Lol I have 2 bearded dragons so having to have 2 hoods, 2 uvb lights replaced every 6 months, and 2 100watt heat bulbs it gets pricey pretty quick. Getting all the lights was a good $250. Just dropped $225 on a new tank (I still need to buy one more for my other beardie). I spend about $60 a month on buggos (I'm in an apartment, dont think theyd like me to be breeding roaches and what not). And exotic vets at way more expensive than normal dog and cat vets. Our place is $100 just for the exam fee. So I mean, not all exotic animals are cheap. These guys looks like you get to cut out the bugs but still, pricey pricey. Unless ur gonna go the dirt cheap route, but I prefer stuff to look nice not shitty
Dominik's Geeky Life because dogs only need leashes food water and of course a dog bed. People are usually taken a step back when they see they need a lot of care for “just a lizard” I agree with u tho
James O’Shea I have 2 leopard geckos and a dog my dog is more expensive to take care of then both my geckos together my dog was 1250 and she was a rescue not from a puppy mill her food costs $35 per week not including treats she needs sweaters because she gets cold easily special made collars so they don’t slip off her head when wearing them you also need to be prepared if they have to go to and to get spayed or neutered. She’s needed to have her stomach pumped a lot which is a lot of money + toys for entertainment a bed etc. note this is a small dog can you imagine how much for a big dog big dogs vet bills cost more and shots and food is like $300 a month. yes my geckos are expensive but not as expensive as my dogs
Muffin Bobuffin I don’t buy sweaters for my dog, when I walk her she only wears this jacket. My dog doesn’t need her stomach pumped because she now knows better. She also has
James O’Shea my dogs one of the smartest dogs in Canada and even she needs her stomach pumped and gets sick just like a normal dog she also has like no hair so she gets cold very easily
when i had my mali i rinsed his food in water and sat his food in a food wish with a little bit of water in it. he was pretty happy and still got what he needed to stay hydrated...
Looking to set up my terrarium for a uromastyx in the coming days and found this video very helpful. Thank you! I'm finding it pretty hard with the substrate though. Seems there are a lot of different opinions.
My Mali loved cockroaches. He even had a technique for eating them: bug-in-mouth, Godzilla would slam against the glass wall, crushing the head in to stop the legs from twitching before consuming. He was as interactive as a dog or cat. Best lizard I've ever kept. RIP 1997-2006
My biggest problem is getting the UVB to reach the animal. I have a 36 x 18 x 18 cage and it is hard to get the logs and rocks high enough. Even with a 10.0 UVB tube, right under it 7 or 8 inches away only produces a 4.2 on the UV Index Ferguson Zone. How is it that you get UVB readings high with the lights being that far away?
I have a question: so my uromastyx just pooped for the first time and when I went to grab him, I looked at my hand and it was covered with poop. How do I clean my uromastyx because I heard baths are bad for them. Anything?
Can someone help me in what substrate I should get? I’m getting two of them in a pretty big tank and I’m in crossroads between sand, gravel, and white mellet seed.
Don’t get sand it can cause impaction (look it up), white Keller seed is probably safe but do your own research cause I’ve never heard of it used for a substrate, and if you use gravel get big gravel pieces so they’re too big for the uromastyx to choke on same with the white mellet seed, honestly just use eco earth it’s perfectly safe and cheap.
@@an_egg6334 sand usually causes impaction in animals with other health problems. Look at Dav Kaufman's video on "The Best Uromastyx Breeder in Europe". This decades-long breeder uses a base substrate of play sand, topped with larger pieces of granite gravel. His Uros thrive.
Hey I've had a uromastyx for a 2 years and I've been only feeding him lettuce for pretty much his entire existence. I recently went to the pet store and the guy there said he was pretty healthy but I don't know if there some how is a risk to this. If someone would explain/tell me any information it'll be much appreciated thanks.
You shouldn't really feed any type of lizard only lettuce because it has virtually no nutritional value. You wouldn't want your Uromastyx to develop MBD (Metabolic Bone Disease) from malnourishment. I'd suggest trying to feed him kale, greens including collards and mustard, bok choy, and many other nutrient dense greens. Variety is key. You can also feed them sprouted seeds, dandelions, hibiscus flowers, and occasional small insects such as gut loaded crickets (fed nutrients before feeding them to your lizard) in small amounts. Also spritzing his food with a bit of water is a great way for them to maintain hydration. Hope this helps! 😊
Try adding variety to their diet, they love tasting all sorts of veggies! If they still won't eat after so much time with you, though, please take your uro to the vet. If you have decent husbandry then it might be a health issue from before you got them, and a vet might be able to help you put them back on track to being healthier.
Any tips on pairing 2 up in the same tank? one i've had for about 13 years, and the other would be a re-homing and is much younger... about 2 years or so maybe. I currently have a 40 gal. breeder for the one grown female I've got. what things should i consider? If this younger one is a male with they fight? is 40 gal. breeder large enough for two? the new one is one of the yellow ones and the older female i own is more of a black and yellow spots on her back. Please help, any advice would be great
RenegadeHart that’s definitely too small, even for the one. Best to have a four to six foot long tank by two feet by 1-2 feet up. I feel bad for your Uros :/
hi, I just went to a reptile expo and bought "peg leg pete" the seller Said it was from fighting that he lost his bavk.leg and he also has a swollen from toe and his other back foot is missing toes. I was just wondering if I should keep an eye out for any other issues. or if fighting was most likely the cause. I had to save this poor baby, I have a soft spot for the "loser" misfit animals haha
Most definitely from fighting one of my females bit a smaller sibling so hard she broke her jaw and killed her they can be so rough like lizard pitbulls with each other...Not smaller uros species I have the common bright red yellow ones they can be so vicious
I got Uromastyx had her almost 11 years and I don't give her water, just spray light mist on food before feeding her and doing well
What’s your set up?
My uromastyx is about 4/2 months
old
Why do people think UVB lamps are expensive? Having a dog is way more expensive.

Wow probably the best care video ive seen. Way to go! ive had a mali for 15+ years now. used to be very active but is now old and cranky
when i had my mali i rinsed his food in water and sat his food in a food wish with a little bit of water in it. he was pretty happy and still got what he needed to stay hydrated...

Thank you. Very helpful, I’m thinking of getting one so I’ve been looking for videos for tips and advice.
I want one but 120-130 degrees..
lol ikr
Dope Trends i think he means F°
Use a ceramic heat emitter will save a lot of money on electricity
New to having a uromastryx i am using a 75watt reg bulb and a heat emitter. Is that OK,?

R.i.p Godzilla
@@tararose3497 yep lol
Clicked on your amazon link, doesn't work
0:23 what type is that guy with a short stubby tail?

From where I can buy one? I am from Greece..
there's a lot of them here in the middle east 😜
I have a question: so my uromastyx just pooped for the first time and when I went to grab him, I looked at my hand and it was covered with poop. How do I clean my uromastyx because I heard baths are bad for them. Anything?
You can give him a rub down with a towel. They're okay to have a short bath as long as you dry them off well.
Damp clean cloth is ok
Wow what type of cage were they in? So nice!
what basking bulb would you reccomend?
Kate Newcomb ive been using halogen par 38 flood bulbs gotta figure the wattage yourself for your setup not a general statement to much depends
I'd use a 160 watt Powersun. They hold both UVB and heat. 100 watts is 90-110 F, so the 160 should easily be 120-140 F.
how can you tell if a Uromastyx is a Egyptian ?
If it gets big and some patterns
Very big and dull usually black no markings I mean like a monitor big
I have one and it don’t want to eat very skinny and don’t want it to die need help 😩
where are u guys?
Holy shit 130 degrees! also they probably take in all the water they need from their greens.

Can a yellow and red uramastic live together without fighting
The Reptile King I think you can
Yes
I am actually on the way home with two of them

This dude looks like the guy from Wicked tuna
Do yhey need any heat nightlights?
Only if your night time temperatures drop below 18°C (65°F). A ceramic heater would be best in that case since it only gives off infrared light
Hey you think you could give me message back i have one but it hasn’t eat since i got it i have ubv light and 100w heat light

0:49 I'm from the hottest city in Saudi and I can confirm that statement. XD Summer in Austin TX is paradise compared to that.

am really sorry to say that Arabs eat that kind of lizard
I believe it's not illegal to eat them in Saudi Arabia but hunting them in large amounts is illegal.
