit temperamental, yet it took me over most of North America. But after watching your tour of this rig, with all the decals from multiple continents, I must concede the title. And 1,500 mile fuel tanks?!! That's sick! Safe travels!
Hey Mac - great tour of Aidan's Toyo…been a fan of his (and yours) for a couple of years or so and love what y'all do! I also love your jean jacket…you may need to do a "tour" of it and tell the backstories behind all the accoutrements (patches, pins, etc)… Keep on kickin' it down the trail. Stay Healthy and Safe…we don't wanna lose any of y'all… ~ ~ ~ ~ "Scooter" in East Texas...
I really like vehicle tour videos, thanks for this one. Would have loved to hear more details like what his MPG is on average, how tall he is so we could judge the side of the bed, water and battery capacity as well. Also would have loved to hear a ball park cost of how much he paid? Great rig, I wish him luck in his travels!
Nitram Midnite I’m getting 23mpg on the high end and 17 on the low. I’m 6’2”, have to sleep diagonally. 80l water tank, 150 ah house battery (could use a bit more). I got it for a great price. $2k less than what I sold my van for!
The story about the brown leather bag at the drivers door must be a bit different. As a Seargent of the Swiss Military I can tell that it’s a combat medic bag from around the Second World War. So it could have a very interesting history.
Yeah. This is an okay Rig. In my humble opinion it would have been wiser to do a Tray and Camper on an extended 79 series. But we will never be able to import those into the US, bummer. I would also add a Bull Bar and winch again. But who knows I am partial to smaller Overland Rigs as I believe light, nimble, capable, and fast is best. Cool Rig and congrats on your purchase. Check out Andrew’s 78 Troopy build on 4XOverland
You can get spares for these vehicles on Mars. Seriously practical and rugged overlanders. I grew up with them and Landrovers in the Zululand Bush. I've never owned one personally and I will one day.
If North America allowed the 70 series Land Cruiser the world would make more sense. Absolutely amazing trucks. A quick google conversion from AUD puts one of these around $40-50,000 USD.
Thane Hall Some friends met the previous owners in canada and found out they were coming to the end of their trip and were looking to sell. when i decided to sell the van, those friends suggested i get in contact with the previous owners. timing was perfect.
Bound For Nowhere I have watched your video on the Mojave Road and ever since then I’ve always wanted to go ride it we just finished our 2007 Toyota forerunner build I’m really excited to get out there!!!!!!
Good tour - LC way cooler than a (I need to get worked on) Van a Gan. The previous owner twerked it for their preferences - I would say you should change away. Ah...
We talked more about this off camera. I think it's a good move that he's decided to leave it be for a while while he learns it. Then take it from there
@@BoundForNowhere Yes - of course - live with it and change what you want to change. I've been building my van for almost 3 years (slept in it for 15 months) and am still modifying stuff I've done from the start. (couldn't be happier)
You guys Tundra Truck is better then his :) you should just need to Lift Up your Toyota Tundra Truck and add the extra fuel tanks so you can drive longer. I know that Tundra are horrible on the gas milage lol

This is like buying 20 years of experience. That couple was/is pretty kick ass.
I got really confused when I didn't hear anyone with an Australian accent talking about a 70 series

You could easily make a 2 hour documentary about the adventures of that Swiss couple and their amazing rig
Thanks guys. Awesome rig. You are so fortunate to have purchased from original owners with them dialing it in for world travel. And, 1500 mile fuel tank that is crazy big.
I agree he said he got a lot of knowledge from them in talking over why they did what they did to the rig

Jesus. He scored. He’s so VASTLY better off with the cruiser than he was in the van. This will be light years better off-road, and superior riff road.
He’s still in love with his van.
Yesss!!! Your videos have been saving me from boredom the last two days at work. Excited for a new one!
That's what we like to hear! More coming your way!
That's a well thought out rig. It's cool he gives all the credit and respect to the couple that built it.

i loved that thing. but i like the lc more :)
Haha gotcha, I feel like your new rig is more capable than the van, yes or no?
Anthony Nittolo 100%, and not only more capable, but more reliable, which to me is more important.
@@aidanklimenko4581 that makes complete sense if you're literally driving across the world haha
I think i like the Toyota Tundra more
Nice rig. I prefer videos that focus on your travels but it’s fine. The @.30 made it all worth it. You are truly gorgeous!
This Cruiser is my dream! Stunning
He's all about the backpacks.
We love Land cruiser 70 series this beautiful truck is very popular on Middle East
I know and we are so very jealous of that!
Sweet walk through. Love all that you guys are doing. I'm inspired too buy a bed style Camper for my 02' Tundra. 🤘🏽
Wow that is probably the most well thought out cruiser I’ve ever seen. Thank you guys for sharing, I’ve got tons of ideas for mine now.

That is one awesome rig! I’ve been following Aidan on Instagram for a little while and have really wanted a full tour of that thing!
I’m sure the previous owners know their rig is in good hands.
What a quality video! What a camera you guys have!
I bet the dimensions of that thing allow it to fit nicely into a shipping container. A huge benefit for trans-continental travel.

I thought the same thing!

Excellent rig. wow
