I was wondering about that after noticing the difference between it and the original. Just wish they came up with a better arrangement for the top shock mount, that's a lot of wasted space that reduces front suspension travel. But for what it is, it's fine. Definitely picking one of these up for my son. He has a Grasshopper and has always wanted a Hornet, but I was always reluctant to buy him what really amounts to duplicate of what he already has. This is different enough while keeping the same style. When I asked him if he wanted this or the original, he immediately said THIS!!! Good job, Tamiya!
I think they should do the grasshopper with a different rear suspension. I think the grasshopper should have a trailing arm.Independence suspension on it.
@@martinhsrc6699 Martin , I say that 'cause they should differentiate the two kits and you get different driving experiences with those suspension differences from each vehicle.
Its fun to see more of the retro cars and that those get raced more and more. The only bad part is that tamiya got the hard brittle plastic that brakes easy eaven in a light crash.
They seem to have properly addressed anything to this icon RC buggy that needed to be improved (about time, one could say...) - definitely getting one!
Hi Martin, oh yes I agree this is so interesting, I don't have a Hornet in my collection so this could be the one for me! TTP is offering it at a great price, I'll keep my eye on his website! All the best mate! P.S. Wow, 995 subs, almost at 1K, way to go, well done!!! 😎👊👍
I have a special connection with this car as probably many of u do especially if u grew up in the 80s and 90s.this was our go to car back in the day because they were cheap and that gearbox was tough.but it definitely had its issues but Tamiya really fixed those problems.and to give us ball bearings it cant get any better.
I love it especially the way it still looks like a Hornet. I bet you an old puffed up lipo that they also release a Grasshopper evo .Grasshopper 2 evo would be brilliant.
I'm definitely getting one. And I'll get one for my brother aswel. Although I just restored my original 1984 one from my childhood. Also currently rebuilding my Falcon aswel. I'd like to see a release of the Falcon and Striker aswel. The Falcon was 1986 so hopefully 😅
@@martinhsrc6699 I think it would sell like crazy. Maybe with a C.V upgrade instead of the dogbones. And independent suspension. But I'd like to see original release first. From rumors I heard. They've misplaced the dies for the front bulkhead. So new dies may need to be made. And that's the reason apparently why we haven't had a re-release.
A carbon reinforced UJ's the kitchen sink Bigwig ceramic bearings but keep moon craft wheels and dare I say it super gripper tyres. nice channel keep it up😂
First time I have debated getting a Hornet or one of the other buggies based off of that chassis. I am hoping that this leads to some similar updates to the design for the Midnight Pumpkin , Lunch Box, and maybe some of the other iconic old Tamiya kits... bearings, ouls shocks, and updated suspension/steering would probably have a lot more tamiya kits landing on my wish list, and farther up that list.
Im loving it, i think its great to call it the evo, as thats what it is. An evolution of the hornet. Im deffo getting one but, i have an idea in mind for the body allready 😁
Been in the hobby for over 35 years and I have to say THANKYOU TAMIYA.to say I'm excited is an understament.what an amazing model of the Hornet.ive been dicking around for months with ampro double wishbone then I tried the DT02 rout but that gearbox no matter what I did I couldn't get it to stop hopping.but Tamiya has awnsered all my prayers I love this and I'm so lucky I'm around to see the 80s and now I get to see 40 years of the Hornet and 50 years of Tamiya.this is awesome.this is why I love Tamiya and have hung in there all these years.
While keeping the hornet chassis means that the front shock towers are a little weak and the battery box lid is a problem it is a great idea as it means competitions that make std hornet chassis legal and parts optional means hornet evo is legal to drive.
I am still waiting for Porsche 959/Toyota Gr.B rere wanting it to show up next year. Other than that, the only other rere that Tamiya has not done were the 3 speed ladder frame duo of the Toyota 4x4 and Blazing Blazer. Sure there were many iteration of Bruiser but not the models that started them all. I believe Hornet Evo is brilliant in Tamiya's way repackaging tired old chassis into something (kind of) new. They have a bulletproof gearbox (how many dt-03 brushless videos out there in social media? Plenty!) that can handle loads of power and will definitely turn hornet into a beast. For once, bravo Tamiya! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I see you have the Grasshopper a great car I had as a kid. I just picked up a Candy Green Grasshopper at Suoer Rajikon in Tokyo last weekend on a work trip. I will be looking for the Hornet Evo and buy it when released but sure it's not 65 AUD as in Japan Tamiya cars and hop ups are so cheap.
I like what I see with the Hornet Evo. Back in the 80’s I had a World Engines Rockbuster (same as the Academy Roadrunner). I have that car again as I recently found a new old stock one on ebay. It hops around quite a bit with the floating gearbox and pogo spring front. The Evo should fix that. I had a DT02 Sand Viper and the gearbox was great. For 2025 for the 50th I’d like to see a Falcon Re-Re. They have parts compatibility with other cars like the Blitzer Beetle so it shouldn’t be that difficult. If they are doing the Hornet Evo it would be cool to see a reimagined Frog as well. I don’t think Tamiya will re-Re the 959 exactly the way it is. The tobacco livery is a problem because it’s tobacco but also that particular company is no longer in business. They could do the basic street silver and then we could get decals. For me I’m ok with them doing a Re-Re on a newer chassis but a lot of folks aren’t
The Rockbuster sounds cool, I think I’ve seen a Road Runner on another channel interesting car. I think the Falcon will come eventually. I do hope Tamiya surprise us with whatever the 50th car is, just hope it’s not another 911, I know it was car number one but it’s been done for nearly every anniversary so far.
@@martinhsrc6699 the 934 RSR was their first RC car. A road going version would be nice maybe, but they should pick a good rear biased 2WD platform. It would be nice to maybe include hard plastic scale parts. It’d be also nice if they could include a clipless body mount. A Lamborghini Countach Re-Re on a 2wd chassis would be a good option
Would have preferred a Super Hornet (EVO), so at least we could get the body (and the wheels) 😊 Still a good idea while recycling their parts bin👍Little warning, the 50 years of Tamiya are in 2 years, the Porsche 58001 appeared late 1976 (and the 30th anniv. Porsche in late 2006). But we never know with Tamiya 😉
@@martinhsrc6699 I have a lot of British friends, and this is the first and only time I have ever heard it pronounced like that. All of them pronounce it a little bit differently, but I think it's pretty well established that the last syllable is "yuh".
The front end looks like a brace over the standard chassis, this should be a good upgrade for existing hornets etc too.
