I think in practise, it's easy to get into your own rhythm and stick to the same lines you are used to, but when you get into a race with other people, you notice some of them taking corners differently and faster than you, which then makes you experiment yourself to try and stay with them.
It's easily done and very tempting, but often ends up in disaster, lol

Dave, i watched your beaking modulation for the whole race. You are often coming off and on the brakes as your approaching the corner and quite erratically, or jaggedly.
ACC seems to reward a smooth single motion off the brakes, trailing into the apex, so its 1:/ being more accurate on how late you leave the braking 2:/ being smooth on the trail off into the apex.
Congratulations you’ve got the solution and can now become a top tier ACC guy.
    I will be watching.

Back when they launched the Papyrus Nascar sim in 1997 we started with like a max of 8 cars I think. We were basically paying to be beta testers. We would get a new patch of code almost everyday and finally they got it all figured out and we were 43 cars with no warp. So by 1999 things were really getting good and I was racing over 50 hours a week. My wife was a racing widow and I was just downstairs. So by about 2000 the group of guys I was racing with and another group of guys joined forces to increase the number of guys racing in league races. We ran 1/2 distance minimum with full pit stops, yellow flags and realistic damage. So there would be a minimum of 30-35 guys on any given league night.
We rarely had yellow flags because we had all been racing together for years and everyone knew who was gonna dive bomb you for a spot and who used the chrome horn. There was 5-6 guys that were always up front. No matter what the same guys were fighting for the win and I was driving my ass off to get a top 10. I ran 3-4 nights in a group league race and I went almost a full 3 years until I lucked into a win by dodging the carnage in the last 10 laps. I have no idea why but some guys are just faster. I would practice and practice but even when I shaved .200 - .300 off my lap time I was still, still a half second off. I still loved every minute and we had a really great group of guys that just wanted to race.... Thus we were called Just Racin'. I am currently waiting to get high speed internet out here in the boonies where I live because I am going winged sprint car racing which is my love. I worked on a family friends 410 cu in winged sprint car for about 7 years so I know how to set one up.
One thing that I found myself doing was driving the car 10' off the front bumper..... you don't run down the interstate at 80mph driving 10' off your bumper.... you are driving 3 cars ahead of yourself watching for that one dude that is a complete dipshit. Also play with your wheel lock because it can cause your tires to be scrubing off more speed because they are actually turning farther than you assume they are by the amount of steering you are inputing.
    Peace

    Nice racing as usual Dave.
I made a change last night and it didn't go well for me.
I have a bad habit of changing down or braking as a comfort thing rather than because it's necessary.
Thought I identified a corner I was lightly braking at for that reason, so next lap I didn't do it and ended up on the grass.
Turns out I needed that light braking to help with the turn in. Doh!
Nice racing with you and Julie last night even though she did make me look like a slug in treacle.
I won't believe her next time she says she's slow at a track.

The problem I feel with ACC is it’s inconsistent. Even when you heat the tyres up you can hit the same corner, take the same apex, brake at the same point at the same speed and the car does something completely different. You just can’t seem to get into a groove because of the strange physics and tyre model. I’ve tried to like it but it’s still not my favourite sim. Also the way the cars Pogo stick over the curbs is unrealistic and annoying.
