I am 64 and grew up in central North Jersey, 15 miles due south of the NJ/NY state line. Where I'm from is wooded with small rivers (creeks in some parts of the country) that had decent trout fishing back then. I have 3 sisters (all younger than I) that would harass my buddies and myself to no end. We had a Sycamore tree that was fairly stout at the base and at least 60' tall. We called it the Booger Tree (I can't remember why) and it was where we would climb up almost to the top to escape my sisters. The playground we had at the elementary and middle school had the "Jungle Gyms" that were made of piping like the one shown in the video. We had a kid bust his @$$ from the top rungs all the way to the ground (which was sand). He flipped and flopped and bounced rung after rung until he impacted the sand. He just laid there and we kids thought he was dead. One of the substitute teachers that was on recess duty got the school nurse and the next thing an ambulance (a Pontiac stretched kind with the single red gumball on top from the volunteer rescue squad) showed up and away he went. He showed up back at school the following week with bruised ribs, a broken pinkie finger and a couple of knots and bruises on his head. He was tough. The Toadie character in the 'A Christmas Story" movie reminds me of him, his looks anyways. He was the talk of the school for awhile. Plinko...yep and then some...

I saw Rebuen from DMW ( 4WD 24-7) stopped by your shop on his page. Talk about a fabricator. Its cool to see youtubers from all around the world making connections while sharing a common passion. Cannot wait to see this truck finished. Every wrecker channel on youtube talks about Matt and the tow truck olympics. I think it is going to blow up to be a much bigger event than just 3 buddies in the very near future. Great job as always.
I’m glad to see everyone is making good use of their safety squints. Even the extra tight squints are being used when required. Nice, safety first when we can. 🙂
I also am like you , impatient… but i try to correct myself and teach my youngsters as much as possible especially in fabrication, every time i see Matt tell one of the kids “ weld here” I think to myself ( doesn’t Matt care if the weld is structurally sound or looks good) Then I catch myself , (Let these kids learn) , if it’s screwed up , fixing it , isn’t that difficult… Matt’s a good hombre in my op.
Matt, your commitment to the irregular wearing of safety glasses while cutting and grinding is an inspiration to eye surgeons everywhere. 😉 Edit: I'm not feeling critical, just concerned. I love this project and enjoy the fab style and team interactions, but MORR's patented "might not be the best way, but that's the way we're doing it" mantra should not include not wearing consistent eye and ear protection around spinny metal things.

It's so cool that you all are contributing in different ways to build this wrecker. It will be that much more special when you are out making recoveries in the new rig. I've been welding for like 12 years. I love it, and I love seeing younger generations getting into welding! Thanks for awesome content.
Lizzy is gonna have a hard time finding a fella that's gonna be able to keep up. Said it once and I'll say it again. Lizzy is the role model every girls need!

Just curious if you guys are going to have an access panel to service the fuel gauge sending unit? I'm enjoying every minute, and living vicariously through the team.
"This is what they made us play on in elementary school..." That is exactly right! We had an octagonal monkey bar set that went up a good 10 ft on a slope that ended with crossbars at the top from which four poles extended down to the ground through the inside of this octagonal pyramid monkey bars. Playing tag on it one day I got to the top and lept over the void, grasping the crossbars at the cross point to swing across the other side when I met a girl who was swinging from the other side. I was stronger and held on after the collision - She fell 10 ft and broke her arm. I was frightened and ran over to the 12 ft high metal slide structure with the shiny, burn-the-skin-off-your-legs, steel slide to watch the events play out It was kill-or-be-killed out there! If you didn't have a goose egg on your noggin' or road rash or a cast on some part of your body you just weren't living. These kids today playing video games and complaining if the AC isn't cold enough! AC for us was opening up the refrigerator doors in the supermarket and leaning in and closing it behind you as much as you could! It was trying to squeeze into the shade underneath a tree in the park midday. It was being fortunate enough to be in at the park when the sprinklers turned on. It was squirting each other with the hose in the front yard in your skivvies.
I remember those old playgrounds ,metal slides that would burn your butt ,chains on the swings that would pinch your fingers And then I remember when they went to the all wood playgrounds that was lots of fun getting splinters
Matt have you considered an auxiliary trans cooler with its own pump. Weddle industries makes a pump capable of the heat. That heavy beast is going to generate a huge amount of heat on recoveries testing even a TH400
Wrecker looks 2b comin alond quite nicely! Nice to see everyone pitching in and helping with the build. Also good to see y'all trying to protect your eyes and ears. Sometimes it looks like you could do more. Always remember you only get one set each of eyes and ears. As for climbing/crawling around on that rig, whaddaya sposed to do? Its a custom build, fit pieces in place as you go. It's not some factory where they manufacture stuff like that all the time. A factory has blue prints/ designs, and all the necessary tools to do that kind of work . It's called production on a mass scale. Keep on keepin on!
Several days have gone by for this video it points out how much time and thought it takes to make something from scratch. They had recoverys and other everyday work to do also. Looking great 👍
Rhett looks like a junior Rudy! Another super-productive day in the shop, and now Rhett is doing Welding 101; seems like only a few months ago it was Lizzie doing that! This thing will haul anything when it's done, but I doubt anything will be able to haul it if it gets stuck!
Great video Matt. Very entertaining and informative. It appears that you have a eye safety fan club Matt. Lots of folks are worried that you will end up in the hospital. Please Matt put on your safety goggles!
I wish they would keep their arms covered when welding. The immediate risk of sunburn is bad enough, but the long term risk is skin cancer which you really don't want.
Eye protection Matt, please! I know the risks are likely low given the experience of you and your crew but many many aspiring youngans are watching. Its an inconvenience but it protects your only set of eyes.
The whole team is very impressive. "Specially the snow-cone girl! All seem to work together well, even the teasing is done with that obvious respect for each other.
Last weekend at the beach I watched my mate suffer from getting a piece of metal removed from his eye (mini grinder at the hospital to remove it after it rusted in his eyeball) after he thought it was a good idea to use a grinder with slim reading glasses. Unfortunately it's one of those "It won't happen to me" things that most people change their view on when it's too late. It's great the kids are getting such a awesome opportunity to work with tools.

Matt is awesome. He is a man of many many talents. Everybody is great and they are happy and they are ready to recover wherever they have to. But just saying. LIZZY WITH ALL DUE RESPECT YOU GOT IT GOIN ON. STAY SAFE GANG!!!!!! LOVE YA LIZZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The "eyecrometer" works pretty good. Paul would be proud. So, I'm curious.....are you still going to have access to the fuel tank if something happens to it or the internal components stop working?
Also, it looks like they're welding some areas with no visible drainage so on the infrequent rainy or snowy days they will have a fair bit of water accumulation.
Little boy walks into a blacksmith’s shop. He picks up a hot horseshoe and drops it immediately. The blacksmith says “ hot ain’t it?”. The boy says “no, it don’t take me long to look at a horseshoe.”
I'm glad to see you turning out so many welders, and training all your kids to weld. I once was a public school teacher, thoroughly indoctrinated in "all kids must go to college" and in "let your kids figure out what they want to be." Now I have come to the position that it is child neglect to not give your kids every skill you possess. Why let them leave home with no skills, and end up a hundred grand in debt or more before they figure out how they are going to earn the money to pay it back? You are leaving them a debt slave. Teach them everything you know, while they are growing up. If they choose to go another direction, at least they have the skills to pay for the degree. I, too, remember those jungle gyms. Ours had macadam under it, for maximum bounce. It was also really good for splitting scalps, inducing maximum bleed. Then there were the sliding boards, which were at least 12 feet tall, had no enclosure around the top where you transitioned to sitting, nothing around the ladder, scalded your butt on hot days and induced frost bite on cold days. Oh, and our teachers worried about us getting hurt sliding on ice in street shoes on really cold days, but not about the jungle gym or slide.
Teaching practical skills also benefits the learners with a basic survival asset. We know not when our world could go seriously south very quickly and things have to be life-extended because the source of new items or spares dries up.
I’ll say this I can build crazy stuff (when I feel like it) and can wheel with the best of them…but in no way would I want to be in a challenge involving you three in a recovery/trail based build and then do a competition..Trailmater is nothing short of a beast but the monster behind the wheel is the true weapon in that rig. Rory has what seems to be unlimited experience and knowledge his ability to adapt on the fly is amazing and can only be rivaled by yours and Paul. I’m like a kid with a $20 bill in a candy store as I watch all you guys work and wait for each up load. This stuff is better than any tv show and thanks to all you guys for bringing us along.
I might have missed something somewhere but watching them box in the fuel tank I'm wondering where you fill it. Maybe I just couldn't get a peek at the cap because of everything else going on but I'm hoping something that simple didn't get overlooked while fabricating around the tank, haha. We all know Matt has the occasional problem filling up, hopefully the devil on his shoulder didn't get the best of him.
I was thinking the same question. However I did notice a hole in the sheet on the driver side. I'm guessing they are going to put the filler neck for the fuel tank inside the tool box on the driver side.
Every single time I cringe, and then Matt makes a point of putting ear muffs on. Comeon Matt and the rest of you all. If you cant see, you cant grind or do recoveries or watch the grand kids grow up or / or / or. Where do I stop?
Great episode guys. I love seeing that come from Matt's imagination to Lizzy's Stinger. Oh and BTW Matt, we ALL "Know why" there is a shortage of things. It's OK, you can say it...They know....

Absolutely
I’m glad to see everyone is making good use of their safety squints. Even the extra tight squints are being used when required. Nice, safety first when we can. 🙂
Safety third, pretty high on my list

The look on Matt's face when he took that tool box from Linzi said, "damn that young lady is strong.... I can barely hold this " :)
One of the best channels on the Tube... Thanks for all the countless hours of entertainment and edumacation!!!
Skeeter and Trevor seem like guys I’d have a beer with. Funny, down to earth dudes.
Matt, I love how you empower and encourage these youngsters. Bravo!!
I'm one of those impatient "if you want it done right, do it yourself types".
Edit: I'm not feeling critical, just concerned. I love this project and enjoy the fab style and team interactions, but MORR's patented "might not be the best way, but that's the way we're doing it" mantra should not include not wearing consistent eye and ear protection around spinny metal things.
I cringe at this. Worked decades in construction and too many accidents.
Eye surgeons deserve to get their chance like everybody else!
Throws on ear protection. Disregards the eyes. 🤷🏼♂️
@@bondhuis That and the bare-handed welding. Nothing like a nice big dose of UV-C for long term skin health. Hoping he learns sooner from a spatter burn and not later from the inevitable cancer.
It makes me sweat every time I see them without the right PPE. You could never get away with that here!
MORR, what a team! Wrecker looks great!
Matt I watch how well you treat your staff and I really hope it is for real. The way you help Lizzie and allow her to work on the wrecker and allow her to learn how to weld and become a fabricator is fantastic. You are a good mentor and I enjoy watching all of your posts. If I am ever in your neck of the woods I will definitely stop to shake your hand.
Monster tow truck is looking good. The kids are doing a great job welding. It's great that you are having them do it, looks like they are enjoying it too. Keep up the great work.
Love the way you are always teaching the younger generation great skills. Keep up good work.
It's so cool that you all are contributing in different ways to build this wrecker. It will be that much more special when you are out making recoveries in the new rig. I've been welding for like 12 years. I love it, and I love seeing younger generations getting into welding! Thanks for awesome content.
Mike Rowe agrees with you about getting youngsters involved with welding.
Lizzy is gonna have a hard time finding a fella that's gonna be able to keep up. Said it once and I'll say it again. Lizzy is the role model every girls need!
Looking AWESOME!
PLEASE keep having bloopers at the end - they’re awesome…..
Poor Skeeter, he's always getting picked on. Lol. I love that you're teaching Rhett young. He'll have an awesome knowledge base as he gets older.
Matt, this BIG recovery wrecker is just great! I really appreciate your design and attention to detail, and your crew does such good work, Lizzy, Trevor, and the rest of the gang as well as Tucker, the camera and editing guru! You all seem like just a bunch of good friends that a person would like to hang out with!
The heavy wrecker is looking pretty proportional now. Good job!
Lizzy is a new master at the Eyecrometer.
Hi Lizzy , for what's it worth to you if anything, you're my favorite person on the channel !!!
Just curious if you guys are going to have an access panel to service the fuel gauge sending unit?
I'm enjoying every minute, and living vicariously through the team.
The floor panel that covers the tank is not welded in, at 13:06 & 15:29 you can see the studs that will hold it down.

I must have missed it but where's the filler neck for putting the gas in the tank.

"This is what they made us play on in elementary school..."
That is exactly right! I was frightened and ran over to the 12 ft high metal slide structure with the shiny, burn-the-skin-off-your-legs, steel slide to watch the events play out
It was kill-or-be-killed out there!
Lizzy’s my hero! You are cute, witty, great at machining and welding
Man I gotta say Lizzy is kickin some serious butt with how far she’s come with welding !! Super cute also so makes her the perfect catch !!
hope you never have to remove that fuel tank LOL. Looking good.
This is looking super cool so far
Not that you guys went on any recoveries this episode or anything but I was going thru old videos and I noticed the drone views. Those were so rad!
Love to see where you guys came from and to where you are now -- good energy good friends good family - great off road recovery
"I'm basically taking every good idea Rory has" . Awesome sauce. Build is coming along very nicely!
Wow, you are building a tank. That truck will never have structure damage.. It is solid. Great work Matt.
Lizzy the welder, and the crew are total assets Matt,
That's awesome, I'm glad to see everyone with the gloves and safety gear Matt.I was waiting for you to call Robbie the Blister. He poped up after the work was done.
Except the most important piece of safety gear. Glasses.

You need to take 5 minutes and show who is related and which shows they're all coming from. I follow everyone working on Ed's project but even I'm starting to lose track of all these talented people (and kids) moving back and forth between shops and shows. Love it all, keep it up!

The "eyecrometer" works pretty good. Paul would be proud. So, I'm curious.....are you still going to have access to the fuel tank if something happens to it or the internal components stop working?
this^
Also, maybe I missed it, but what about the filler neck? Or how are you going to fill the gas tank when you remember to do so?
Also, it looks like they're welding some areas with no visible drainage so on the infrequent rainy or snowy days they will have a fair bit of water accumulation.

Matt, you give your kids the best education available. Congratulations on bringing them up to be self supporting.
Matt protect those eyes! Don't need cataracts prematurely.
Our jungle gym had good old pavement underneath
Welding skills can sure pay your way through a really nice college.
Have a great Independence Day guys.
Those kids are welding really well, I'm 70 so your all kids. Keep up the good work.
It’s just looking better and better every time I tune in. Pure Weldalicious!
I am also wondering about the fuel filler neck
At 9:10 you can see the opening for the filler tube.
It's MORR, they don't fill fuel tanks up.
