    From my experience you guys will need that extra water jug in Australia. I traveled across the Aussie outback and there's absolutely nothing for hundreds of kilometers. My Aussie friends kept telling me, take as much petrol you can carry, as much water you can carry and 2 mounted spare tires...😎

    The scenes of overlanding, wild landscapes, and camping in this video are a captivating narrative of the human spirit's quest for adventure and connection. It's a reminder that the world is a treasure trove waiting to be explored, and the moments spent immersing ourselves in nature are the chapters that define our journey.

    Fabulous set up -
    We also have an overland 2012, 2.2 110 Defender (called Poppy) but with an X-Vison-X pop top - that we love - and our inner set up is from Landy-Ausbau.
    The BAS re-map will make a great improvement in drivability in the middle gears - however watch out for clutch issues with the extra power - we changed out our clutch for a LOF ‘powerful’ one and took the opportunity and changed the output shaft for a stronger one at the same time.
    Truly love your videos ! - safe travels.

    Thanks for the tour. Your ideas and thoughts fit perfectly what we are considering as "necessary chages to happen" to our Defender. The newest bed system of ex-tec is indees very nice and comfortably, even to old caps like us (haha). But we are also thinking of the chip tuning to increase the power of the engine as well as implementing an intercooler. Looking forward to many more videos of you guys.... And we're happy to hear that the initial three years are now 3 to 4 years. ;-)

    Nice review - enjoyed that.
    Water is important here in Australia because of the vast distances and desert. Our caravan, which we tow with our 2009 110 station wagon, has 200 litres of water tank, plusb80 litres of grey water.
    Recommend you get a hose with a filter and 12 volt pump so you can pump from rivers and filter before putting in your tank.
    We have a 120 litre diesel tank which gives a range of about 950 kilometres. Diesel is widely available but your extra 20 litres would be useful in very remote areas.
    Be aware Australia is VERY fussy about vehicle cleaning to keep out imported pests and diseases, so you will need to clean the vehicle very thoroughly yourself, but be prepared for Customs to order a second cleaning by a professional company at your expense.
    We are on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane so feel free to make contact if you would like to visit.
    Australians normally go north in winter to chase the sun and south in summer for cooler temperatures. Australia is vast, so be prepared for a lot of travel. There are many free camping spots.

    • @NextMeridianExpedition
      @NextMeridianExpedition  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you for all the details, yeah we’re thinking we may need extra fuel for Australia. Water I think we should be fine with the extra jerrycan, it would mean having 115L of water and 140L of fuel. But potentially we could upgrade to 195L of diesel.

    Hi Y'all, Nick you would love my 1958 Dodge 4X4 US Army M42 Ambulance (May It RIP) I got it in 1987, took a few years to customize and we traveled extensively Alaska, Canada, US, Mexico down to the Panama Canal. I those days, during the US War On Drugs, we thought it best NOT to go farther south. We had plenty of problems from Mexico City and farther south to Panama City. It's for sale now, but no one living [off grid] has made a good offer. I have been truly amazed about how well you have been received in Central and South America. if you remove the DPF pack it up and send it home for starage, refit as soon as you can when back in places that require it as if you don't and get cought with a removed DPF, it's big fines. Personally, I'd just strain the fuel and regen it more often. Better to not have one.
    Good walk around and interesting on a few points. 😀

    • @NextMeridianExpedition
      @NextMeridianExpedition  10 месяцев назад

      We’ll buy a new one when we get home, we’ll keep ours but simply put a straight pipe inside the catalyst so it’s not visual visible. We need to remove the DPF, we are loosing tons of power and the regen is now twice a day… it’s unbearable

      Hi Paul! We have tubes bringing the coolant from the engine in our water tank and out again. We have a on / off switch so we can control when the coolant takes that circuit and a temperature gage to control the temperature of the water directly next to the steering wheel. So if we want hot water for a shower we would activate it maybe 20/30’ before arriving as we drive to bring the water to 40 degrees Celsius. It is awesome and very simple. It really increased our comfort a lot.

    I assume you'll keep the DPF for when you get to Australia and can swap back? The high lift and winch might not get used but the piece of mind of having them, the confidence to go remote and solo and then the 1 future time they completely save your ass they could pay for themselves being there in 1 use. Good walkthrough.

      Hi! Thanks for for feedback. About Australia do you know if we bring the car over they will check our DPF? If so do you know if it is just a visual inspection to check if the catalyst is there or if they also take exhaust measures ? Thanks a lot for the feedback

    • @KevIsOffGrid
      @KevIsOffGrid 10 месяцев назад

      @NextMeridianExpedition not an Australian, but they are tight on rules, even on tyre sizes and for sure on exhaust/DPF.
      I think you need a basic inspection on cleanliness and roadworthyness to get into country and if you fail you pay storage charges while they clean or yoy get it legal. I'd ask overlanders that have done it but it could be expensive to get into Australia if they dont like your vehicle. I've just researched for my own trip not experienced but kinda came to the conclusion with the most expensive shipping in/out and limited visa time there Id consider buying and selling there for my trip rather than taking my own. GrizlyNBear did a good few videos on the process for them and especially the cleaning and roadworthy test

    I have a question that I’m hoping that you can answer. I have a small Ford transit connect van that I travel in throughout the US. And I’m looking to get more space. Water jugs take up a lot of space. I want to hook up an outside water/tank holder like the one that you have installed on Albatross, can you let me know where you got it or what it is called so that I can find something that’ll work for my van? - to elaborate I’m looking for the metal crate that is holding the containers from the outside.
    Please let me know if you can point me in the right direction.
    Best regards, Kat & Corey ❤
