It also depends on your skin and fragrance and time to travel to your destination. Example Parfums de marley Pegasus, it's a pleasant smell, does not really project, unisex, I sprayed 10 times but when I travel to my workplace, it's an hour, I don't annoy people because the fragrance drysdown by then and I receive compliments, u have to know your fragrance.
Honestly I'm not joking I live in the middle east so I can go like 14 sprays the night or 7 to 9 sprays the moon and its fine. Obviously the only thing is don't have people that dpon't like that fragrance in the car with you but with almost everywhere we go being spacious and climate controlled go nuts. Honestly as much as some consider this to be an insane spray routine here in the middle east its normal to smell people walking ahead of you be 2 or maybe 3 meters. People use oud wood chips to scent their clothes then use oud oil as a base then apply a fragrance on top of that base. So here if you do like 4 sprays of interlude we would just get wafts of the scent. I would think our culture here overspraying is like 15-20 sprays of POAL. That's not nuts like it sounds but it would be considered over spraying. To drive this point home even further that's why the middle east spends 2x on perfume per capita compared to the rest of the world. Yes obviously this routine would be social suicide on the london tube but you would probably clear enough people to get a seat and just maybe enough seats for your friends to huddle around you. So spray routines and scents as mentioned by AC are completely dependant on the environment around you and the event you're at. Japan is different, so is europe, so are the states and the middle east is totally different to all those.
Class, intellect and perspicacity! Easily in the upper echelons of reviewers. Totally agree with you regarding men who over spray: they are like people who always want to dominate the conversation. Gentlemen understand the value of nuance.
When I first got into fragrances, I oversprayed a 2017 batch of Club de Nuit Intense. & in 2017 this was seriously a BEAST. I mean 2-4 hours of projection. I was also nose blind at the time as I loved the fragrance so much. I did get compliments, but a few times I would get "what fragrance are you wearing" from someone all the way across the room who would make sure they said it when they were across the room to show basically everyone could smell it. It was a more of "everyone can smell it .. please don't put so much on" hidden comment. It was embarrassing to say the least. Being anosmic is for so a real thing. Especially with signature fragrances, just stick to 2-3 sprays if its an EDP in a work environment in my opinion. In professional settings you don't need everyone to be smelling you.
hope youre well AC only 2 sprays - no way i used to be very cautious but since i starte "overspraying" i've recv'd far more compliments - some of them pretty amazing - eg "what are you wearng, you smell devine" and these have all been from women :-) 6 sprays is minimum for me
same here. ive tried doing 2 sprays and generally that forms a very mild scent bubble difficult for others to notice, although good enuf for myself or someone very near to me. 4 or 5 sprays has been enough to let others easily pick it up. but with some Amouages its just 2 needed wherever u r
He often does mention this many reviews, but yes, I agree maybe featuring this in every review consistently would be good. I find that the differences is sillage and projection one of the trickiest parts of a fragrance. The part that most people seems to care about (performance) is not really a big issue as you can just carry a travel or something. However, some fragrances are too much and need one spray, and some need up to 6 even.
Your ability to reflect upon topics like these is second to none. I felt almost attacked at one point, as I would gladly spray two healthy doses of Bleu de Chanel for an interview. At the same time, I know that you are 100% correct in your observations, and I love that I'm able to learn from them. Once I'm able to put my fragile ego aside, of course. Great video, yet again, good sir!
Thank you my friend. Yeah ypu are right. Interview fragrances need to be thought about. BdC is all about Ambroxan, and inspite of it being an amazing fragrance, Ambroxan is to attract female attention, thats its sole purpose. So I would recommend against it.
I used to wear alot of Hesperidée type fragrances back in the day. Very citrus focused old cologne style fragrances that will only leave a slight whiff of projection. And then i bought 2 vintage YSL fragrances. YSL Pour Homme Haute Concentration, and Kouros...Kouros almost emptied out the locker room of my gym. And YSL PH Haute Concentration made a few girls cough in the bus. That's when i found out what beast mode really means. And i totally agree that if you have a job interview, you need to apply more common sense instead of a sweet clubbing type fragrance. That's why i like classic Hesperidée fragrances. Most of them don't offend anyone, and are suited for job interviews and restaurants. Ruining someone's dinner experience, because cologne guy at the table next to you drowned himself in Paco Rabanne's 1 Million is also quite annoying.
@@ACSmellsGood I purchased Nishane Sultan vetiver as a vetiver lover and based on yr recommendation & Its absolutely true killer. Its more towards vintage Guerlain vetiver ( nineties) but @ heavier dose. Thanks 💐💐
I oversprayed when I first got Aventus, and was excited to wear it to work. I must have used 5-6 sprays. One of the newer employees who sits across the aisle from me smelled it, and was enthralled. The issue was she picked up on it from 6 or 7 feet away. I'll never make mistake again at work.
Haha - I feel called out with the Kouros comment :) But yes, I agree for strong fragrances that 1 - 2 sprays only, and never spray immediately before showing up somewhere. Right after spraying almost any fragrance the opening is way too strong for most people - I've experienced this at work when people spray cologne when coming back from lunch at work...it's the worst time/idea usually. Always have .5 hour at least drydown before showing up anywhere. This is also why having at least a very small portfolio of 3-4 options for different occasions is useful. One reason why I think Creeds are popular is their moderate sillage. GIT or Tabarome are great low sillage, natural smelling fragrances for interviews. Something like Dior Homme Parfum is saved for date nights, and not for work, etc.
I always go 2 sprays under my shirt for work (or 1 spray). I work in one of the most close proximity environments imaginable (behind a deli counter), so I never want to bother my coworkers.
Great video as always AC! Loved the topic. Your thoughts on somebody wearing 5 sprays of Sauvage/Eros during an interview was hilarious. Was never dumb enough to do that 🤣 In my college days when I was younger, I used to douse myself in Issey Miyake. As I've matured, it's only 2-4 sprays max because I don't wear colognes to intentionally receive compliments...I wear them for myself. Keep up the great work and stay safe AC!
I do 16 sprays. 2 on back of neck. 2 on stomach. And 6 on each arm. I avoid the front of my neck because it irritates my nose and eyes. I used to do 3 to 5 but I couldn't smell anything after an hour. I will go less if I'm going to work or a formal event.
I'm from a culture that tend to overspray But personally I use from 2 to 4 spray depending on perfume itself occasion type , indoor or outdoor and temperature
Most Designer fragrances are very weak you need to spray more than 6 sprays be it work or whatever the occassion. Im an oversprayer anyways and not even once has some ever complained. This 1 or 2 spray people rant on You tube is just ridiculous unless someones right into you r face that rarely ever happens I prefer to do atleast 10 plus sprays except very strong fragrances I use 1 100ml bottle a month.

Hey AC usual great vid. Taking time in to fragcom to thank for all the vids. Based on my experience and fr from reading commenter posts in fb groups, etc, it seems understanding fragrance power and anosmia is tough. Wrt work faux pas, I've had folks cough when I massively oversprayed a mega-strength Bois du Portugal clone at work. The worst was when I accidentally sprayed a Baraonda version (grabbed wrong bottle) - I was pumping sweet bourbon boozy across 3 (empty) cubicles for 3 hours ha ha. Sage advice to error on the side of caution at work. I make up for it outside work by occassionally 1st testing a sample by overspraying it and immediately going out in public: the blind-buy blind-wear challenge. Cheers and thanks again for the continued great content.
