- I was making this video like 4 months ago, and it's finally been finished. I wanted to rank every single faction in the elder scrolls v skyrim and I did just that. This is my own personal opinion and hopefully you will enjoy watching! Lets have a look at ranking every faction in skyrim.

Why do you feel it's okay to defame High King Ulfric as racist? He allows the dark elves to take refuge in Windhelm and allows religious freedom, unlike the Thalmor. You think you're the type of people who fight racism, when in actuality you're lazy and spreading misinformation. If you actually put the time into the philosophy of skyrim (you had plenty of time, since skyrim came out in 2011) you'd see that High King Ulfric is less ruthless and more fair than the A. Dominion and their puppets, the empire. On a side note I do lovd most of your content.

Dawnguard is the best. You still get Serana, you get to upgrade the crossbow a bajillion times, and you get to listen to Isran's butter smooth silky voice. His voice is epic, 10/10.
dawnguard and thieves/nightingale guild are unmatched imo.
Yeah, Volkihar is incredibly disappointing in what they offer, in comparison to Dawnguard.
True but I did enjoy destroying the safeguard though. It wasn't really worth the amount of time it took to get that one. It was just fun for me.

Activate the blades quest before heading off to slay alduin. The mission to kill paarthanax should disappear from your missions log. Then you can pretend the Blades don’t exist.

the thieves guild/nightingales are definitely my favorite. the plot, the characters, and the loot is just all around amazing.
Also, you actually earn the title of guildmaster. You have to do quests in order to establish the Guilds presence in Skyrim
I agree thieves guild is the best, but for role playing reasons i dislike being forced to join the nightingales and serve a daedric lord in life and death. Opulent thieves guild mod makes it even better....that is the one thing missing from the faction is visible wealth and growth in my opinion.
Its a generic dungeons missions, a shit, but Colege of Winterhold is worst.

You take the Bard's College as a joke, but little did you know that they're the ones pulling the strings behind literally everything going on in Skyrim. They just want you to think that they ain't a big deal.
No its the mischievous and wicked Little People (Faeries/Leprechauns/Pixies/Sprites) at Honorhall Orphanage (actually an Embassy), they are trying to behave themselves but just cannot. They are the rift that is in Skyrim that neither magic nor the passing of time can heal and they serve the Serpent whose Season is Brightest Star (between February and March). A Season that is no longer discussed, like the other Divines that have been forgotten or how they substituted Talos for Shor (Temple of Divines in Solitude), but Man cannot become a God. Even Lorkhan who is closest to them (Mortals?! Monsters more like!) isnt considered part of the pantheon.

Nope. They are not. The real guild pulling strings is the courier's guild.
I mean, their "graduates" are literally in every town and village. Some of them are even in small taverns across Skyrim. Some of them in your OWN HOME - those people are perfect spies
College of winterhold was WAYYY too rushed of a story and I think tolfdir should have become arch-mage untill the db has completed all the master spell quest, after which you'd be contacted by tolfdir who promotes you to arch-mage, recognizing your talents and saying he's "too old to run the college"
As for the thieves guild and dark brotherhood, they're my favourite questlines in the game but they needed followers (and some dialogue from brynjolf instead of him just telling you to piss off cause "hE'S BuSy"
I wanted to marry Brynjolf, would have been a nice parallel.
the first time i played through skyrim’s dark brotherhood, i didn’t see the twist coming at all, and it actually really got me. i’d grown to like all the over-stoic, kinda arrogant assassins in the sanctuary. it really hurt to see most of them die and then be informed of Astrid’s betrayal, especially since you get to see them grow to like you more and give you your hard-earned respect. that isn’t something i really got in the other three main factions (TG, college, and companions). the companions moves far too quickly to really get attached to skjor or kodlak, mercer was always a dick and i frankly relished getting to cut him down, and of the major questgivers in the college only mirabelle’s death felt impactful, since she was the only competent person there.
I thought the companions was the longest to get through?
I kinda did but I didn't see the Thieves' Guild's plot twist coming *at all* .
Mirabelle's death was kinda painful to me, for the reason you stated. I hated seeing her dead. She was exactly the kind of person you wanted holding down the fort while you were away, or giving advice while you were there. I thought her death was unnecessary.
Same for me it's the best questline in the game

My head canon for why my Listener went Dawnguard over Volkihar:

Listener: You cheap son of a bitch, I got more money for offing Narfi!!!!
You know in reality a dark brotherhood member would want nothing more than to be a vampire.

@@fodspeed My listener wouldn't look at it that way, but everyone who's ever been in the DB in lore has their own take on the organization. As for my listener, he has a more "low church," view of the DB. As for the Dawnguard v Vampire decision, it was more getting off on the wrong foot with Harkon and realizing that there has to be a way to live forever that has fewer inconveniences.
I had a game where my character was a part time assasin. I used Alternate Start Mod to start the Dark Brotherhood Quest first. I power leveled sneak and archer to level 90 before doing any of the quests. Dark brother hood quest line ends with everyone dying I assume a new identity. Never using sneak or archer in public. Only heavy armor one hand with sheild. Every so often i will meet a person that pisses me off so as the sun sets I equip my assasin gear and murder them. Ahem such as Nazeem. Anyone you bump into that detects you in assasin mode must die.
The kicker is that you cannot have followers while in assasin mode. For obvious roleplay reasons. :)
I find that by using the open cities mod it makes it much easier to sneak in and out of the city while wearing assasin gear.

@@fodspeed Would they, though? Sure, being a Vampire Lord offers excellent ways to brutally murder someone, and especially if your Listener is a younger character, vampirism could be a boon. However, consider the cons of vampirism. You have to feed frequently, and if you don’t, you have to sneak around more and stay out of sunlight. In other words, being a vampire could be a massive inconvenience for an assassin. Oh yeah, and there’s the possibility they don’t know the powers of a vampire lord and don’t want to risk drinking a stranger’s blood - diseases and all that.

Man why is no one talking about the Dark Brotherhood? In my first time playing Skyrim their questline were the most immersive to me, I really felt bad for them when almost everyone died at the end, I would put them at least in the third position getting just behind the Nightingales and the Dawnguard.

2 years late but I agree with you, like this guy ranked them so low for being "arrogant brats" but he puts the Volkihar clan first, don't get me wrong I love them but which characters sounds more bratty and arrogants?
The biggest redeeming quality of the clan is Serana in term of character
I've never heard anything good about Harkon, just that he's dumb for wanting to blot out the sun when it's so vital for a vampire's food source.
I’ve had stage 4 vampirism for like 900 days and I seem to be doing alright. Js
And Serena was locked up for a couple thousand years and didn't seem to be exactly starving

I tried to chalk it up to Serana being a Daughter of Coldhabour- because they’re the strongest vampires maybe they can completely abstain from blood or don’t need it to function? But then again, most vampires can get by without drinking blood. Does it hinder you, yeah but you live. This just makes Harkon look like a clown lmao

because it is a 2 for 1 guild :D you only become a superhero (nightingale aromr) if you completed the sewer club. no fraction can offer the same thing so ofc it is the best guild.

Yeah that made me really angry. I picked the game up on Xbox 360 as a kid and would collect instruments as if I can play them 😢 it’s great to be playing a new save on the pc recently though
Get the ordinator perk overhaul. If you level speech it lets you play an instrument and get money from it
I think technically....you can "join" the Telvanni from the Dragonborn DLC because Master Neloth has quests for you and then at the end doesn't he say something about you being a member of the House Telvanni? I mean if he included the Nightingales separately, then wouldn't this technically be a "joinable" thing?

There is an option to join the penitus oculatus and side against the dark brotherhoood.
You don't really join them, you just work with them temporarily to destroy the Dark Brotherhood

The Dawnguard is decent but it just feels like a cave simulator. Becomes pretty repetitive. Crossbows are cool though.

I think the Companions is my favorite guild considering it’s the first guild you’re technically supposed to come across after escaping Helgen. It left a really nice impact on me in shaping the character I play as and the Circle is still my favorite cast of characters.

Dawnguard is probably my favorite faction. I like being an undead slaying paladin. I can either wear the Dawnguard set, and use Dawnguard weapons, or be a knight paladin who wields Auriel's bow, shield, and dawnbreaker, while wearing the ancient Falmer armor.
I've never played as them because I'm always a vampire. :)
@@dasik84 I never liked becoming a vampire, or a werewolf. The first time I played this game, I saw a vigilant of stendar fighting off 2 skeletons, and I thought to myself that I want to be just like him. Needles to say, I was a bit disappointed that there is no such faction, or that you couldn't join the silver hand in the companions quest line, but luckily the dawnguard fixed that, and now I can kill abominations with fashion.
I remember on my first playthrough of Skyrim, joining the bards college and being so disappointed that I couldn’t play the various instruments I went out of my way to collect after joining

I loved the thieves guild it was like almost like a in game family and they we're so amazing and the story was so cool and at the end when you all suit up into your armor looks so sick

Best faction is the Rieklings sure you have to kill the chief but you get to murder a large group of nords and they are some of the least annoying characters for me at least
I honestly love all of them. It wouldn't be Skyrim anymore if one of the factions was missing. But the faction that offers the most fun even after completing the main quest is definitely the Thieves guild. I spend a lot of time there.
05:36 There are exactly, & I’ll count them slowly, Two nightingale missions.
One : becoming a nightingale & Two : hunting down Mercer Frey to return the skeleton key. That’s it
The armour is some of the better looking kit in the game.
Karliah lies to you. She tells you that in order to best Mercer, you’ll need the edge that being a nightingale & it’s gifts gives.
But, you can’t actually get that edge or those gifts until AFTER you return the skeleton key, which Mercer has on him so . Wait … What ! I have to agree to bind my soul to a daedric prince, because karliah screwed up royally &, you can’t even get Karliah as a follower afterwards which makes being a nightingale kinda pointless

Other than the armour, it’s a shite guild.
The blades suck. I never rebuild them. They are utterly useless & tell you they won’t help you unless you kill paarthurnax.

All while making themselves comfy cosy in the sanctuary that needed your blood to even access.

Thieves guild ends up being a never ending series of radiant fetch quests until you just get pissed off & never bother going there again, despite them deciding to make you the boss after 30 minutes, you still have to take orders & don’t actually get to recruit any of the unthieving thieves to assist you as companions. They never leave the ratway. Then there are the unusual gems. Don’t even get me started.
Bards college. Where the one thing you won’t do, is learn to play an instrument. Because, ?
You do get to go dungeon diving … like you do with literally every other guild.
In their defence, they don’t try & make you the dean at the end.
The best faction is Cloud District Guard.
You don’t get to see them very often.
Now here’s someone being realistic and using common sense, rare trait.
On the plus side, regarding the Nightingales, the Daedric Prince will have to get in line behind several others if they want your soul. A triple-threat match between Nocturnal, Sithis and Hircine would be fun, especially when the Dragonborn cheekily reminds the victor that, since they've fulfilled a prophecy, they exist outside the cyclical nature of mortality and are in fact free from all claims, oath-sworn or otherwise.
Actually there is more to it. You get introduced to the nightingales after finding Karliah. And there is a 3rd mission. The Twilight Sepulchur is also a quest on it's own.
So:
1. Becoming nightingale
2. Find Mercer
3. Return the skeleton key to the Twilight Sepulcher.

None of these are joinable.
Sadly. I remember playing back before Dawnguard came out and 13 year old me REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to be a Vigilant of Stendarr.
I was overjoyed when I could be a paladin with the Dawnguard. Which was tempered slightly by the questline immediately killing off the Vigilants, but what can you do...
It does say if you worship enough at the Temple of Solitude the Divines will grant you a boon (Quest), however I tried this and it did not work.
Looking back on it the ThievesGuild does have the most content.
I annihilated the Namira cult out of revulsion. Couldn't help myself.
I like the Dawnguard, Companions, and Imperials. You don't have to "be" a werewolf in the companions beyond the very first initiation into The Circle and from there you can begin the quests to cure yourself, Kodlak, Vilkas, and Farkas of Lycanthropy. Hell I don't even DO anything as a werewolf, I just "wait" a few hours and wake up outside with Aela returned back to human.
Thieves Guild has the most expansive questline. I do play through that. HOWEVER I wish there were quests to take the thieves guild down and clean up Riften/Skyrim. It would be even better if you could reform thieves guild characters you liked to help clean the place up. Hell, how about a reformed Brynjolf becoming Jarl of Riften after helping take down Maven? Stuff like that would have been awesome.
Same with the Dark Brotherhood. I never play assassin/ pure murderer crap. I LOVED that you were able to take the DB out in Skyrim but they could have made it a LOT more fun. How about making quests where you would be stealth spying on the DB and having options to alter assassination attempts to backfire and kill the assassin or get them caught? That would have been cool. Nope, just wipe them out (for little reward).
That's the major problem with nearly every role playing game out there though. You play as a bad guy you get to do all kinds of cool quests and build wealth and find good rewards. Play as a halfway morally decent character and everything is over within two or three quests and your reward is like "OH! you saved my only child as well as the kingdom from a massive clan of murderous scum!! Thank you SOoo much, here have this pickle I dropped on the floor a bit ago".
The only reason to be a wolf is that it prevents the player from becoming a vamp!
i agree with ALMOST everything you said here dude EXCEPT liking the imperials, i am and always will genuinely be with my *true* brothers and sisters in-arms: the Stormcloaks 🐻💪🏼💙 but ya for real tho bout' what you said of the Dawnguard, Companions, Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood 👍🏼
I found it interesting that the stormcloaks and Imperials were listed as seperate factions rather than clumped together as "the civil war questline", but the blades and greybeard factions were clumped together. In fact, the greybeards weren't even mentioned as an option, as if the player has no choice but to kill Parthunaax; but, the player can choose to follow "the path of the voice" rather than choosing to re-establish the blades at all. Granted, the greybeards don't offer any real quests after the decision to spare Parthunaax; but, the fact that the player can choose this faction over the blades makes the greybeards' faction worth mentioning... At least in my opinion
I hate “Ulfric is a Racist” as an argument against the stormcloaks when you take the overall lore of the series into an account.
I don't have a favourite faction, so I guess I'll go with the dark brotherhood for Cicero's sake.

@@101m4n Regardless of the manipulation of the Thalmor, Bastards that they are, I choose Skyrim not because of the Empire or the Thalmor, but because Ulfric Stormcloak is the True High King! According to Ancient Nord traditions!
Besides, how am I supposed to Become High king if I can't challenge Ulfric in single combat after the Civil war?

Talos worship should not be forbidden. Neither should the Thalmor have all of Tamriel in their palms. Plus the Empire are too weak and afraid to fight back.
I love the Dawnguard the most. Especially because of the overlap it has with Hearthfire, my favourite DLC. You get to bring the Dawnguard dogs home and your kids might want to adopt them. Some of the Dawnguard members can even be hired as a steward for one of your Hearthfire houses.
Aside from that, the Dawnguard has more unique items to provide during their missions and side missions compared to the Volkihar.
With so much flexibility I have to put that one on the number 1 spot.

Yeah I actually restarted a few months ago on my main character, for a few reasons, but one of the biggest ones was siding with volkihar. I don’t really like being a vampire (especially as a khajiit, which I was), I HATE how you get jumpscared every time you go outside, and volkihar just feels like it has less to offer than the dawnguard.

@Ralis Sedarys I once had maxed out my alchemy and enchanting and used everything the game has to offer to crack up the best enchantments. I tried to duplicate the Ring of the Beast effect, and I got 1 point above the Rings effects. No mods were used.

The stormcloaks and thieves guild are the best for me.
You'd think someone from Ireland, which land won independence from UK hundred years ago would appreciate the stormcloak rebellion a bit more lol
You missed the skaal and the rieklings in the one quest where you fight for thirsk mead hall
I like Nightingale but I don't like thieves guild, especially when I play without exploit resources, "never done honest to carry your gold lad" The most stupid question of brinjolf while I spent a few day to build my character making him/her rich just by selling alchemy potions traveling from town to town

They would count as a faction but I don't think your character actually becomes a greybeard / part of the greybeards so I don't think it fits on this list

I like Dawnguard's storyline the most amongst the game too.. except the Forgotten Vale part.
It's either me using gem gates to bypass everything or it's a long trek with the equivalence of 5 dungeons.
I prefer the Forgotten Vale to Blackreach.
I think you missed a few but these are just my opinion
Down for which factions I think should be included
The rieklings
I include these because they are a unqiue faction and, you can even get them as followers. They also have there own kinda side quest chain where you can assist them over the humans.
The skaal village
These guys wouldnt really be considered a faction, but they have there own set of quests, and are very remote people. They have there own traditions and im pretty sure multiple of them have side quests and such, I feel like this might be a stretch but I consider this a faction.
The forsworn
Even though you only do 2 quests, since you included the cult of namira I feel as though these guys should also be included. You do a few quests with them, get a unique armor set, and they are also like an underground "organization" in markarth.
The Orcs
Now these guys I consider a faction, they have multiple remote bases and each have there own unique side quest, one even being about a Daedric.
Anyway I think there might be more I missed but I consider these all a faction you left out in your video.
I don't think you can count the forsworn because random forsworn npcs will still attack you whether you sided with them or not
Also orcs aren't a faction lmfao they're a race you gain the trust of. Just because they're secluded doesn't mean they're a faction. Same kinda goes for every "faction" on this list. None of these are actual factions.

For those wondering you can still become a vampire lord without joining the vampires, you just gotta play through the Dawn guard more and you'll get the option soon.

There is another way into the soul place btw, they tell you it in the game I'm just trying not to spoil much

Just finished a play through on companions and Stormcloaks side, gonna do another one on brotherhood and thieves side, and maybe imperial. But no matter how many times I replay this game, I will never join the blades, and I don’t think anybody will have a problem with that.

I always kill Astrid at the abandoned cabin and then go and wipe out the jerks at the hideout and loot it. It's so close to Falkreath that you can pick up everything and stumble into town.
I only ever wanted to live in rainswept Falkreath! The game needed a Merchants Guild (with questlines) and more Hamlets, Villages, Wizards Towers, Mead Halls etc etc.

The only thing that makes the Namira cult worth joining is you can take White Eyed Eola and use her as a toss away sacrifice when you do the Boethia questline. No sense of guilt at all.

Bards college..which gives you no ability to sing, dance, tell stories or get plastered in bars. Picking up the flute, drum and lute quests take you to interesting places and give you advancement in skills on a one time basis. What a loss...Like going to a Chef school and then not being allowed to cook.
You get to cook for the emperors body double. Nice hint of Jarrin root in his pottage au magnifique

Quite the opposite for me. I can't stand the dark brotherhood in the game because of the characters. A vampire child and a jester as members? What a joke. I want to the faction to be cool and dark...i hate it when they make evil factions lame or comedic like in this, or fable 2 and 3. Also the dawnstar sanctuary is worse than falkwreath. There is very little if anything good about this faction in my opinion.

Defs agree on Volkihar being number 1. Being a vampire rules in this game haha. Thieves guild is also pretty good as well, even if some quests are a bit thuggish.
Kinda surprised that the college of Winterhold is pretty high on the list. While I do indeed like the quests, the fact that you can get in with a novice based spell as a non mage is pretty stupid. Kinda breaks the immersion a little bit if you're playing a warrior. However, most of the factions are mediocre as you said so I can't fault you on that.
The stormcloaks being racist is a very bad take considering the imperials are working alongside the aldmeri dominion who want to insalve mankind atleast that's how i think the lore goes
I love the companions because you get to turn into a werewolf and you get wuthrad which is one of the best weapons in the game

The Dragonborn really just joins a random guild, becomes the most important person in it, saves the guild/the world, becomes the leader, and then leaves without elaborating
I really only play a few per playthrough. I make builds with certain restrictions and certain mods installed for specific themes. My main pure warrior build is a noble hero who fights for the innocent. My pure mage character is an evil warlock, my assassin character is a vampire temptress, and my main character is a spellsword who does a little of everything.

Everyone is complaining that ulfric and the stormcloaks are racist. But what about the thalmor that outlaw the worship of thalos. And basicly hate every one who aint a thalmor
The imperials are horrible. The stormcloaks are really the only way. They’re the best shot for Skyrim and Tamriel. I don’t see how people actyally think the empire would do anything. Also, everyone in Skyrim is racist, so that’s not really an efficient metric of assessing anything. However, if you really want to go down this road, Ulfric is probably one of the least racist people in the whole of Skyrim. Tullius is infinitely more racist.
Bards college is so bad. Literally happened myself into the cave and found the song. Didn’t know what it was but it couldn’t be dropped. Then one day I stopped in the Bards college and finished it all in a few lines of dialogue haha
