    The fact that a bass at this price point gives you a humbucking/single coil switch is pretty crazy. They don’t even do that for their higher end basses

    Ibanez is one of those companies that started by selling cheap knockoffs, but then decided to set up an R&D department, and now sells actually GOOD stuff without the speciality brand markup

    Haven’t played the bass in years. Saw this same exact bass, and had a reg sr400 back in 99, but I was drawn to it. Plugged it in and instantly fell in love with the sound and going to buy it tomorrow!!

    I've owned many Ibanez basses over the years, including a Premier. I also have 10 other basses -- J's, P's Rick's etc. And the SR400 is my "go-to." It's an absolute monster. Clean, killer tone and even though a boutique finish isn't a priority , I love the look. It's their best bang for the buck.

    Just bought one of these a few months ago and I'm really liking it. However, I've already swapped out the pickups, disabled the power-tap switch so the pickups are always in dual-coil humbucking mode, and installed a Hipshot D-tuner. What I'd really like to do at some point is add an active/passive switch and a passive tone control.

    • @brazenhead262
      @brazenhead262 Год назад +1

      What pickups did you swap these out with? I'd love to know if they're a standard size like Bartolini BC soapbar shape

    • @rattan3793
      @rattan3793 Год назад

      @@brazenhead262 I installed the Aguilar Super Double (4SD-D1) pickups. The original Ibanez PowerSpan pickups seemed a bit muddy and lacked definition when playing with the band. The Aguilars are cleaner and tighter sounding although not as hot as the PowerSpans. To me a definite improvement sound-wise. They are the Bartolini BC shape and pretty much went right in without any modification. You just need to drill two holes for the upper end of each pickup because there are two mounting screws instead of one.

    Hello, I am a 2020 beginner and already have a Yamaha TRBX174EW and would like to upgrade with this Ibanez SR 400. Also important to me is the design, the golden hardware, the light weight and the slimmer neck than the Yamaha.

    I'm confused about the color and the gloss with that bass. Every photo I see of that bass looks flat and not nearly as bright and colorful as the one in this video. This looks to have a high gloss finish where all the others I've seen looks like a dull matt finish. Also, I assume in the video, the signal was a little hot and not the pickups that sounded a little bit distorted?

    • @tarpley-music
      @tarpley-music  6 месяцев назад +1

      Been close to two years since we filmed this video, so it’s possible Ibanez changed the design in 2023 to a matte finish. But quick searches online show it to still be glossy.
      The signal was most likely colored by the ampeg, which possibly distorted it some.

    I'm having issues with mine just bought it and it's out of tune incredibly, has major string buzz and literally can't play notes on the neck any help?

    • @cadetri9716
      @cadetri9716 Год назад +2

      Take it to a local guitar shop and ask for help with a truss rod adjustment. Sounds like the neck is bowed.
      Your action could also be too low. And the issues with staying in tune might dissipate as the strings get broken in.
