Here’s a tip about the Q-tips container you have shown in your video: I have an empty travel Q-Tip box in my backpack and carry “little” things in it, like lucky coins I like to travel with. I also use it to put whatever jewelry I am wearing on travel day in it before going through TSA, so it doesn’t set off the machine. Once I am through TSA, I put them back on, and I didn’t drop it into a random pocket and now have to figure out where it went.
I had NO idea that meds had to stay in the original bottles with prescription. I was just going to put them in smaller baggies to minimize stuff. Thanks so much for letting me know that. Saved me a lot of TSA headache! 🙏🏾
I have never brought my meds in original containers. I put them in a day to day marked medicine container and have paper work of describing my prescriptions with prescribing doctor's name. I have been to foreign countries and haven't been questioned.
Last year, I took a solo trip to Tanzania with a stopover in Qatar. Being a nurse, I always diligently pack first aid stuff and all medications into tiny little organizers like you showed. While I was doing final packing the night before departure I somehow thought about a couple of the prescription medications I was bringing and sure enough - they are actually banned in Qatar and you need like a doctor's note (as well as original prescription bottle). Ugh I kind of freaked out and ended up basically stashing them in odd places in my luggage. The whole thing made me a little nervous but alas, not one single check at the airport when I was both coming and leaving. However, it is something to be really careful about. You never know in certain countries - what if they don't like the 'look' of you and then something like this could be used against you and you find yourself in jail. It was a big lesson for me to understand the laws about medications in different countries.
Try Lush shampoo bars and Ethique conditioner bars, I find they are really good and they dont need to go in your liquids bag, I even use them at home now, love your vids guys cheers
I take a few different sized binder clips. Useful if you want to seal up parts of hotel room curtains to black out the light - can use pants clip hangers but sometimes they don't come off the rack. 😂 I've used them to seal bags, too, and hang things from off of airplane seats. They are useful and lightweight to keep with you. And carabeeners are very useful, too.
Other things I would add to your list is body wash & body moisturizer (unless you know your destination hotel provides it or stores are easy to access), and sun block (reef-friendly if you are traveling in the Caribbean). I use a bar shampoo but bring a small bottle of my conditioner. Hand sanitizer is not restricted, so up to 12 fl oz does not need to go in the liquids bag - I clip mine to the outside of my personal bag just so security can see it. If you bring an antibiotic ointment like polysporin or even plain vaseline, that could be considered a liquid so safer to include it in the liquids bag as well. And just to clarify, you can bring a disposable razor in your hand luggage/carry on, but not a safety razor.
Great tips! I bought a system called "Cadence" and it allows me to fill many containers and keep everything condensed. It's pricey, but worth it. I have a 4 step skincare process and can't go without my serums!
Really great tips. This part of traveling always has me a bit nervous. I tend to bring several types of wipes (face, body, teeth, hair, antibacterial). Because they are not seen as a liquid, they are great to bring.
I was in Tanzania in March. Shampoo was readily available but we could not find hair conditioner. I also recommend a doctor's note if you carry any kind of syringe or epipen. I almost had my epipen confiscated in Hong Kong. And if travelling to Japan you should definitely check in advance if your prescription drugs are approved in Japan.
Nice job Meg, I have contacts so I travel with 3ml saline tubes and use extra contact cases for most of my liquids. I have finally learned to only take what I need and not play the game of taking everything just in case. Oh, and nice guns.
Awesome video, thank you! Just about to start travelling again after 3 years and like a lot of folks I’m totally out of practice with this kid of thing
Welshes silky underwear scented powder can be used for dry shampoo or in your shoes on your arms etc. oh and it smells very good and I even use it on my little bit of my neck and shoulders in the summer for a very light perfume
We never travel without “Lume” wipes along with a travel size deod tube. Both myself & wife use it. Deod lasts 72hrs on me but wife needs daily (menopause) 😅
Sunscreen is critical with so many of us getting unsightly and sometimes fatal skincancers. Lots of solid dust screens are available. I only buy chapsticks with spf in them.
Cleansing balm for the face does not have to go in the 1 qt liquids bag per the TSA. Makes sense as a balm cannot be poured. I just ordered toothpaste tablets so I don’t have to take toothpaste in a tube in my liquids bag.
Haven’t traveled for a few years, but do remember my eyebrow scissors were taken away, was actually bringing them so I could do embroidery while on the airplane. I’ve been wondering if I could bring the armpit razor or the facial hair razors?
I’m big on checking bags so I don’t need to worry about this nonsense. Now I’m going to Mexico & must carry-on. The hotel doesn’t provide the large shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers that I’ve grown accustomed to. So, I’m taking my chances & traveling with three bags of “liquids”. Two in each of my bags and I’m giving one to my husband. I’m a middle-aged woman who requires personal care products and I’m not going to apologize for that. If everything is in 3 oz containers, there shouldn’t be a limit.
@EXREPUBLICAN I found bags on Amazon that are larger than 1 quart, so only needed 2. No one at TSA seemed to notice or care at all. I’ve traveled carry-on many times since then with no issues. Funny enough, we were traveling to a mining show in Acapulco when I posted this. Yes, we were there when Hurricane Otis hit. Our hotel was badly damaged & had no running water or power. Made it out unscathed, thanks to the show’s organizers. They arranged buses that drove us to Mexico City.
I hate TSA. I follow protocol and they scream at people like we are animals. I’m not a criminal. You can be professional and kind. I hate flying and then being greeted by mean ass tsa agents. I hate the TSA in Atlanta . I just got back from France and don’t want to fly any more because I always dread going through tsa . Mean ass people . They suck the joy out of my life. You can protect people without being an asshole. Tired of them and flying
Someone told me that TSA in Europe requires you to use a see through bag for your liquids/toiletries. But that the U.S is way more lax about this. Is this your experience?
So if I have solid prescription pills and am traveling by air abroad where can I put the pill bottles? If I have a personal bag do I need to take the pills out when going through the scanner or just roll it on through?
I just got a lotion bar on Amazon. It feels like I put liquid wax on and I can't stand it. I will have to take a small real lotion in my 311. Will buy lotion that will be face moisturizer just fir the travel time.
Any liquid medication can go in it's own bag. I would write "medical" or "medically necessary" on the bag and let the TSA agent who is screening your son know that bag is whatever it is. They're very familiar with things like insulin, so it shouldn't be an issue.
this might sound dumb but their 3.4 ounces the same as 3.4 fl oz? i just want to make sure as my moisturizer is 1.7 fl oz which to me is below their 3.4 ounces. please correct me if I am wrong
I just have all the prescription bottles in a nice bag (does not need to be clear) in my personal item. You only have to remove them for TSA if they stop you and ask to see them. I keep them at easy access just like the liquids bag so I don't have to dig for them, just in case.
@@kbaz6658 I just sent a message to TSA asking about zip bags with the prescription label on them. Have not heard back yet. I have seen many You Tube streamers doing it, but they have not commented.
If I need to bring a 700ml water bottle that contains only water, is it okay to bring it in my backpack and Carry-On bag? Or do I have to throw out all the water first?
You need to dump the water before going thru TSA. BUT, you CAN put ice cubes in your bottle and carry that thru TSA! (As long as the ice hasn’t melted) This is in the USA- I don’t know if this applies internationally
Nope. If you bring powders exceeding whatever TSA considers a "reasonable amount" they might ask you to pull them out for additional screening though. Like, if you tried to bring 2 pounds of sugar, they'd probably ask you to open your bags 🤷♀️.
@@erinlikesacornishpasty4703 Interesting. I still like my gold bond minis that I refill and have enough trouble with having to be swabbed, I don’t need addition testing. I’m good with sugar etc going in my checked luggage as long as it’s in obvious packaging, I’ve finally stopped getting those we opened your bag things!
Okay but how do you get through TSA carrying around those GUNS 💪
i am looking respectfully 👀

Loved your presentation style Meg, nice to see what you carry and it’s very helpful and minimal. I must have disinfectant wipes and lip balm.
Glad it was helpful!
SPF. I’m at an age where a CC cream with mineral sunscreen is a must have traveling.

Always check the country for meds that are banned. (Mexico bans Vicks and Sudafed!)

Avon Skin So Soft wipes. You can get it with sun screen and it already chases away mosquitos.
TSA does NOT require you to have prescription meds in prescription bottles! Just fyi,
Thanks for the tips.
Many countries do require this, and some countries have bans on some prescription medications that are legal in the USA

I wish the tsa would figure out there is no way to tell how many fluid ounces are in a tube of toothpaste! Same for most hairspray.
