That literally had me on the floor laughing 😂.
The blueprints were definitely a highlight of the show for me! It streamlined the flow of the episode for viewers and made it easier for us to concentrate on y'all's REACTIONS to what was going on, instead of 'WHAT is actually going on here?'
The blueprints MADE that show. I'm very visual and appreciated them. They summarized and made everything "click" and was a welcomed break. I think they saved time; a picture says a thousand words. The blueprints and narration were as signature as Jamie's beret and white shirt.
They showed a few going on auction to raise money for Grant Imahara's charity shortly after he passed. I also believe that the final episode Mythbusters episode actually did a brief behind the scenes bit for the blueprint sketches.

I have always adored those blueprint drawings. During this discussion they unfortunately didn't get to the question that I've always desperately wanted to know, which is exactly what paper and pen they used for the drawings. The pens seem to have been metallic silver sharpies, but I have never been able to find paper of the same color that accepts the ink properly. Any ideas?
Find some paper that *does* accept the sharpies properly and dye it? Actual blueprints use the cyanotype process. You apply a photosensitive solution made of two iron salts (wikipedia has more details) to paper and let it dry in the dark. Clamp the paper to something which blocks light (a drawing on tracing paper, a piece of seaweed, etc) and expose to sunlight or some other UV light source. UV converts the dry salts to an insoluble blue pigment (Prussian blue). You then wash out the unexposed salts with cold water. The process is fairly cheap and very safe -- you can buy "sunprint kits" that are a bunch of pre-prepared paper sheets, meant for children to use. So you could prepare your paper of choice and expose the whole sheet to get a "blank" blueprint. Or you could skip the light exposure step and just brush Prussian blue ink on the paper.
Two things I'd like to hear more about: 1. How were Blueprints done, technically? I've always wondered what it was like to create them. 2. Can you talk about the brief time with the wonderful Jesse Combs? Sorely missed. Dan

Regarding not telling employer ones multiple other skills: I have always tried to down-play the years spent in advertisement, graphic and interior design, as I can see the tasks that would become my responsibility. Rather, I always try to promote some other colleague, who shows some interest or knowledge in the field required. I rather keep going the way my job is evolving, than return to the thing I left before the current employer.
The funny thing about Blue Prints is they haven't been BLUE in decades. I recall when I started in design in the 1980's they were reproduced as BLUE LINES. Over the years I worked with original Actual Blue Prints but the latest I recall being dated in the 1950's. I also certainly don't miss the smell of either eradicator fluid or the Ammonia from the Blue Print machines!
How does this get produced without showing any of them, is it a rights thing, none of them on hand? Just curious. They were in deed a favorite part of the episodes for me. I always thought it was Adam drawing them though, nice to put a name and a face to them.
Perhaps the biggest drawback from 'Adam Savage's Tested' is that whenever some part of Myth Busters is talked about-- there are no visual references shown so we know what is being talked about. I understand that it's likely either due to budget/time constraints, or legal issues, but it sure would be wonderfully helpful to people like me to actually see clips of what is being talked about. Rant over.
So Eric says "His comics have appeared in the LA Weekly, the SF Bay Guardian, Mad Magazine, and Kramers Ergot. His book UR was nominated for an Eisner Award, humor category." And the toy company Adam worked for appears to be ZOOB. Enquiring minds...

Actual blueprints use the cyanotype process. You apply a photosensitive solution made of two iron salts (wikipedia has more details) to paper and let it dry in the dark. When do we get to see JD Nelson on the show? Would love to see you talk to him.
5:55 Yeah, that's when the company decides to assign you work under "other tasks"...
👍👽
Loved them!
Adam thank you. I asked once and you made a story. Who painted blue prints? Thanks for the story. Have a great weekend.
He is bloody delightful.
Eric IS. So much this.
My Opinion: If im A Business owner and they knocked on my door, they needed something, i woulld say "Sure, take what you want... Just make it spectacular!"
Is there a machine in that cabinet most of this video is centered on, or is that just "x-scale fixturing"?
More importantly, where on earth did you get all of those mini milk-crates?
Thank you.
Wow…this little tid bit of Mythbusters history is great!
I’d always wondered who was involved with it…😎👍
Regarding not telling employer ones multiple other skills: I have always tried to down-play the years spent in advertisement, graphic and interior design, as I can see the tasks that would become my responsibility. Rather, I always try to promote some other colleague, who shows some interest or knowledge in the field required. I rather keep going the way my job is evolving, than return to the thing I left before the current employer.
This guy is the man !
Eric is not only an exceptional artist and producer, he’s an incredible human and universally beloved by the cast, crew and executives!
Great video sir you are awesome
How does this get produced without showing any of them, is it a rights thing, none of them on hand? Just curious. They were in deed a favorite part of the episodes for me. I always thought it was Adam drawing them though, nice to put a name and a face to them.
It’s a rights thing, yes, but we could have used B-roll of the blueprints from the auction. That’s on us.
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Eric HAVEN!!!
Artists make the world better :)
One of my questions made it! Love these videos!!
would be cool to see the originals myth lady from the first 2 seasons who would tell us what the myth was from
Perhaps the biggest drawback from 'Adam Savage's Tested' is that whenever some part of Myth Busters is talked about-- there are no visual references shown so we know what is being talked about. I understand that it's likely either due to budget/time constraints, or legal issues, but it sure would be wonderfully helpful to people like me to actually see clips of what is being talked about. Rant over.
Legal issues - we don’t own the copyright to MythBusters footage, Discovery does, and we’d get immediately demonetized. Ask us how we know!
@@tested Yeah, that's what I thought! Thanks for letting me know for certain, appreciated :)
Who else wants to see Adam do a blueprint intro for his one day builds?
@Tested please make it happen!
Oh, interesting idea!!!!!
Interesting video. I'd like to point out, Adam meant Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, not Big Daddy Kane.
3:58 vibes
was not expecting the rat fink reference here on science youtube
Thanks.
So Eric says "His comics have appeared in the LA Weekly, the SF Bay Guardian, Mad Magazine, and Kramers Ergot. His book UR was nominated for an Eisner Award, humor category." And the toy company Adam worked for appears to be ZOOB. Enquiring minds...
adam, big fan of mythbusters did u make those mini milk crates in your shop or can i buy some
He 3D printed them.
HEY!!!
IT'S ERIC!!!
Okay, I know this is a weird thing to pull out but anybody know what jacket Eric is wearing? 😂 I love it, really want to find one 😊
hey i know where you got those milk crates you 3d printed in the back ground XD im in that patreon too lol....looks like you customized a few of em ;)
"I'm a great finder" of all the logistics things I do... It's basically that.
Dude, you think Boom Lifts are terrifying? Try the one man lifts! Those are down right nightmare fuel. You're basically suspended in a bucket off end of a sloppy telescoping stick. I'm not afraid of heights, but god damn I was wanting to be tied off to anything else other than that damn lift.
Nov 18 2023 I rewatched the boom lift epsiode, and Nov 19 2023 I'm watching this episode.
!!!
I've watched every episode numerous times, am a passionate "Since the debut" viewer (as in planned my nightly schedule around when MythBusters was showing), still love the low-budget slide guitar theme and background music, and enjoy all manner of MB trivia. I knew that there was a male Blueprint Artist for some time, but am I delusional in my recollection of seeing female hands (which I believed were mostly Kari's) in the majority of Blueprint Drawing scenes?
