  • Another sweet bit of film about the Isle of Man dating to the 1960s I guess. This was produced by the Manx Press Pictures, for the Isle of Man Tourist board. It shows mainly holiday type places and people from Douglas, and some other atrractions from around the Island.
Sounds like this would have been a very full holiday back in the 1960s...

This was our summer holiday destination each july when the days felt long and sunny and carefree...I love looking back but it seems like a million years away now! 😢
We stayed in a guest house in Tynwald Street and the landlady was called Mrs Wright...she was originally from liverpool...happy days and part of my childhood memory book ❤

I remember that Isle of Man from my childhood. I weep when I see films of how it has become. It's beautiful days are over.

Lovely video. Nice to see it in its heyday too. Interesting to see the building of Summerland and its futuristic vision bearing in mind the tragedy that befell it :-(
Like so many seaside places, it is now a shell of its former self.

I remember those horse trams whilst on holiday in 1969 . Didn't life seem to be more enjoyable then .everyone seemed happier then.

Yes. I was born there and it was a wonderful place. What a horrible world we have now. So sad to see Britain now. I have stayed put in the land of my birth. I am not as happy as i was. But i pray that the English Scots welsh and lovely Irish people will one day recover their countries.

Was a magical place back in the 70s. I'm sure it could be again if officials were replaced with people who had heart and soul.

I know the Isle of Man since I went there first in 1979. I must say I find it quite magical still, although it doesn't burst from tourist anymore - apart from the TT weeks.

Have been 4 times in the last 25 years. Love it. You will not be spoon fed amusements but if you have imagination and put in some effort then it can still be a very pleasant place to go with a slower pace of life and feeling very safe still.

we went as a family for 10 years and always stayed in Port Erin. I went back a couple of times with friends when I was in my teens. We loved Silverdale and Rushen Abbey.

I am enjoying this Film as I went to the Isle of Man in the 50's we stayed at a Douglas Holiday Camp. We did see a Flower Garden. We never saw the Fairy Garden. Don't suppose that is there now. We love seeing photos which makes me want to visit again though. Thank you for this Video.

Do you know who we'd have to credit to use it?

In comparison, coming to the island now must be like turning up to the Glastonbury festival site a week after the event.

Many happy family holidays 1965-1977. Then it became cheaper to go abroad and almost guaranteed weather.
I’d love to visit again. Sadly they seem to insist on the experimental jab to be allowed in. Ah well.
