When I was a kid my mom had a friend like that who would call and talk and talk and talk. My mom couldn't get a word in edge wise. She would signal to me and I would go ring the doorbell and then my mom could politely say "oh I'm sorry. Someone just rang. I have to go. I have company." This was in the 80s before we had caller ID or anyway of knowing who was calling. Otherwise my mom probably wouldn't answer the phone half the time. 😂
