The new LC especially was going to better without doubt and it bloody should be. But with around $45k to play with on the Patrol, a small super charger, engine chip tune, better wheel and tyre combo, nice off bullbar, 2" lift, good set of driving lights and you would still have around $25k to spend on free fuel and that's a lot of motoring.

Using NSW fuel check, the current the average for 95 unleaded is 183.3, Diesel is 162. So the Patrol will be $13.4 more expensive to run per 100 km. If you do 10 years, 150,000 km it will be over $20k more, if you are a serous off-roader, you could do up to 250,000 or more i.e. the Patrol will cost $33k+ more in petrol. Assuming equal depreciation after servicing costs (if you compare the first perolTiL in 2015, midway redbook info suggests it lost $22.95k vs $26.95k value for the Toyota but then you have video noted extra servicing costs for the Patrol....) , given the Landcruiser's newer tech, better looks, sharper interior it is worth the extra dough (even at the 150k mark); the key reason to get the Patrol is for interior space, rear screens or you cant afford the initial very steep extra $45k.

As a grey nomad I am concerned with towing weights but more importantly payload of the vehicle. Both the patrol and the previous V8 cruiser had appalling payloads for vehicles of there size. Not once did you mention payload. There is only 2 of us in the vehicle so dont need all the seats. Being in our 60s don't need all the tech like apple car play, lane assist or anything else tech related. Don't want DPF or add blue and all the issues that go with that. Just want a comfortable affordable vehicle capable of towing 3.2T for up to 500,000 kms with few issues like sensors etc that strand you in the middle of nowhere with no chance of fixing it yourself.
Am hearing ya mate.. Im a diesel tech and the last thing I wanna do is fix my own car after work.. diesels dead in the passenger vehicle market anyway by 2025 euro 7 comes into play and you most likely won't see a diesel at a dealer, I myself will be getting on the petrol bandwagon as thermal efficiency is now almost as good as diesel but with way less consequences, no EGR, ad blue or DPFs.. for now anyway, prime time to buy a petrol, diesels were in there prime before 2007
Rubbish review. For me when I am towing my Basestation I need a good rear view camera so I can see what is behind my big boxy van before I change lanes. Mirrors don't cut it. The cruisers discotech screen simply gets in the way! And playing with touch screens while driving is highly questionable. No split tail gate either.
Don’t know why Australia still getting this old patrol instead of new one. The new Patrol Platinum edition is way better than this. It’s better than LC300. Interior is gorgeous and comes with 2 displays in centre. Check out Patrols in middle east and u’ll understand.
40K price difference is more than that in reality. If you don't spend and even put it in a decent investment, you get free fuel for the patrol and keep $40k. The price just obscene. But you know, I am all for free choice, and if people choose to waste money, good on em.
Maybe in your next video you can compare a LC 80 series against the Y62 and tell us how the dash in the 80 series seems dated in comparison. What a genius..
no mention of the fact that the Nissan's dash is 10 years old (at least0 or that the European and U.S. models are vastly superior. or when questioned, Nissan's reply "we listen to our customers". again no mention of an unjustified LCT on both vehicles. maybe to make it fair you should have compared the 300 to a 1982 cruiser. what I just witnessed AGAIN is a fully paid PR blurb for Toyota. you must be really frightened to speak out else Toyota stop loaning you vehicles. make it honest by having a banner run across the bottom telling the viewer it's a paid advert.
It would be good to see a proper review done by someone that isnt biast and can review both vehicles open minded, Few things mentioned against the patrol are simply just not acurate, would be interested to see an un biast review
The other thing that pisses me off about these car makers is they just take the Australian buyer for granted and this goes for Toyota, but now Nissan. Why didn't Australia get the upgraded Nissan Patrol, to be charging that sort of money for this old design is just a plain rip off.
@@zoltrix7779 from what I understand, the patrol interior upgrade was only designed for left hand drive vehicles, still pathetic from such a large car maker.

Apparently Nissan have started work on the Y63, think I'll wait for that, also 8.9L on a large 4x4 is BS, maybe down hill with the wind behind ya, most dual cabs with real world results don't do much better than that, set of 31in tyres on my wife's dmax does 10 per 100 on the highway
I got 9 litres per 100 km on the Sydney Byron holiday in the Y62 , it shocked me better than manufacturers claims which is the opposite for the Toyota where real world is much worse. Wow what a Toyota advertising budget means to our business ….fake reviews ….
From all other media tests fuel consumption is nowhere near 8.9. It will be interesting when someone that’s not toyota bought does a load test fuel test.
Nissan patrol feels really old inside. Not too sure how the ride compares with the other models without the KDSS. KDSS plays a significant role in making the ride comfortable. All the Patrol models come with HBMC. Also, Info about the camera is incorrect. Camera- patrol also has 4 cameras. 360 degree view camera. Also another feature in the Patrol is the rearview mirror screen which actually gives you a very wide view of the rear side when driving. Would have been nice if it was in the Toyota too. LC 300 is definitely more modern looking inside. Not too sure what Nissan has on offer for Australia against LC 300. May be an updated Patrol?
maybe Patrol is older and does not have all LandCruiser's features, but price difference compensates the lack of that stuff. and as for me, Patrol is more reasonable thing to purchase.
Wow so expensive you would never dare to go off road. Just a glorified tow vehicle in my eyes. What happened to a basic large solid reliable 4wds with a price tag mums and dads can afford.
Thats called a ute based wagon, eg MU-X, Everest etc. Its just that people in the modern world have decided thats not good enough for them. People in the modern world arent honest about what they actually need.
Not sure why anyone would compare a new 4x4 to one that has been around for over 10 years with only minor updates during that time. Waste of time watching. Wait until Nissan release a new model and then compare.
After watching this review and the posts I realised how cheap MuX is compared to this larger SUVs. The MuX can tow 3.5 t and it has pretty much same tech of LC300 and 7 seaters yet it is 40% of LC GR price.
I have Nissan 2018 Armada (USA version of Patrol) i would take it any day over LC300. That 5.6 revs so quickly it's ridiculous. Towing 7k lb camper like it'snot there. I'm thinking of getting second one, because there is no other SUV that can match its performance for the price...
10+ year old Patrol vs a brand new LC- I don't think it was a fair comparison. That being said, what about the price? I don't recall you mentioning their price tags (maybe I missed it?).
It’s not a 10 year old patrol. It’s a brand new current tech patrol V’s a brand new current tech LC. It’s a fair comparison. Either way, I’d have the patrol and have a spare 45-50k in fuel money.
In my opinion, the LC300, which is the tad smaller then the LC200, is just far too small for the 3rd row and really should not have a 3rd row, just as tested here, and should be for all LC300 to be only 5 seats. On the patrol, the interior can be updated (with after market), but it does have a lot more space. I have driven a patrol, and it is a lot more comfortable then what he said, and you do not hear much from outside the 4b. The roads he drove on look to be excellent roads compared to roads here in Queensland, and both seem to look the same with ride comfort. Next time they do a compare like this, I hope they get someone that is nautural to any brand, not like this and only for toyota. For everyone, when looking for a 4b, test drive all the 4b's and choose the one the best suits you and the future plans you have.
Mmm , pretty one sided, he said at least twice “it feels like a 10-15 yo car” lmfao well hello … it is!! .. Taking nothing away from the cruiser very sweet vehicle … still for the price difference I could accessorise a patrol to my liking and still have money for fuel to travel round aus multiple times ,
No to v6 diesel No to all the BS tech And no to 8.9 litres per 100, why do Toyota think that anyone buying a LC 300 (other than range) is price concious of fuel, and worst actually thinks buyers believe those contrived numbers. Shish
Both of my dream cars being compared head to head. Obviously the TLC 300 series had to win. But i love the stature of the patrol with its NA 5.6l engine. Ironically the future me who will come back and read this would have bought both. Heck, why not!
Good to see that the caravan in the tow test was (only) 2.8T. That's about the practical safe limit for any of these tugs with claimed 3.5T towing capacity. Unless you don't mind the tail wagging the dog at inopportune times.
Paid advertise or a review?second two head romm and leg room? Third row seat that is missing in a land cruiser, tuning it upgrading potential since Australian market is known for dualcab conversions and heavy towing, GR being the second from the top and the patrol ?
Most reviews I have read counter your suggestions that the Landcruiser is better on road. The Patrol has independent suspension all round and hydraulic levelling suspension.....proven to give better road holding. Also you are in the minority over engine performance, most reviews rave about the VK56 petrol V8 in the Nissan, also this engine has proven itself bulletproof as early variants were fitted to American Commercial vehicles since 2004 (Nissan Titan). I think you made your decision who would win way before starting this test, but the Nissan is 10 years older design, the Landcruiser should be way better. Check 4X4 Australia review, different conclusion. Invest the $40K (thats a huge difference!) and after a few yrs you would have enough money to buy another Patrol! LC300 a good vehicle and so it should be, but $40K more, its not worth it.
I agree with your assessment, that in isolation, the Patrol is a very competent 4WD, but against the LC300, it definitely shows its age. After seeing the LC300's interior, the Patrol's interior looks prehistoric.
Unfortunately Nissan can only blame themselves as other markets get much better interiors while Nissan Australia get the extremely old interior. But for the price gap you can easily get a custom dashboard better camera systems and infotainment systems and still have pocket change to run the car for years compared to the cost of Toyota.
Wow a brand new freshly designed car that costs $45k more is better than a tried and true 10 year old design? Who would have thought. But who has $140k and a year to wait for a new car? And what about when they refresh the patrol next year. Check out the 2021 armada interior. There’s a big clue there.
Check Arabian gulf platinum patrol interior with 3 touch screens and other features than do your comparison. I am really surprised how low feature the Australian patrol have for a nation that love 4x4
Well who knew the Cruiser would win that one. A brand new design against a decade old design did you really expect anything different and with all that Toyota advertising revenue at stake who would dare say anything different. Six months wait? Pull the other one. There hasn’t been one dealer prepared to put an arrival date on any of the 300’s. At least your the first one I’ve seen to open the now huge one piece tail gate. Wasn’t that a step backwards that no one mentions. I have a 2020 Sahara and know a lot of others with 200’s and not one thinks the one piece tailgate is a better idea.
@@PlaydohDookie I take your point and there are times I wish Toyota had made the lower tailgate open both ways like the Falcon wagons in the 70’s used to do. You could drop those down or swing them open. That gave you the best of both worlds. Cheers

The 300 feels more stable under brakes ( because it nose dives compared with the 62)
It seems the 300 is the winner not because it is better than the 62 but because it is better than the 200. Is it really 40% better across the board than the 62 to justify that price rise?
I’d suggest comparing models based on price….Although you can’t get a LC300 for the price of a Ti Patrol.
Maybe Ti up against the GX.
You can compare whatever model you like and the cruiser will come out on top and always has that’s why they hold their value so well, buy a cruiser and it will out live you

Probably because they don't sell many here so, it's a small market compared to the Middle East.
The patrol in US and middle east is not the same as the Australian market
no mention of the fact that the Nissan's dash is 10 years old (at least0 or that the European and U.S. models are vastly superior. or when questioned, Nissan's reply "we listen to our customers". again no mention of an unjustified LCT on both vehicles. maybe to make it fair you should have compared the 300 to a 1982 cruiser. what I just witnessed AGAIN is a fully paid PR blurb for Toyota. you must be really frightened to speak out else Toyota stop loaning you vehicles. make it honest by having a banner run across the bottom telling the viewer it's a paid advert.
It would be good to see a proper review done by someone that isnt biast and can review both vehicles open minded,
Few things mentioned against the patrol are simply just not acurate, would be interested to see an un biast review
Totaly agree 👍🏽

Agree...patrol always stands out off-road...
He is paid by Toyota to wet his pants over it! that sort of money for essentially a 4WD is an utter joke.
Having also seen countless comparisons, I agree.
The other thing that pisses me off about these car makers is they just take the Australian buyer for granted and this goes for Toyota, but now Nissan. Why didn't Australia get the upgraded Nissan Patrol, to be charging that sort of money for this old design is just a plain rip off.
It doesn't even make sense how they justify making 2 different interiors. I assume its irk out another upgrade for current owners.

Yep I think the claimed 200 was like 10.something. No one got better than 14.

Used to love landcruisers but the new one with a TT v6,??? Nissan patrol all the way!

Wow so expensive you would never dare to go off road. Just a glorified tow vehicle in my eyes. What happened to a basic large solid reliable 4wds with a price tag mums and dads can afford.
Thats called a ute based wagon, eg MU-X, Everest etc. Its just that people in the modern world have decided thats not good enough for them. People in the modern world arent honest about what they actually need.

After watching this review and the posts I realised how cheap MuX is compared to this larger SUVs. The MuX can tow 3.5 t and it has pretty much same tech of LC300 and 7 seaters yet it is 40% of LC GR price.
The New MUX has great interior, its 3rd row even beats these 2 Large SUV’s. The real shit is the Fortuner, bumpiest ride of ALL vehicles ever made.

@@markandkim66 it’s an updated patrol (not brand new like LC).
@@markandkim66 Like he said, 'updated' not brand new.

So is the LC300 $40k better?
no towing mpg comparison?
Good to see that the caravan in the tow test was (only) 2.8T. That's about the practical safe limit for any of these tugs with claimed 3.5T towing capacity. Unless you don't mind the tail wagging the dog at inopportune times.
Cruiselander hands down👍. Wife’s got a 200 Sahara, farm truck a 79 Turbo V8, had 60, 80, 100 series and hiluxes. No dramas, all good🙂
Paid advertise or a review?second two head romm and leg room? Third row seat that is missing in a land cruiser, tuning it upgrading potential since Australian market is known for dualcab conversions and heavy towing, GR being the second from the top and the patrol ?
With the price of the GR you could buy a y62 and an Altima. Good Ad, how much were u offered?
It can’t be worth $40k more though…no matter that it’s better…….ridiculous pricing
It's worth what people are willing to pay.

Huge difference in price not a fair comparison. How about you compare the landcruiser with a $150,000 defender?
I agree with your assessment, that in isolation, the Patrol is a very competent 4WD, but against the LC300, it definitely shows its age. After seeing the LC300's interior, the Patrol's interior looks prehistoric.
Unfortunately Nissan can only blame themselves as other markets get much better interiors while Nissan Australia get the extremely old interior. But for the price gap you can easily get a custom dashboard better camera systems and infotainment systems and still have pocket change to run the car for years compared to the cost of Toyota.
anyone can stick an ipad to the dash :)
Patrol still trumps LC300 In terms of interior space, in all 3 rows and the boot space.
LC is nice but astronomically priced and hence hard to say yes to.
Tech is not important off road, in fact the more tech can go wrong, when you are “out there “
That only "tech" thats important is carplay and android auto. And to be honest, thats not really tech.

I do - I hated climbing in to grab stuff from just behind the seats. I've always preferred the GX\Standard model barn doors for this reason.
@@PlaydohDookie I take your point and there are times I wish Toyota had made the lower tailgate open both ways like the Falcon wagons in the 70’s used to do. You could drop those down or swing them open. That gave you the best of both worlds. Cheers

The under armor protecting the important bits is also plastic vs the 200 with steel. I'm starting to think they skimped on that so they could say its lighter. Also didn't most of the 200 lineup have KDSS?

Really high lights how bad the 200 must be, they bag it in comparison to the 300.
No mention of the fact it’s a hot v6 engine that shall be interesting.
The ‘Trol is a cheaper model from ages ago …and that 5.6L V8 revs butter-smooth through its range with a satisfying growl - easily worth spending $4000 on some interior cabin tech. It’ll take many years before you burn enough petrol before you even spend what he Landcruiser costs. On the other hand the Landcruiser is a modern torquey turbo-diesel -- I wonder which I’d get…
