Great idea about the tubing, but Not grounded. If that hot wire touches the pipe anywhere, you are going to be shocked. I build steampunk and always ground

I found this video helpful. I have some questions, though.
The black wire is connected to the switch. Is this always the neutral wire, and the hot wire is straight through?
Are you materials listed in another video? Was this a straight on-off switch, or was it a dimmer?

How do you complete the wiring process? Connecting to a power source?
You should use a grill lighter on those shrink tubes to keep from burner your fingers

just saw your video, nice job. i think i will try to make this light. my only question is what size reducer did you use to put the light socket in. thanks
I use 3/4" fittings. I know a lot of people use 1/2" but I thought the 3/4" looks beefier. So for the socket, a 1 1/4" to 3/4" reducer fits a lamp socket perfectly. Might need to add a little JB Weld to keep it from moving around but otherwise it's pretty snug. Hope that helps!
I agree the 3/4 has a cooler look. The 1/2” stuff I have built in the past just looks small even though obviously strong enough.
@@cranevideo3506 Indeed. I went to Home Depot and compared the two sizes. There are better places to buy them online but it was helpful to figure out what I wanted to do with that. Great video, btw. I'm a subscriber now. :)
You colors of wires and which set goes with which coming out of the switch section of pipe (pipe/switch) is confusing. Appears you have some type of very short section added to your first connection for some reason? Also would help if you would straighten out the wires. Looks like a bunch of snakes piled up that you can't tell which wire goes with which without difficulty.
I could not make this out either. How did he manage to fix 4 wires to become 2. Thought it might have to be a T junction junction but no it was just like 2 wires all the way through. Sorry I'm not good at explaining.
Does the switch get hooked to positive and negative or just to positive?
I would recommend the hot leg (positive) but in this style of circuit ether would work
How would I do this for a two bulb lamp that also uses one rotary switch?
I would wire the two lights together then run two leads from the lights to the switch and power

I find it at hardware stores or home improvement stores. Usually in the plumbing section
3/8" OD clear vinyl tubing. You can find it at a hardware store. Home Depot here in the US carries it. 20 feet is less than $5.
It wasn't clear how to run the wires. I have lamp wire from the bulb to the switch then the switch is connected and the lamp wire continues

What about earthing / grounding the metal work?!?!
A three wire cord can easily be used and the ground can be soldiered to the pipe
@@cranevideo3506 I suggest that you do that. If a hot wire connection came loose in the lamp or was chaffed, it could energize the iron lamp when the switch is open. The ground would cause the CB to trip instantly if that happens.
@@pincushion5724 Meanwhile your body is the ground if metal is not grounded.

Sorry for the slow response. Typically I use 12 gauge stranded copper-wire, with a max 600volts rating
19-mils insulation.
