Mike, you keep your work at this caliber, stagnation in your efforts is something you'll not will have to address. Beautiful captures. If you will, tell Bailey, Hannah and Isaiah I said hey.
This video forced me to create an inspiration playlist on youtube. Great shots! I've been binging your videos the past 24-48 hours. Personality, explanations, color, cinematography, story, images, interactions, information. Literally everything about these videos bring me happiness. I greatly appreciate your contribution to the arts, brother!
@@MikeGrayFilm You’re very welcome. Because of your videos I got myself some film cameras and I have to admit that I really enjoy shooting film again after such a long time. I’ll stay with 35 mm for the moment but I’m already considering getting myself an entry level medium format next year or so.
Damn man, this is crazy. I'm actually moving to Los Angeles to study film at LA Film School, and I'm from South Africa. I found your channel about a week ago and ever since then I've been binging. I love seeing LA in your lens, thank you for creating such amazing work. I'm a creative myself and one thing I must admit is that finding artists who share the same passion I share warms my heart man. Hope you have a beautiful week and keep creating that fire man!
I truly appreciate that Andrea. Good luck to you at LA Film school. I've heard some great things about their program over the years. I'm sure you're going to LOVE IT!
Subscribed... not one regret. Thanks for what you do, I used to paint peoples portraits, & if the model couldn’t sit with me for 5 or 6 hours, I would borrow my brothers Kiev which is a Russian knock off of the Hassy 500 I think, I would shoot them with natural lighting, developed the film & then paint. I wish I had honed my photo craft back then, but I intend to remedy that in the near future...
@@MikeGrayFilm your videos are a real inspiration... I might just have to get me a digital Hassy like the 907x & have some fun, though my wife won’t be too happy 😃
Damm Right you can do what ever you want Mike! There will always be people willing to help you out with the right attitude and work ethic such as yourself. This video makes me want to try out studio shooting 👊🏼 Well done brother
Great work as always bro!! That’s how you grow bro being able to admit what you don’t know and getting some to help you who does know and learning as you go on this journey!! I’m proud of you Mike G! GOD bless!!
I primarily shoot constant/ continuous light in studio. I find comfort in not having to worry about syncing a strobe. Currently, I do find myself wanting to do more experimenting with strobes these days.
If you ever want that low fog on a shoot use a hose or something that will separate and cool the fog away from the machine (ice surrounding a hose helps) learned it on a shoot we did for a Home Depot (Halloween shoot) back in the day
hey man! i’m sure you’ve already answered this- but how did you get the small beam? i’ve been able to get a spotlight, but not a tight beam like the one seen on the models eyes
Another great video with even better photos! I'm more of a run-and-gun guy and haven't learned the studio light sculpting methods the way you have. I want to try it sometime! -Ryan from Utah
fantastic work Mike, this constant lighting techniques are parallel to lighting for theatre to build those great moody cinematic vibes. great to see you trying out different types of photography, all about a great team around you and as the photographer learning to direct and communicate to those departments what your plan is for the shoot.
The first images of Hannah remind me a little bit of the photo of Billy Eilish that's on the cover of her album Happier Than Ever. I know the lighting is completely different but still the way Hannah has her hair and makeup done here reminds me of that and it's beautiful
Great video, always interested in the videos where different lighting is used. Next time it would be super helpful if you could mention the lighting equipment used!
I have noticed lots of your low light photos are VERY clean .. Is this film stock just a very fine grain film or is there some kinda trick other then longer shutter speeds?
Mike, Still like your channel and your fearless approach. A great inspiration. Great to watch you improve and step up each time. Keep it up. Looks like you nailed the exposure in tough light.
oh. oh my goodness. this is wow...
My bro! Thanks

I will do David. I appreciate you!
Wow man one of the best discoveries I made was your channel, love your photography and I keep learning things each time I watch your videos
I appreciate you tuning in Bruno. Means so much!
Stunning photos- not only do they look like album covers, but top notch album covers!
Thanks so much Alex!
Liked the video before I even watched it... keep doing what you do Mike 👏🏽
I appreciate that LaToiya. Thank you.

Thank you

I can appreciate the creative process to build such beautiful and simple lighting.
The video footage from the studio itself is absolutely beautiful, with great angles and color grading. Your cameraman is doing great job (as you do)!
I appreciate it Anton!
First 2 images with the head back love them ..
Once again, you're making incredible imagery, Mike. Can't wait for you to drop the book. That'll be a day one buy!

YOU ARE TOO GOOD AT THIS!!
You’re too kind bro. Thank you!
Hey! Any tips for reducing shadows when using continuous lighting like this? I find mine to be pretty harsh even with a softbox
ok you went OFF on this one. WOW.
Thank you!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Ok man, square photos are fantastic!!! I love Hassy. Great work
I appreciate it!
Like the concept and way the video is presented , the on screen presentation and then the look back and review , very nicely done, dude ..

Just discovered your channel. What is this sorcery?!?! ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥 Great stuff, mate!
Hi ! Amazing pictures.
What's the tungsten lighting you're using? How can you imitate this with an external flash in the studio?
Thank you !

Killed it, again. Nice work!
Thanks Mark!
Loved the works. My favorite was the first one of her with her head back and smoke above. Simple I know but I liked it 😁. As always man skills.

Is it just that one light the whole time? the rest of anything filled is just reflecting light? looks amazing.
For some shots just one, but others we used two lights. Thanks a lot Dan!

This has me inspired to do a studio film portrait shoot. Could be a good way to stay motivated when winter comes along. Great video!

I love this one right here 8:02 💪🏾 the expression, the lighting, the angle and framing are perfect! And Hannah delivered that pose flawlessly 👏🏾
