One of the best instructional and most thorough videos I have seen. It really stands out in terms of detailed explanation, calm expression, and camera work, considering how tight and cluttered the space was for some of the hoses and attachment clips. Great work.
Thank you for this very informative video, it helps to have a long drawn out step by step video especially when you have a mercury sable. Can not really find videos on that car and my daughter loves her car because its like her grandma's. So we work on it ourselves because we can't afford a mechanic! This video helps to not be intimidated with knowing what its gonna take to change the back plugs and wires. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! I told my daughter we need to start making videos for a mercury sable so if anyone else has the same car its easy to find on youtube.
I beTT repair shop would have been arm n leg for TThaTT job it's no other good feeling in TThe world knowing u fixed the problem with your ride plus u saved TTime in money yes sir 💪💪💪💪
I am happy to have helped you out in repairing your car. I continually strive to make videos full of helpful content without missing steps. Thank you for dropping by my channel.
Small tip: you really don't need to take the throttle cables apart unless you want to get your throttle body off completely and onto your workbench. You can just unbolt the throttle body from the upper intake with the cables still attached and lay it off to the side. It will still be accessible for cleaning and will have saved you a small step.
Thank you for the easy to understand and informative instructions I was intimidated at first realizing that I needed to do plugs and wires but upon discovering your video I was able to tackle this project with confidence!! You've earned my subscription cheers from Olympia wa!
Thanks for this video. BTW, the plenum bolts are 8 foot pounds. I had a heckuva time reconnecting that gas cable to the throttle. I loosened the throttle body and from there it was a cinch.
Nice video Alan. Very informative. I have the 2004 dohc which is slightly different than yours and yes, it is a pain to change rear plugs. The only thing I might add is why remove the upper intake plenum bolts? They are designed to be retained in the plenum, not removed, hence the difficulty in removing them! Anyone doing this job, just leave them in!
Excellent work, the format is perfect! Everything is thoroughly explained in an efficient manner, without cutting out important steps! I also enjoyed the tidbits of helpful advice and suggestions. You deserve thousands of views and subscribers, thank you!
I prefer the whole project as one video with time stamps. Could you please come help me do this job? I don't think I would dare without you hanging out with me to talk me through it. I enjoyed this very much.
Thank you so much for this. I was able to change my plugs yay! Discovered a lot of oil on the one plug. Might be a valve gasket. Do you have any videos on how to replace it? Single momma here trying to do this myself and the way you explained everything was very helpful. Thank you
I am glad to hear the video allowed you to successfully change the spark plugs in your car. Indeed, if you had oil where the spark plug came out the valve cover gasket is leaking. At the time I have no video on replacing the valve cover gasket; however, if the opportunity comes my way I will make a video.
I have a 2001 taurus with same motor when I did my coil wires an plugs i just took the black fairings under the windshield off an removed the windshield wiper motor then the whole back is open its alot faster Also did this to replace power steering hose
Hey there. Had a question. I have a 2000 mercury sable with the same engine. Its having issues, think the repair shop hooked up something wrong. The dual hose that comes from the bottom of the egr solenoid isnt plugged into anything. Also underneath the brake booster is a hose thats running from a spicket to the back of the top intake....thats gotta be wrong right?
When you took the EGR off it had one gasket on the bottom. I recently replaced my EGR. I noticed one gasket also. New EGR came with two gaskets so I put one on top. It fit correctly,......no obstruction to outlet. Did I screw up? Car is running fine.
What model was that sable? I had an engine swap in my taurus and have no idea what the engine came out of but it looks exactly like that one. I don't want to purchase the wrong plugs and wires.
The Sable is a GS trim level. There are two engines available in these cars. Furthermore, the eighth digit of the vin will be an S if your car has the same engine.
My 2004 mercury sable has the same engine its low mileage 50k only , recently, on idle only the rpm fluctuating up and down little on idle only , i have no check engine light on also scanner shows no faults .
So I ran into an issue where the spark plug boot hold down bolt ripped out this brass looking part and now I cannot get the hold down bolt to screw into the engine. Its stuck to the boot and hold down bolt. Any help on what the part is called and any solutions would be super appreciated.
I am not sure which part you are referring to on the car. Nevertheless, if you can accomplish doing the job without the deep socket is reasonable. If not, you will know to get a deep socket.

greatl job, thorough and informative
One of the best auto videos I've seen. With all the trouble taking intake off, would you recommend changing coil pack while you're there?
I have a 2001 taurus with same motor when I did my coil wires an plugs i just took the black fairings under the windshield off an removed the windshield wiper motor then the whole back is open its alot faster
Also did this to replace power steering hose
You can loosen the motor mounts and pull the engine forward with a pry bar and eliminate all of the disassembly you just did.
❤
Same thing did my power steering hose an plugs coils ect just take off fairing an windshield motor ez

You did not hurt anything by using the two gaskets. Thank you for watching the video.
Can you just take the manifold off to change the sparkplugs and wires or do you have to remove everything?
After the process is finished, 3. Where does the vacuum hose you install belong to
1.EGR valve 2. Brake vacuum 3. Unknown? 4.PCV valve
Also a great video thanks

Would this work the same with a Sable GS? The black cover has six skinnier lines vs the three thick ones in your video
Hi good afternoon, a quick question. Is that the egr sensor behind that spark plug
On the back spark plugs
My exact engine
So I ran into an issue where the spark plug boot hold down bolt ripped out this brass looking part and now I cannot get the hold down bolt to screw into the engine. Its stuck to the boot and hold down bolt. Any help on what the part is called and any solutions would be super appreciated.
I don't have a deep socket can I skip taking that part off. I have came this far with no issues til that part.
I am not sure which part you are referring to on the car. Nevertheless, if you can accomplish doing the job without the deep socket is reasonable. If not, you will know to get a deep socket.
Plug 6 is up front ???????? Please tell me it is and I don’t have to take all this apart lol
What he say
Count the number of times he says "take", it's weird.
