- In the West African desert, gathering and hauling salt is a grueling task, not left for the meek. Camel caravans still move the tablets to market.

I have been to the Sahara twice. The 2nd time it snowed, the people had never seen snow before. At night it was so cold it was impossible to sleep. I had 6 blankets, was fully clothed and was in a building. These conditions are extreme, but the people take it in their stride.
Global warming at it's finest.
@@jjs8426 Pfff what
Hard life + hard work = extreme conditions to the limit.
Only camels seem to be serene :/
Camels 🐫 looked confused “what’s with the back and forth trip dude with rocks on our back”
Normal people would simply die in that desert, unless they had a good guide and measurement of water consumption. Not even talking about the work itself.
"Down to the last litre or two of water "
*Makes tea*
Priorities..
Real men . Facing harsh situations calmly .. salute to em
Gotta think twice before I waste the salt at McDonald’s
Anthony R nice thought
That salt comes from oceon. But still dont waste it.
Most countries produce their own salt, stop being a brainwashed lefty
nah fool I waste that salt on....me burgers
@@kurdaitcha5806 bro... how were they being a "brainwashed lefty" for not wasting salt? pretty sure it was also a joke...
That 2007 life.
omg taco stacks i love your videos
Hi
I hope their lives now are better than 11 years ago.
They’re probably dead
Adam Hartshorn oh 😢
Any particular reason why they would be?
Mickey Bitsko look at the conditions they live in and its almost been a decade. Ill bet that they are dead
I thought the video was depressing now I'm really depressed thanks guys!
I just noticed that this video is 10 years old.
Hãris حارس LoL
Might as well be 100 years
Yeah
" they send a guy to hunt down a rumoured well" now that sounds promising!
Omg, respect to the ppl who live there. 👊 I suddenly feel so grateful of what I have now.
11 years later it appears in my recommendation list ......
I learn new things when I'm on the toilet :)
Lol
She said Syrian dessert instead of Sahara dessert
They travel through both deserts
She said Sahara...idiot
This makes me appreciate my cardiovascular disease that much more.
pov: you're watching this for homework you should have done 3 days ago
2 💀💀💀
One guy with a jackhammer and a dune buggy would own that industry.
Sniper Cat Dr noone needs that much salt
all that for salt? seriously? that much salt is dumped on a winter road in about .1 second.
J S they are mining higher quality NaCl, road salt is relatively impure CaCl2
Gautam Iyer dam. Who thought you this?
john son of Morris science ......definitely science
Gautam Iyer his answer came 7 years later xD
Is everyone in this thread still alive?? Just asking!
Amazed!
Anyone know where I can find the full episode? Or is this 3-minute version the final cut.
Veo 16 did you find the episode?
I slaute those doing this job.
There is no sea for them to collect salt. The only option they have is to mine it. It's a job, so someone has to do it.
I expected people playing CS:GO.
I expected DrDisrespect playing PUBG
Woj Tek add me on steam 😂😂😂
Time Will Change Soon...God Bless You All..
Going to have to remember this next time some woman says being a mom is the hardest job on Earth LOL
*Give them a LAND CRUISER ALREADY*

When I heard the words..."heading south to Timbuktu"....said it all
DONT GIVE UP BUDDY 👍
That camels are tough, too.
Living life the hard way!!
They're literally traveling from here to Timbuktu.
Wow and I thought my poison ivy sores were bad. Those salt wounds look very uncomfortable!
Wow...
Can they hurry up my popcorn is ready and my salt shaker is empty.
How much do they make for each tablet?
What about the guy the sent out to find another well?! Did I miss something? Lol
Wow
Nice
Is THIS where the World's salt comes from?!?!?!
No
Iam stupid so i ask
What the different between salt mine like this and salt from sea?
Rakasiwiii fiddihaq... I will wait together with you until someone answer
Gotta love that 4:3
Lol my friend says its a far away in the middle of kno where in Timbuktu lol
I love how camera crews that belong to multi million dollar companies just hang with these guys and in the end they're just like "Yeah, It would be a drop in the bucket to get you guys some real shoes and water containers, but instead of that, you can just go back to being 100% screwed."
Lame comment

I wonder what that Tea taste like?
No sir, that is incorrect and painfully obvious.
Acceptable response being: Sal-Tea! I bet it taste Salty
It sounds so remote
I wonder if they still do salt carvans in 2022?
As long as the camels don't care
Very tough job
Which salt is that?
2007 life 🥹

YO WHATS GOODDD FELLOW MS POPA STUDENT!!!! I just started this school year and I already hate her :(
I know it's Timbuktu, but it sounds like she's saying $10.02 (ten buck two.)
ooooooh i just realized that this video is three years old smaller then me ya LOL
Life is a continue struggle.
Why they doing that? Dried up the sea is easier than mining
Drimz How they make money, no other jobs there
Kevin Ma they have no sea?
Drimz They mine that salt because it’s very pure because that is a ancient ocean so it is very pure.
Mali has no shore it is locked in the middle of the desert
@@kevinma8212 McDonalds.
You know some guy is exporting that salt and charging $1500 lb for it.
Thats really miserable 😞
They'd be clean sores though
why can't someone introduce them to plastic bags so that the rain will not effect their salt blocks?
This might be a stupid question and if it is, please forgive me, but why don't people collect hundreds of buckets of sea water and leave it in the sun until the water evaporates and get all the salt in the world for free just for carrying buckets 100 metres back from the shore? Surely it would be easier.
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I came here because of school and so did you.
And you thought you had it hard
epic beans
you misunderstood my point
I can't wait for us to run out of salt.
So do you understand now why they rather risk it all crossing the sea to Europe than mining salt
Why don't they use the GPS on their iPhone?
Security Guy Forgot their charger
Need a hard time patient just to earn money...in a proper way.your all amazing people.
I’m here for school lol
Apparently Tin Buck Two is a real place
Worlds toughest jobs but only when performed in a third world fashion.
I thought people mainly got salt from the ocean.
i thought being a mom was tougher.
Mesakne 😭
Be thankful for what you have...... Most people across the world risk their lives for minimal wages
Id rather be the caravan driver than the salt miner
Anybody else reading Men Of Salt?
I'm not sure if I did heared it right but the narrator said in the middle of the Syrian desert okay there's no such thing because where they at it's in Africa and Syria in the Middle East I don't know how is that
Yeah ive been mining salt too on csgo
Very hard life.
Poor camels man
Kaden Holdaas no
In the middle of the "syrian" desert?
and yet actors and actresses are compensated better than them
_Extreme people not necessarily extremist_
Is anyone here for school?
He can get sick there was a fly on the wound
timbuktu is an actual place?? i thought that was just a saying LOL
I wonder how much money they make doing this?
