- We are racing against time to get as Manny Chieftain Tanks to our Local Show (Operation Market Harborough) this weekend.
So we set about getting the (Goldeneye Chieftain) up and running,
this vehicle hasn't ran since its use in the film back in 1995.
Getting it going in a Day is going to be quite the Challenge!
A chieftan in bits with the majestic vista of the British countryside behind it............ wonderful..

In order to avoid destroying the pavement on the city streets of St. Petersburg, the steel off-road tracks of the T-54/55 were replaced with the rubber-shoed tracks from a British Chieftain tank.
It was AT55 used in golden eye..
Only the tracks from a chieftain was used..
No chieftain was used. Come on guys.
@@dannygand153 I seem to remember in an earlier episode they showed a clip from Goldeneye - this was parked in the background as the T tank drove by - they aren't suggesting this is the star tank in the movie, but it was in it!

Honestly, having an entire tank workshop be a bunch of low brick buildings in the middle of the English countryside is the most properly British thing I've ever seen. And it's glorious.
And as unreliable as the L60 is, it has a fantastic sound to it.

It's not unreliable it's just highly stressed and looked after by the REMY so it's job creation writ large ,
It was once a major fortified Manor of some deal of importance, but Long gone, but for odd remains and a dark reputation.

I was an American tanker, I have had my share of activating tanks that have been sitting outside in storage depots, this was fun to watch.
Can you imagine how Ivan is working atm? They have so many, very poorly stored tanks,in much colder conditions.
Judging by what I’ve seen on certain yt channels that look at sat pics, they’ve almost depleted the stores too.
Fair play to the mechanics but I don’t envy the poor chaps using them in anger.
Imagine clunking, smoking & rattling over a hill in a ropey T72 that’s been sat in a field for 20years, to be faced by a couple of Abrams. You’d want to just stick it in reverse and get out of there but that’s not even an option for a healthy t72 😂

I love your optimism, will be driving by 11. Meanwhile, two in the morning comes round just to find a gearbox problem. Typical for a grind job when it “has to” happen. I can’t wait for part two. That’s some nice work guys, saving another piece of history.

To be fair, a lot of L60s fitted to active chiefies in the 70/80s turned out be be on a temporary basis. The good old days as a REME A mech. One new pack lasted one mile.
That engine was the least of the problems.

Got to take my hat off to you. This from someone who is struggling to justify the cost of restoring my 52 year old Suzuki GT750 - I can't imagine how much all this costs! Great dedication.
If that's the Suzuki 750 Water-bottle you have then justification is a given. No price too high. 🏍
This Chieftain was also used in an episode of Red Dwarf in 1997 as can be seen by the stencil "343" on the hatch in the episode :)

I much preferred the Brosnan Bond than Daniel Craig's one, showing my age here but I grew up with Roger Moore as Bond, and the Spy Who Loved Me my favourite Bond film of them all, Great vid Mr Joe, 👍👍👍👍👍

It's a shame, Daniel Craig is a good actor but his bond is very poorly written.
I too grew up with Roger Moore as Bond but I never liked the campiness and clownish path that they went down with him and and Pierce Brosnan. Goldeneye was great but each one got worse till Die Another Day just about killed Bond with its stupid gimmicks and storyline.
The sound of a chieftain instantly takes me back to my youth and my time as a driver mech love your videos goosebumps best job I ever had 😂

I always referred to it as the “Factor of Four”. For every 4 minutes of fun driving/shooting a tank there is 4 hours of backbreaking maintenance
That looked like a very long day.

I love the approach, 29 years, stood in the rain, give us a week, …but we pulled our spare engine pack and a spare dash board….out of stores….. love it…

Hats off to the pair of you for all the painstakingly hard work you did just to get the thing started, let alone moving under her own power. Bloody good day and a bits, hard work proving you do know what you're doing, despite the very small minority out there in YT land. I'd like to see anyone else do the job these lads do, in as short a time with all the complications of sorting out the wiring of the dash and all connectors etc !!! Jack and Joe, that was an incredible feat of keeping yourself motivated, despite the additional complications. Just wish I could get to the show next weekend, but will never be able to get there, despite desperation factor of 10/10. Still, hope you have a good one and all involved, enjoy themselves, as they did at the last show. As always, Ted did the behind the scenes hard work to perfection. For that Ted, you should get a nice big juicy bone.
With Ted providing mechanical text book knowledge, moral support, drive, the lads have achieved. Well done Ted and the Lads.

That was a really great effort. It is a good feeling when you work together with a good team that you know well and then achieve against the odds. There is no stopping you guys and girls.

I recently watched Goldeneye and was looking out for this tank and I got to say it actually looked really cool with the fake ERA blocks on it
The funny thing is that a lot of Russian tank crews in Ukraine found out the hard way that the ERA blocks on their tanks were fake too.
@@cogboy302Even worse is that some of them are getting T55's which have not even been attempted to look modern with fake ERA lol.

Ya know. Before stumbling upon this channel I never even knew that I needed a Foden. Heh.
Spill timing works really well, just follow the workshop manual. I had to learn from scratch when refitting a new injector pump to a Mack EME9 V8 truck engine.
Your forklift is well named I watched it all the time you were talking and it never moved.
That Foden Recker is a bloody beast.
