BEST video I've seen on this yet. So simple and well explained and no annoying loud music playing in the background. Thank you!
Been working for 29 years. Finally got my own office. My desk lamp is gonna be a friggin' Steampunk masterpiece thanks to your video.
That’s awesome!!! Congratulations
Great video! Appreciate the way you explained everything. Very helpful.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I saw another video use epoxy putty to snug up the wires. I like the spray foam so much better. Very clever!
Thank you
Best idea yet!!! Thanks for making this waaaaaaaaay easier. Definitely putting this switch on my lamp
Awesome, glad you liked it
Cool. If you don't want to buy a can of foam, you can just pack in a bit of pink insulation. That will stop it from flopping around. You can snatch a bit from your attic or basement.
That’s a great idea. Thank you for sharing.
Great idea with the tube and expanding foam. Nice video!
Thank you
Fantastic video. So much more simple than many of the others on this topic. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you
Awesome bud!! I'm going to attempt my first lamp in the next week bc you're videos are so helpful! 5 stars
+Bryan Byak Thank you!! And please let me know how it goes.
+Bryan Byak thank you. Would love to hear how your lamp comes out.
lots of great tips in this vid - thanks!
Thank you. Very happy you liked it 👍🏼
expanding foam good idea ty
Great video. Just what I wanted.
Awesome. Hope you found it helpful
I just bush a 1/2 or 3/4 fitting down to 1/8th. Grind the switch down a bit and JB weld a red or black handle to it and JB the nut to the handle for looks
Love your work and creativity man!
Thank you!
Very instructive. Thanks !!!
Thank you 😊
do you assemble all your lamps at a police station?
lol sounds like it sometimes 😂
You listed a link for 1/2” tubing in the description but mentioned 1/4” tubing in the video. Which one is correct? Thanks for the help 👍🏻
Awesome video, thanks! The only thing is, the tubing that you linked to is way too big in diameter to do what you're doing in the video... I think you put the wrong link...
Thank you. I will look into that.
what about replacing the IV tube with the wire-wrap that shrinks when heated? also...absolutely awesome video!!!
You definitely could.
The thing I like about the tubing is how much easier it makes installing the wires and providing protection.
The wire wrap gets hung up on edges in my experience.
But definitely provides a high level of protection
the shrink wrap will 'close' down when the foam expands@@cranevideo3506
Very true. The heat shrink is definitely a good option. The tubing is my preferred option just because I can easily move or change how I have the wiring at any time during the build. But heat shrink will also work for protection of the wire and is more flexible.
Being that the small rotary switch has threads on it for mounting and securing it, doesn't the switch get a little sloppy when turning it inside the T fitting?
It can be, I used a little expanded foam to hold it steady
Is there a certain type of rotary switch or do they all fir the 1/4 tubing?
Thanks. Great video.
The one that is linked in the video is the only one I have really tried to be honest. So I can’t say how well other ones will fit
Is there a reason you didn't use JB Weld on the rotary switch too? just to be safe. I see you just used it on the faucet end of things.
The switch is large enough that it can’t rotate inside the pipe. That’s the only reason I didn’t JB weld it also
I really appreciate the video -- awesome -- One question if you have time -- have you tried Loctite instead of the JB Weld -- I was thinking if you needed you could probably break it apart with the loctite.
I think the tubing is a great idea -- Again I really liked the video and all the information in the description
+Moment Of Faith Interesting idea. Had not thought of that, I’m not sure it would be strong enough to hold up overtime would be my only concern with using LOCTITE.
Here is what I'm speaking about - They make one that is almost permanent hold and one that is not- I use the one that is not on my motor parts and have never had a problem with it backing out but you can still take apart when you need to -- oh and thanks for the reply --

+Moment Of Faith it’s definitely worth looking into. Thank you.
what kind of switch do you use?
Should be a link in the description that will take you to the switch I used.
Hi, I love the video. Can you please give me advice on how you separate the faucet handle from the valve? Did you use a vice clamp or plumber's wrench? I bought the gate valve you recommended and I'm starting to strip the outside and I don't want to screw it up anymore. Thank you!
I used two pipe wrench’s. Believe me I know that faucet can be an absolute bear sometimes. I have joked I should make a video on how I get it apart lol
Crane Video Thank you so much for the advice! I think a video showing how you disassemble the gate valve would break the internet better than Kim Kardashian ever could lol
Andrew Melissas LoL
great idea thank you, I would like to try this with a dimmer switch??
Thank you.
Did you try the dimmer switch Kurt?
It is a right hand thread I assume. I’m having the same problem as Elliot N
How do you remove the bonnet from the top of the 3/4" gate valve. I purchased 2 of these valves from Home Depot and tried everything to unscrew the bonnet (top) of the valve. I used a vice with a deep socket wrench. I tried a long handled box-end wrench. I tried a long handled pipe wrench. I tried a vise-grip water pipe pliers. All I managed to do was strip the metal off both of the valves. In your video you mention that it was difficult to take the valve apart but you don't say how you did it. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the video.
I place the body of the gate valve in one pipe wrench the use a second pipe wrench to loosen the top ( Bonnet) While it’s tight I have not run into a problem with stripping the nut.
Thanks for the reply. I definitely have not had the experience you've had. I've put the body of the valve into a solid vise and no wrench has been able to budge it. Perhaps I just have a crappy valve.
@@ElliotNegelev i actually thought my valve was once piece but i used my foot for power i unscrewed it.
Will this switch fit directly into a 3/4" T with the valve portion screwing directly into it, or would it be too tight a fit?
The problem is the switch itself is too big for a 3/4” T
Can you hook up another water valve in series for a dimmer switch
You could but I have not found a switch that works well in this setup. If you found a dimmer switch that worked personally I would just run it all off the dimmer switch seeing as most dimmers have an off position.
Hope that answers your question
super video! any reason to use 1" T connector? instead of 3/4"?
You could absolutely use a 1” 3/4” was just the smallest that I felt worked well. But bigger if fine. Just be sure that you get the appropriate adapter.
Your videos are all great!! But dam, in every video there's a fire department or police chase or something going on right by your house. Lol, where do you live, East St. Louis, Illinois ??
lol.
Joys of living in Downtown Los Angeles hahaha.
@@cranevideo3506 ... Lol, Well none the less, great great videos !!!
Do you still need to grind down the water faucet threading?
I don’t believe so. I did not have to on the one I built
Would this work with 1/2" pipe and 1/2" pipe gate do you think?
The only reason I don’t do it with 1/2” is because the switch seems to large.
If you find a smaller switch you could.
Is 1/2 size broo
which wire is the hot wire???
It’s only an on off switch. Technically it can be wired with ether one to the hot wire.
Is the foam a fire hazard?
Not ones it is cured
I do believe I hear the copyright police about to knock on your door! Lol
Copyright police? For? lol
Hi, I'm new to wiring.. I have the rotary switch, but both wires coming off it are black.. how do I know which one is the Hot Wire? Thanks
Because it is just a through switch it will not matter what black wire you hook to the power or to the light.
Can this be used for a wall switch?
Possibly, but my concern would be that traditional house lights might draw to much current and overheat the switch.
I'm using the same set up but the threads don't match
The threads from the faucet don’t match the pipe threads. I used JB weld to secure it in place
Crane Video so what did you do? The threads don't match at all so I can't even START the threads to be able to jb weld it in place.
On the set up I had the faucet threads where loose inside the pipe so I used the JB weld to secure it. If it’s a slight different faucet then you might have to grind down the threads to fit inside the pipe
Is this UL approved?
Is the lamp UL approved?
No the home made lamp is not, but the parts and wiring are.
Okay, me bad...I didn't finish the video before I asked my question...
🤙🏼
